Summary: You were made for him but he didn't want you. And although your heartached, you wanted to see him happy and so you let him go.

............................................................

You never asked for these feelings that tugged at your heart. You never wanted to be made for someone who'd never love you back. Yet even for angels life was unfair, God had made you for Lucifer, to rule beside him hell, to always care about him, even if he didn't love you back.

He loved Chloe, anyone could see that. No matter how much you wanted to, you couldn't bring yourself to stop caring, you didn't blame Chloe either, it wasn't her fault. So, you buried your feelings and settled for being his friend, even if it crushed you a little more each time you saw him with her.

"Why are you doing this to yourself Y/N?"

You were pulled from your thoughts when you heard Maze's voice. You smiled sadly as you watched Lucifer move about the penthouse,  getting ready for his date with Chloe.

"I want him to be happy." You muttered.

"Well what about your happiness? Do you think he's considering that?"

"Not now Maze." You sighed

She shrugged and you watched Lucifer fix the red tie around his neck and frowned a little.

"Lucifer wait!"

He paused looking over at you with a questioning glance. You hurried to his closet, grabbing a black tie, before returning to the living room.

"The black one looks better on you."

"Does it?" He asked.

You nodded and helped him tie it, aware of how Maze watched you sadly. You took a step back, looking at him for a moment.

"Much better." You said forcing a smile.

Lucifer smiled at you and you felt your heart crack just a little more when he kissed your cheek.

"Thank you, darling. What would I do without you?"

"Probably be stuck ruling hell for the rest of eternity." You teased.

Knowing Lucifer was going to have to return to hell eventually, you had talked to Maze and Lucifer about going in his place. At first the two of them had adamantly refused to let you do such a thing. It wasn't long before Maze realized the real reason you were offering to take Lucifer's place.

You ushered Lucifer towards the elevator, keeping that fake and empty smile on your face the entire time.

"You're going to be late."

Lucifer stepped into the elevator, looking back at you with an almost sad expression. It was as if he knew what was going to happen once he left, that you would be gone once those doors closed.

"I'll be fine Lucifer, besides I'll have Maze with me remember, the best demon in hell."

He nodded, but his expression didn't change.

"You will come visit us again won't darling? Or is this goodbye?"

Even though he asked, a part of him already knew the answer to that question, and your smile fell a little.

"Of course I will Luc."

Maze waited until the elevator doors slid shut before she placed a hand on your shoulder.

"You lied, we both know you're not coming back."

A shrug was all you gave unable to will yourself to say anything.

"Ready to go?"

You nodded, unfurled your wings, ignoring the pain that had only grown in your chest.
