Chapter 50: Love, Blood, and Fangs

Julia Locke POV:

I had brought my team back down the hill to regroup with Rob and others. Marcus’s team had checked in, and while they had been successful, many of them had suffered injuries. Marcus included.

I was expecting him to be hurt, not to see a sword buried in his side.

Marcus had been rushed to Inquisition field hospital that had been set up in the storage locker, and that’s where Rob and I were now.

We waited for over three hours before the locker opened and the medic who had worked on me stepped out, peeling off a pair of bloody surgical gloves.

“Is Marcus …” I tried to ask, but I trailed off as the medic gave me a pained grimace.

“He’s alive,” the medic told me grimly. “But the injury was too severe. If treatment had been administered immediately then it might have been possible.” They took a deep breath. “There was nothing I could do, I’m afraid. All anyone can do now is keep him comfortable.”
