Summary: Lucifer exceeded any expectations you'd had. He'd relentlessly perused you, and gave you the support your ex-husband never had. Now even towards the end, he was still full of surprises, and took every opportunity to show you how much he truly cared.

............................................................

It wasn't very often that you had a day to yourself. With a thirteen-year-old son and a baby do to be born any day now, it didn't leave you with very much as Lucifer liked to call it. Today had been no different, it took both your son and boyfriend to get you to just sit down for a few moments.

"I should check the bag again, make sure, I have everything ready for when the baby comes."

You stood up, moving towards the direction of your bedroom.

"Lucifer, mom's getting up again!" Alex yelled.

You looked at your son in betrayal, he gave you an innocent looking smile.

"Why are you up?"

Lucifer peaked his head out of the kitchen, raising an eyebrow in question.

"I was just making sure, I have everything." You muttered.

He tsked and walked over to you, ushering you back to the couch.

"No, no, you've already went through your little checklist three times." Lucifer shook his head.

"Four actually, she snuck away while you were on the phone." Alex chimed in.

You sent your son a halfhearted glare.

"Whose side are you on?"

"Lucifer's." He said bluntly.

Said devil laughed loudly at that, until you turned your glare to him. He cleared his throat, not wanting to invoke your wrath.

"You my dear, need to be resting, it's not healthy for you to be stressing right now, especially not when your offspring will be born any day now." Lucifer scolded you.

With a defeated sigh you sunk back onto the couch, resting your hands on your swollen belly.

"You're right..."

Lucifer beamed at you, kissing your forehead.

"Of course I am."

You rolled your eyes good naturedly as he walked back into the kitchen. You sat there for a while, trying to relax. It shouldn't have been that hard, but it was, so use to constantly being on the go, just having a day off was stressing you out.

Alex looked up from his phone when you started to stand again. He watched you struggle to stand for a moment before opening his mouth. You grabbed a pillow from the couch, throwing it at him before he could get a word out. He stared at you incredulously, but was smiling nonetheless.

"I'm going to the bathroom you traitor, don't call the devil on me again." You teased.

He raised a hand in surrender and turned his attention back to his phone. You made your way to the bathroom, begging your unborn child to stop kicking your bladder. Everything was fine, until you saw the blood.

Lucifer walked back into the living room, frowning when he didn't see you.

"Where'd your mother disappear to this time?"

"Bathroom, but she's been in there a while." Alex said.

Lucifer nodded and turned to walk down the hall. He knocked lightly on the bathroom door, surprised when it practically flew open. You looked panicked, and his frown deepened.

"I'm bleeding."

Lucifer blinked, processing your words.

"Bleeding? Is that not normal?" He inquired.

You shook your head, biting your lip.

"I mean it can be, but I didn't bleed with Alex, what if something's wrong? What if it's the baby? What if-"

Lucifer grabbed your shoulders, bringing your nervous rambling to a halt.

"Whatever it may be, I'm sure that panicking isn't going to help darling. Let's go to the hospital, we'll have them check you out, but I'm sure everything is fine." Lucifer smiled reassuringly.

You nodded slowly, and he helped you gather your stuff, guiding you out to his car. He helped you into the car, and you turned to Alex.

"Lock the doors, and call me if anything happens."

He waved away your hand, when you tried to fix his hair.

"Mom, I'll be fine." He laughed.

You gave him a small smile in return and waved as Lucifer pulled out of your driveway.

The ride to the hospital had mostly consisted of Lucifer trying to keep you calm. When you had finally arrived you kept such a tight hold of his hand you were afraid you might be hurting him. However, he said nothing about it and simply led you to the nurses station.

You explained what had happened and how far a long you were. The nurse nodded, grabbing a clipboard, walking around the desk to lead you to a room. She handed you a gown, smiling kindly at you.

"The doctor will be in to see you and your husband shortly."

It took you a moment to realize what she had said. However, when you opened your mouth to correct her, to tell her Lucifer wasn't your husband, he spoke first.

