Chapter 27

When I woke up, the sun was streaming in the window, but I was still wrapped in Dylan’s arms. It took me a minute to realize why that was strange. He should have left for work hours ago. Long before the sun was this high in the sky. But here he was, still holding me close. I could tell by his breathing he was awake.

I kissed his chest, loving his little shudder, before I cautiously looked up at him. “Morning. Why didn’t you go to work?”

He shrugged one shoulder, and his smile didn’t reach his eyes. “I told Missy I would be late. I’ll have to go in soon, but this, you, are more important.”

“Dylan, I…” but I didn’t know what to say.

“You came to me in the middle of the night, baby. After you said you wanted a night to yourself. I’m not mad or upset about it,” he added when I opened my mouth. “But I’m a bit worried. Did something happen? Are you okay?”
