Chapter 16

By the time I came back out. Relic had already gone. I knew Relic very well. he will hesitate to carry out my order but will do it anyways. I didn't blame him, though. He was right, breaking the bond between mates is a dangerous thing to do especially when it comes to demons. but I have to do it anyway.

In the beginning, demons never had anything to do with mates. we lived our lives freely, barely falling in love. it was strange to see a demon fall in love. Back then demons were ruthless and had no, control, especially the royals, they did the most heartless deeds because they felt nothing but joy in ruthlessness. after all, that is the way, we were designed.

then mating spirits decided that the only way to tame us is to make us feel, feel the most dangerous thing of them all. Love. But this only applies to the royals. since then, whenever a demon lord gets out of control, they bond him with a mate, and he becomes stuck. at first, it is like putting him in a cage but eventually, this mate becomes a part of him, his other half. slowly the mate bones will no longer have an effect, and it becomes uncontrollable love. that is the situation I am in right now.

I lay on the couch, wondering what Bonnie would be up to. I remembered Relic's last message before leaving. he told me that word has already gotten out about my mate. the men already kill two dark spirits seeking her soul and he is suspicious of some humans around her. this made me worry " Is she still getting ready to go see that Edward guy? But why does she have to get all dressed up to go see him? why does he even want to see her? Doesn't he have a company to take care of? where are they meeting away? " thinking out loud

I lay there quietly as a million thoughts kept going through my head. I need a distraction, something to get my mind off her. " should I just return to the underworld? " questioned myself " I haven't heard any news about Asura. I have to find him before he finds her."

Two hours went by. Getting bored, I suddenly got the urge to go see her, see how she is doing and check her surrounding, if it was safe.

With a blink of an eye, I was out of the cabin, out of the woods and on that familiar street. I noticed the clouds gathering in the evening sky. it would rain anything from now. Humans passed by me in a hurry, with no intention of getting caught up in the rain.

I stood there listening, trying to find her voice so I could find her location. I remained like that until " ha, ha, ha. That is insane" I heard her. They were in a restaurant and she was having fun, laughing. This made me frown.

I located the restaurant immediately and kept my eyes on them. I wasn't able to read Cloe's mind which made it difficult to tell what she was thinking but The Edward guy, on the other hand, annoyed the shit out of me. His thoughts filled the air almost suffocating me. bude has already fallen in love. " aa" a gasp escaped my lips as I felt pain at the back of my neck due to the thought of another man dating her. I reach for the back of my neck with my eyes close " I am going to kill that man " I hissed

" excuse me?" I heard the shock in the waitress's voice when she had this while serving my drink. I ignored her with eyes focused on Cleo " En...enjoy sir " she left nervously

" how dare he "

" stop thanking me. I should be the one thanking you" they spoke while standing in front of Cloe's apartment building. Edward had offered to drop her off and now he was taking too long to leave. I really don't like the guy " Thanks to you I was able to get my mind off today's stress. you are like a pain reliever " Cleo smiled at his ridiculous complement

" but are you sure everything would be ok? " she carried a worried tone

" Yeah. don't worry about me. the investigation will only last a few days and I hope they get results, I am also seeking an explanation " he said

" Explanation?" confused

" Yes. I also want to know how a person ended up in our freezer. the psychopath behind it " He carried a very serious tone, which made me rolled eyes. He speaks so confidently like he would truly be able to find me. while Cleo gave an awkward laugh

" Ha, ha" displaying her teeth awkwardly " That is crazy. Really a psychopath " she spoke

" who is crazy enough to do such a thing?" in deep thought

" yeah. I wonder who "She wasn't comfortable with the conversation. probably because she knew who was responsible "The person probably had a good reason " she shrugs

" no reason can justify something that..." he tried to find the word to fit in. " it would have been better to end that poor man's life than put him in the freezer and let him go through such pain. that man is surely going to die "

" Ha..." awkward " We won't know that.... we won't know that for sure. we should wait for an update from the hospital "

" Yeah. let's pray for the best"

I sighed in frustration. already getting frustrated with their conversation. why wasn't he leaving already?

" Yeah.. we should pray for the best "

" and..."

" Yeah. Bonnie " I called out, cutting him off, revealing myself from the dark.

" oooh" She was taken by surprise and the young fellow turn around to look at me " You.....?" surely she wasn't expecting me to be there

" you are back," I said walking towards them, acting clueless. Reaching them. I put my arm around her shoulders, taking both of them by surprise " Who is he?"

"What...what are you doing here? " confusion in her eyes. She stared up at me

" what do you mean, I came to see you. " smiled brightly

" I thought you said you had something to do " she reminded, biting the edge of her lips in a low tone

" Well I finished on time," I said back in a low tone as well

" Ammmmm..." Edward interrupted, looking confused " Who...?"

" Oh.... this is my friend.... Vicnan " Cleo introduced " Vicnan meet my friend Edward "

" Hi " offering his hand for a handshake and I took it gladly with eyes locked on his " Vicnan....that is an unusual name " Neither of us took our hand away " Where are you from? "

" A place where your kind can never find, " I said

" Ha... " gave a short offended laugh " What is that supposed to mean?"

" it has a very clear meaning and you know it "

" Vicnan!!" Cleo scold

" What? " my eyes fell on her " Am I not telling the truth?" look back at Edward whose eyes were now on my arm which rested around Cleo's shoulder

" I see you two are very close " He locked his eyes with mine once again with a frown

" We have a very long history together, one that you will never believe" I smiled knowing I angered him more. he tighten his grip and I raised an eyebrow that the child before me. was he trying to put me in pain or what. " Ha " I have a short laugh, wondering when children of this generation became this bold. dose he realize that he was wasting his energy on me, I felt nothing. my smile switched into something much eviler. this dude is playing a losing game. I squeeze his hand a little, and immediately I heard a bone shift and his face grew red in pain, he remained calm, trying to look cool but only I knew all the thoughts flooding in his head, begging for me to let go. my smile grew brighter, enjoying his cry. I was just about to add a little more strength to my grip, Cleo interrupted

" for goodness sake, stop this " she scolds, releasing both hands. instantly Edward sighed in relief, taking his hand behind. I could hear the sound of his hand crumbling and this filled me with joy

"Are you alright, Edward? "

" Yeah am fine. why won't I be?" trying to sound cool

" Yeah you are " I mocked "You should take your leave now. it's about to rain " giving him an excuse to leave and he took it immediately

" Yeah. right. I will take my leave now. see you again Cleopatra " he said. with that, he got into the car and drove off while I watched silently until the car was out of sight

" he is cute " I mocked while eyes landed on Cleo only to be met with death stares " wh....what is it " She reached for my arm around her and pushed it away. without a word she walked away into the apartment building, leaving me like a child who was about to get scolded