"Thank you." He nodded to the nurse.

She walked out of the room and you turned to look at him. Your lips parted to question why he didn't correct her but the words never left your tongue. You shook your head a little and changed into the gown. It wasn't long after that when the Doctor came in. He shook Lucifer's hand, giving him a polite smile.

"Alright, let's take a look, dad is more than welcome to stay in the room for this part of course." The Doctor offered.

You wanted to correct him, explain that Lucifer wasn't the father but yet again the sly devil cut you off.

"With how tightly she's holding my hand I don't think I'm able to leave." Lucifer joked.

You gave him a curious look, making a mental note to ask him about it later. Lucifer talked to you throughout the exam, keeping you calm and distracted throughout it. When the doctor was done he took off his gloves, throwing them in a trashcan.

"It's a little spotting, it can sometimes happen, nothing to worry about, it just means your body is getting ready for labor. However, your blood pressure is a little high, we'd like to keep you overnight to monitor you."

You nodded thanking him as he left the room. For a few moments it was silent, neither of you speaking. The only sound was the steady dripping from your IV.

"Why didn't you say anything?"

Lucifer looked at you curiously, tilting his head confused.

"Beg your pardon?"

"You didn't disagree when they called you my husband or the baby's dad."

He smiled, standing up patting your hand.

"You're thinking too much about it love."

You watched him walk out of the room, after telling you he was going to get you something to eat, a cryptic smile playing on his lips. You chose not to overthink that and instead tried to get some sleep. Already happily dreaming when Lucifer walked back in. He watched you for a couple seconds, before moving your hair away from your eyes. He sat in the chair by the bed, leaning on the bed railing as he watched your chest raise and fall.

"Someday they'll call me your husband, and we won't need to correct them." Lucifer said.

~

It wasn't until late that night that you woke up again, a sharp cramping pain jerking you violently from your sleep. You sat up, inhaling sharply. Your eyes looked around the hospital room, landing on Lucifer, asleep in the chair beside your bed. You shook him a little, waking him from his slumber.

"Y/N? Are you alright darling?"

"My water broke."

"Oh?"

It took him a few minutes and then, his eyes wide.

""

Over the next several hours, well into the early morning you spent screaming and sweating. You shouted curses to the poor nurses trying to assist you and very nearly broke Lucifer's hand. When he tried to talk you through it, tell you to breath, you grabbed his shirt and pulled him down to your eye level.

"If you tell me to breathe one more goddamn time I'm going to start squeezing your neck!" You hissed.

Lucifer stood up straight, swallowing a little, Maze would have been so proud of you right now. After ten long hours of screaming and crying your baby was here.

"It's a boy." The doctor said.

You fell back on the bed exhausted as a cry filled the room. Your breathing was heavy, and you rolled your head to watch the nurse clean your baby. Despite how tired, and heavy your limbs felt you reached your arms out for your baby. Tears fell freely from your eyes as you stared at the tiny bundle in your arms.

"Oh look at him! He's perfect!"

You smiled as you cried, gazing at your baby. Lucifer couldn't help the smile that had appeared on his lips. He leaned over you, looking at your new son.

"You're his mother, he couldn't be anything but absolutely perfect." Lucifer said.

You looked up from your baby at him, your heart skipped a beat when you saw how his eyes shined while he gazed at you. The baby began to fuss and you turned your attention back to him.

"Hello there Freddie." You cooed, holding his tiny little hand.

You let the nurse take him to weigh him and turned back to Lucifer. He was caught off guard when you suddenly pulled him into a hug.

"You didn't have to stay, but thank you, Lucifer you'll never know how much this means to me. And I'm so gross right now covered in sweat, sorry." You laughed.

However, when you tried to pull away he just held you tighter, even giving you a kiss.

"I think you look beautiful, I love you darling." He whispered.

When the nurse brought your baby back over, offering him to Lucifer, he looked almost panicked. Yet, he held your son so delicately and your heart swelled as you watched the scene before you. You placed a hand on Lucifer's arm, catching his attention.

"I love you too."
