Long Legend Story / Part 1 / Legends Way

Arthur, a young boy, dreams of becoming a legend in his own right. He dreams of travel, adventure and exciting battles, but he's also full of clichés: he thinks that to be a legend is to fall into one's lap, so convinced of a great destiny, he spends his youth training alone, waiting for a fateful event. Unsuccessful, he decides to become a soldier in order to advance as quickly as possible, but soon realizes he's powerless.

Chapter 5 : Gilbert ?!

The two of them find themselves out of sight, and the man in the mask removes it.

-Glad to see you're okay.

-W-WHAT?!

The man in the mask is....

-G-GILBERT!

-Hi, Arthur.

-What are you doing here?

-I work for the intelligence service.

-WHAT??? Since when???

Gilbert doesn't want to tell him he could have taken a cart to get here, so he dodges the question and bows.

-THANKSGIVING!

Arthur doesn't understand why Gilbert apologizes, so he straightens up.

-I never told you, but I've mastered vision magic

One of his eyes turns purple, and Arthur is shocked to see Gilbert use the magic.

-It lets me know the true intentions of the people I'm looking at.

Gilbert takes a breath before speaking.

-When we were younger, I was very judgmental about your goals... But every time I'd take a dig at your dream, I'd read your mind and see the same thing.

Arthur's body was screaming "I WANT TO BECOME A LEGEND".

-I'm truly sorry I doubted you so many times.

Arthur hasn't spoken since the beginning, but he's breaking his silence.

-Let me put one on for you.

-I- .... Okay.

Arthur punches Gilbert in the face.

"It's deserved..."

-WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME YOU MASTERED MAGIC??!

-Huh??

Gilbert thought Arthur wanted to hit him because he was disappointed with Gilbert's behavior.

-BUT MEC! MAGIC IS SO COOL! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT IT? RAAAAH!

Arthur looks really disgusted, as if he's missed a decisive point in an important match, after raging enough at his friend Arthur adds:

-You know, if my will had weakened after your jabs... I wouldn't deserve to become a legend.

Gilbert laughs as Arthur helps him to his feet.

-You really haven't changed...

He takes one last discreet look at Arthur's bottom, his will to become a legend even stronger than before, and smiles.

Transition

The two friends seem to have spent the day together.

-So, what's your job here?

-I'm one of Midania's "eyes", watching the locals and foreigners to prevent crime and terrorism.

-Wow, that's quite a job.

-It's nothing compared to what you want to do.

They walk side by side, but Gilbert speeds up to stand in front of Arthur, holding out his hand.

-I'm sorry I didn't support you earlier, let me make it up to you.

Arthur looks at Gilbert's hand and thinks back to the man in prison who told him he was lucky. He smiles and shakes Gilbert's hand, then remembers that he lost his fight.

-Unfortunately, I'm going to have to find another way.

-Why do you think that is?

-Well, I lost the fight.

-Ah, that doesn't change anything.

-... What?

-The country needs as many people as possible so we accept everyone, the fight's just to classify you. It's just to put a bit of pressure on, haha.

-It means I still have a chance to shine!

Transition.

It's the next day, and there are signs in front of the training area, each with a group allocation.

Gilbert goes with Arthur to look for his name among the sheets. Arthur can't find it, but Gilbert suddenly laughs.

Arthur doesn't feel it.

-Pff- t-tu es dans le groupe des pff- Poussin....

He refrains from laughing, Arthur is dejected.

The soldiers are separated into 3 groups:

-Chicks: This contains new recruits and soldiers with very little experience, most of whom end up in logistics, and being in this group often means shame.

-Orcs: Soldiers of a higher level, they are the most common and the most numerous.

-Dragons: The most experienced soldiers in the kingdom, 1 needs 100 of the orcs.

Gilbert walks away laughing.

-Pff- B-Good luck Pff-

Arthur is ashamed at first, then finally an idea pops into his head.

"But wait... It's perfect for my legend! A young peasant who starts at the bottom and ends up as the greatest warrior... IT'S PERFECT!"

