Summary: All you really wanted was to spend the day with him, but for whatever reason Lucifer seemed distracted. As the day grew later, and he continued to almost avoid you. When you finally decided to just go home, call it a day, everything finally clicked and you couldn't have been happier...................................................................

You woke up in bed, alone, and a little confused. In place of Lucifer, was a tray of food, with a note neatly placed beside it. It took you a moment to fully wake up, but once you had you reached for the note. Lucifer had written it, you could tell by the elegant writing on the thin sheet of paper.

, ,             You let the note drift softly onto the bed as you sat up, picking up a piece of toast. You mindlessly muched on it as you checked your phone for messages. A few of your friends had wished you a happy birthday, and some had left you a few voicemails wishing the same.

Once you had finished your meal, you slipped out of bed, drifting towards the closet. You skimmed your clothes options for a bit, mind wandering as you picked an outfit. Your phone chimed in the other room and you hastily pulled your shirt over your head as you hurried to check it.

It was Ella, she too wished you a happy birthday, and asked why you hadn't gone with Lucifer to the precinct. At least that answered your question of where he had gone.

~

You arrived at the precinct via taxi, and had greeted Dan as you walked past his desk. Lucifer was standing by Chloe's desk talking on his phone with an annoyed expression on his face.

"That won't do at all, I need it at my penthouse ."

He saw you standing there, and gave you a brief smile before returning to his conversation.

"I don't care if it'll cost me extra, you'll have it there on time, or I'll pay you a visit myself, is that clear?"

Lucifer placed his hand over his phone for a moment.

"Give me just a moment, and we'll go for lunch, I've got a few more calls to make."

He gave your cheek a quick kiss before walking away. You stood there for a moment, watching him go.

"Hi, I guess." You muttered.

Ella had seen you and pulled you into her lab before you could think too much about it.

"So, what plans do you have for your birthday today?" She beamed.

You thought about it a moment before shrugging.

"I think Lucifer and I might go for lunch."

Ella frowned at that, looking like she had been expecting you to say something else.

"That's it but what about-"

She silenced herself almost immediately, as if she suddenly remembered something. You furrowed your eyebrows at her strange behavior.

"Okay?"

"You know, I just remembered, I have so much work to do, like a lot of it. I'll see you tonight." She said nearly shoving you out the door.

"Tonight?" You questioned.

"Or you know, whenever I see you next."

Ella quickly shut the door in your face, and you stared at it a moment.

"What is wrong with everyone today?"

You turned to walk away, glancing over at where you last saw Lucifer. He was still talking on the phone, and you assumed you wouldn't be getting lunch with him any time soon. You turned to walk away, passing Chloe on your way out. She stopped you for a moment.

"Happy birthday Y/N, having a good day so far?"

"Depends on your definition of good."

You left without another word, and she waited until you were out of room before walking over to Lucifer.

"I got the cake for tonight, did you see if Y/N's favorite place delivers?" Chloe asked him.

Lucifer held the phone away from his ear, sighing.

"I'm on hold, awful music really, would you see if Daniel's picked up the decorations yet?"

Chloe nodded and went to find Dan.

~

You had wound up spending the day alone, tired and a little bummed out. You just wanted to curl up on the couch, watch your favorite show, and wait for Lucifer to get home. The penthouse was dark when you stepped out of the elevator.

"Hello?" You called out nervously.

"Surprise!"

You almost screamed as the lights flicked on and confetti poppers went off. All your friends were in the penthouse, wearing party hats and smiling widely. The living room was decorated with streamers and balloons. A happy birthday sign hung over the fireplace and a large cake sat on top of the piano.

"What's all this?"

Lucifer walked forward, placing a party hat on your head with a joyful smile on his face.

"It's a surprise party of course! You didn't think I'd forget your birthday did you?"

You laughed a little, nearly crying at the effort everyone had gone through to make your birthday special.

"Well? Is it awesome or what?" Ella nudged you.

Everyone stared at you, awaiting your reaction eagerly.

"It's amazing!"

They cheered, and you smiled as everyone began to mingle, and take turns giving you hugs. As you watched your friends laugh and enjoy each other's company you felt happy, this was definitely becoming one of your favorite birthdays.

"Have I succeeded in surprising you my dear?"

Lucifer handed you a drink, as he wrapped an arm around your waist. You accepted the offered drink, and rested your head against his shoulder.

"Yes you did."

He seemed proud of himself and you laughed a little, kissing him.

"Thank you Lucifer."

He pulled you closer, smiling in return.

"Anything to see you smile on your special day my love."
