Summary: You were new to Lux, a behind the scenes worker, you managed the books and you stayed mostly out of sight. Lucifer had seen you a few times in passing, but hadn't actually said anything to you. The first time he approached you to talk he's meant with an unexpected discovery. While you thought nothing of the very brief exchange with your boss, Lucifer is eager to talk to you in your language.

.............................................................

Lucifer watched you curiously as you moved around Lux, marking various things down on a notepad. You were the new hire, someone the manager had brought in, he was sure he hadn’t met you yet. He sipped his drink, glancing around his empty nightclub. It was far too early in the day to be open, to early for any sort of partying. Lucifer had come to notice, over the last few weeks, that you preferred to get your work done while Lux was closed, when you were mostly alone.

You approached the bar, to check the various bottles that filled the shelves. You gave Lucifer a small smile as you passed him, a gesture he returned. He watched as you counted the bottles, focusing intently on your task. You backed up a little, most likely to get a better look at all the contents behind the bar. You had backed up a little to far, causing an ill placed bottle to fall to the ground not far from you.

Lucifer frowned when you didn’t react, in fact you hadn’t even looked up from your notebook. He set his drink down, standing from his place at the bar.

"Excuse me my dear..."

You didn't respond, didn’t look in his direction. His frown deepened and he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. However, when you began to walk towards the mess of booze and glass on the ground, focus still on the notebook in your head, he reached across the bar quickly grabbing your arm.

"Careful!"

You jumped, startled, stumbling away from him in surprise. Lucifer grew even more confused by your reaction and you started at him confused yourself.

"I apologize for grabbing you so abruptly my dear, but you were about to walk into a mess of glass."

He noticed the way your eyes focused on his lips and the way your eyebrows drew together in concentration. It took you a moment to respond to him, and you turned to look at the mess.

"Oh..."

You turned your gaze back to him, a sheepish smile on your face.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize I knocked something over, I'll clean it up."

Lucifer stared at you silently a moment, and you shifted under his gaze.

"You're deaf?" He asked suddenly.

You took a moment to process what he had asked, you had never been very good at reading lips. It often gave you headaches.

"Yes." You nodded once you had deduced what he’d said.

Lucifer seemed to be in deep in thought for a few quiet minutes and you actually jumped a little when you saw him speak.

"Excuse me."

You frowned a little as he stood, leaving to go to his penthouse. You stood there a moment before shrugging and resuming your work.

~

You saw him many times throughout the week after that. He watched your hands so closely when you would talk with a friend. He'd seem to mumble to himself before disappearing from sight. You'd even seen him carrying various sized books with him up to his penthouse. You never caught the titles though.

Honestly it had all become a little confusing and suspicious.

You thought maybe you'd done something wrong, or maybe he didn't like you much. He hadn’t spoken to you since that night. For a brief moment you'd thought he was bothered by having a deaf employee but you had quickly crushed that insecurity. He'd been so polite to you before.

As fate would have it, you had gotten your answer on Friday night, it was late, or rather early seeing as it was in the a.m. Lux had only just closed you were finishing up inventory now that all the party goers that stumbled off home. There was a light tap on your shoulder and you turned to see Lucifer standing behind you.

"Mr. Morningstar, is everything okay?" You smiled at him.

Lucifer studied you for a moment before finally responding.

Your eyes lit up in both surprise and happiness. He'd signed that so perfectly, and it was almost exciting not to struggle to read his lips. He looked a little nervous, probably wondering if he'd done a particular motion wrong.

"You know sign language!" You laughed.

Lucifer smiled at your joy, noting that you still spoke to him rather than signing yourself. He found that interesting, as if you were subconsciously aware it would be easier than him trying to keep up with your signing.

"

Your smile grew with his apology and you grabbed his hands.

"Lucifer, don't apologize, this is the nicest thing anyone has done for me." You spoke softly.

He smiled and you released his hands.

You watched his hands your eyes widened just a bit. It took a moment for your brain to catch up with your mouth but when it did you smiled at the handsome devil.

"I'm free tomorrow?"

Lucifer returned your smile with one of his own.