Transition

In the evening, he finds himself at the Patronne's restaurant, where the whole restaurant is celebrating his membership.

-So which group are you in?

Arthur replies proudly.

-THE CHICKS!

The boss holds back her laughter and replies with a smile that spreads across her face.

-Aaah, it's good! I'm so proud of you.

The employee still standing next to the boss intervenes.

-BAHAHAHA! THE CHICKS!!!

She's completely drunk.

-Ignores her Arthur.

-Yes, don't worry-

A dish is spilled on her head.

-Oopsi hihihi.

-Let me help you clean up! Deliah! Don't give me that crap!

-What?! What?! A legend is going to waste food?!

"Oh no," says the boss. "She knows exactly how to activate the legend mode.

-YOU'RE RIGHT! ORAAAAAAAH!!!

He starts eating the food on top of him, Deliah continues to laugh in his face, the boss facepalms again, wondering what she's done to be surrounded by people like this.

Transition

Arthur is transferred to the chick barracks, there are about a hundred of them, and a half-long-haired instructor stands in front of them.

-Well, you've passed the first test, now let's see what we can do with you.

Arthur has been confident since Gilbert told him that everyone was taken.

-We're going to do some physical and written tests, depending on your results you can end up in logistics.

"HEIN??" Arthur is suddenly stressed, he didn't know he could end up in logistics.

The tests go off without a hitch.

Transition

-Perfect, you've done well.

The instructor holds up Arthur's sheet, another instructor asks:

-You're spending a lot of time on this sheet.

He doesn't react.

-Is this the motivations sheet?

He leans over to look at the sheet, and it says, "Why do you want to be in the army?"

It says in large letters "BECOME A LEGEND" with some drawings around it.

-I-

-Shhh.

-I've got it.

He sighs and puts the card away.

So the soldiers whose names I'm going to say will have to undergo muscle-strengthening training.

Arthur's name isn't mentioned.

-The next ones will be in logistics

.

The names scroll by, Arthur stressing with each one, but in the end, his name is not mentioned.

He sighs with relief.

-At last, the last of you will undergo combat training.

Arthur is pleased. "YES!" As he explodes with inner joy, a hand comes to rest on his shoulder.

-Good to see you there, legend.

Arthur turns around, it's the big guy from the recruitment phase.

-Wasn't it you who shouted that he wanted to become a legend during training? I burst out laughing when you got arrested.

-That was me!

Arthur shows off.

-Would you like to train with me?

-Hmmm... Okay!

The big fellow holds out his hand.

-I'm Günther, pleased to meet you.

-Arthur, future legend.

-Hahaha! I can tell you're a funny guy.

The instructor watches Günther and Arthur prepare for battle.

-Are you really going to let them fight?

-Why not?

-But that Günther...

Günther draws his huge blade.

-Are you ready?

-COME ON!

A red aura forms around Günther's blade, and in an instant he's moving in front of Arthur, the ground shattering at his feet from the speed.

Arthur tries to parry, but is thrown several meters away, his blade cut cleanly in two.

The instructor resumes the dialogue.

-I knew it was going to end like this... This Günther should be with the orcs at the base.

-Maybe it'll cool our legend, even if using perception was perhaps a bit exaggerated.

Günther sheathes his blade.

-A legend. For that you need a minimum of strength. Better go back to the country.

Günther leaves Arthur on the ground, once again witnessing his own powerlessness.

The day comes to an end.

-Well, from now on, you're all going to live here, understand one another.

The soldiers respond in unison, "GLORY TO MIDANIA!

They all take a bed to put their things on, Arthur's face is grim, he doesn't say a word.

They all sit down at the table and start to eat, Günther squeezes himself a few times, looks in all directions but doesn't see Arthur.

"Where's the fallen legend? He must have fled."

Arthur is outside, practicing his kicking.

Transition

Much to Günther's surprise, Arthur is the first one up to train, and Günther looks annoyed.

"Didn't he realize he had no talent? Tsss."
