Introduction

"It was happening again, as if someone had cut off my oxygen suppy. I could not breathe anymore. The feeling of being looked down and laughed at by everyone as if I was not a person but.....but the dirt beneath their shoes as if I was some pest who was trying to behave like a peacock.....i was suffocating !".

In a huge beautifully lit ballroom, filed with expensively dressed people, people who were elite even among the elites, the finest members of the Chinese high society, everyone was surrounding a lady who was crouched on the ground. Her face was covered by her long golden hair and her knees where bleeding. There was glass shattered all around her and she herself appeared to be drenched in some kind of a strange red drink. Surely, she was hurt but there was no sound of sobbing or even slight whimpers of pain and surprisingly, not one person amongst the extremely esteemed guests gathered in the ballroom went forward to help the pitiful looking girl. Instead there was varying expression on the faces of the gathered guests, ranging from amusement to open glee to such pity and so much sympathy, but still not one person moved forward. The soulful melody playing in the background had stopped and only very light murmurs and whispers could be heard through the ballroom though they were very distinct. "What else did she think would happen when she came here" , "Poor little girl, happens to her always, she should be as use to it by now as we are", "ohhhh I can't wait to go home and tell my parents about how cool miss Shen was today…..hmmm this slut deserves this", the entire ballroom was filled with such murmurs when suddenly a clear and aggressive voice could be heard, " Sister Mo li, I don't know how my hand slipped and how I suddenly lost my balance and pushed you. I hope you will be generous enough to let this incident pass." While this was being said everyone could see, there was not a speckle of remorse on Miss Shen Ruxi's face. There were no words like "sorry" or "apology" actually uttered by her and the majority of them thought , why should she appologis after all born in one of the more prestigious families of the country, Shen Ruxi could do little wrong in their eyes and especially when it came to this specific lady named Mo Li who was at that moment was still crouched on the ground. Who did not dislike her? After all, this lady was married into the most powerful family of the country and that to, to the dynamic and unattainable young master Mu Feng. Three years ago, the entire nation as was hugely taken aback by shock when the Mu Family released a public statement , stating that this Mo Li was now the young madam of the Mu family, obviously no wedding or celebration was held but that day thousands of hearts were broken and one being obviously that of Miss Shen who never made her love for the young master Mu a secret and if rumors were to be believed then she was also dating him at that point. But, yes many young ladies had felt as if nothing worse could ever happen. What right did Mo Li have to be married to a man who was the most powerful young master of their country, a man who was considered to be as handsome as the Greek gods, who was tauted to be exceptionally smart and knew how to mint money in loads. He had a pedigree and aura which would put kings to shame, and such an outstanding creature was married to a girl who had not one single reedeming quality. Though all information about her had been hidden by the Mu family everyone knew that she was adopted by the Mo's when she was 7 years old. The Mo family was well off but almost nothing in comparison to anyone gathered in this ballroom tonight. Plus she looked so weird every time she was seen in public. She had no sense of style, wore large baggy clothes obviously they thought, to cover her weight, had her hair always tied in a neat braid and wore huge and ugly black spectacles plus she had so much makeup on her all the time that sometimes it was unbearable for a person to look at her and to top it all she had no personality or self respect at all. She was humiliated and insulted, pushed and shoved at all public gatherings by so many socialites especially Miss Shen but she neither stood up for herself ever, nor stopped appearing at these gatherings ever. Thus, people become more and more daring every time and started treating her even worse. Her humiliation was a source of amusement and laughter in many households across the Chinese high society. This was also the first time when someone had acted against a member of the mighty Mu family and was not ruined overnight or thrown to their deaths, first time when no member of the notoriously tight knit mighty Mu clan came forward to defend one of theirs. This gave the ones who were trying to curry favor with the Mu's which was almost everyone more incentive to humiliate her as they believed that the Mu's had forsaken her . Obviously things were becoming worse for this lady in distress.

Like always people assumed today would be no different, they knew what would happen, Mo Li would keep her head bowed, she was so pathetic that she would not even look at Miss shen, she would just say that it was her fault instead and then apologies to Miss Shen and leave the hall just like that. So why was she not getting up and getting on with this they wondered? They really wanted to get back to socializing and dancing now that their quota of entertainment extraction from her was complete for today. Suddenly, all murmurs and all thoughts seized when, the lady crouched on the ground raised her head. People were frozen on their spots and then she uttered the unthinkable word – "Enough"....
