Odette And Dario

It was past midnight. In a room lit by candlelight, Odette was still sitting across from Dario.

“Actually, I also lied about my father. He wasn’t dead. He dumped me and my mother, so I assumed he was dead. I had never seen him, nor did I know what his face looked like. When I asked my mother, she always said that my father was dead since I was in the womb, so I also thought that way. Just like my mother said.”

Dario held his breath when he heard that.

Odette smiled briefly and then continued her story. Her eyes revealed a faint sadness that she kept hiding deep within her heart.

“My mother wouldn’t even tell me anything about him. If I kept asking, she got sad and often scolded me. I always wondered why my mother was like that. Did my father leave us not because of death, but because of something else?”
