Just a Small Break

They started walking to Hogwarts. Side by side. Holding hands until the entrance. They sat down and started eating. Suddenly, an owl came and landed on the table. It was James' owl. Remus took the letter from the owl and gave her some bread. He opened the letter.

Meet me in our dorms at eight o'clock. Both of you.

"He wants us to meet him in our dorms at eight." He said. "Ok, then. Do you think that he changed his mind?" "I hope so." They continued eating until they heard Dumbledore saying that it was time for their classes to begin.

They first had two hours of the class that Remus hated the most. Flying lessons. Sirius had really good grades at this class but he didn't enjoy it much because they had flying limits. He wanted to fly free. Sirius and James played as Chasers for the Gryffindor team, so they were both flying perfectly. But this time was different because James was flying alone, separated from the others.

Next, they had potions with the Slytherins and Muggle studies with the Hufflepuffs. Two completely boring classes for Sirius. Remus, as always, was paying attention, so he could explain the homework to Sirius. After their classes, they ate and tried to finish their homework as soon as possible. It was 7:30 PM when they finished.

"Let's go upstairs. We can wait for him a bit." Remus suggested. "Yeah, ok" Sirius replied. They arrived at their dorms and sat at Sirius' bed. "Don't worry. Everything is gonna be fine." Remus said and hugged Sirius, noticing how anxious he was. "I have a really bad feeling, Remus." Sirius whispered and hugged Remus tighter. After ten minutes of silence, the door opened and James entered. Sirius pulled away from Remus, nervously and James sat to his bed, facing them.

"Listen, I called you here so we can talk calmly, so please don't mess things up." He said calmly. "Did you change your mind?" Sirius asked, with no expression on his face. "It's not that easy, Sirius. Please listen to what I have to say and-" "Well, if you didn't, then there's no reason for us to stay here!" Sirius tried to stay calm and stood up ready to leave. Remus grabbed his wrist and pulled him back. "Let him talk." He said and looked into his eyes. He saw pain that only he could recognize. "Hey, I know how you feel, ok? Just stay calm and listen to him. Maybe he will change his mind. Stay here, please, ok? Do it for me." He whispered, so only Sirius could hear him. Sirius sat down and turned to talk to James.

"What's your problem, James? Why aren't you able to understand that I am finally happy? Why do you have to ruin all this?!" He shouted. "It's not that easy, ok? You're not the only one who suffers! I'm doing all this cause I'm scared that I'm gonna lose you! Think about it! What if you break up and you never gonna talk again?! Or what if you will be always together and forget about me?!" He yelled. "James, we would never do that! We would never leave you! But you are causing problems in our relationship if you're acting so selfishly!" "Remus said. "Oh, you think that I am selfish?! You heard me! I'm just scared! And even if you actually are going to keep our friendship the same, it's too weird for me to think that you have kissed, made out, or even had sex!" "We didn't have sex!" Remus tried not to yell. "We all know that you will, sooner or later!" "Of course we will! Don't you want to do it with Lily, one day?!" Sirius shouted angrily. "Can you stop screaming like this?!" Remus said. "It's not the same!" "Yes, it is! You're the one who is not able to understand, James!" "It's not that easy, Sirius! You know what? I'm leaving! I need some more time to think. I'll let you know if I change my mind." James said and with those words, he stormed off.

Remus tried to get closer to Sirius. "Hey. Babe, don't worry. He will change his mind. I know it. It won't take him more than a week." He whispered and hugged him. "I really want to believe you, Remus, but what if-" "Hey! No negative thoughts! Everything is gonna be fine!" "You also said that the last two times." "I know; I'm just trying to stay positive."

Ten minutes of silence passed and Sirius talked. "Remus, can you do me a favor?" "I'll do anything to make you happy. What is it?" he asked. "Please, don't get mad." "Is it that bad?!" "Well, it is, a bit." "Ok, I'll try to stay calm." "C-could we... take a break?" "What?! What do you mean by that?!" "Don't worry. I'm not asking you to break up. I just need some time alone. No more than two days." "Why are you depending so much on James' reaction?!" "I'm not!" "Yes you are! He will change his mind and everything is going back to normal! But you still want "a break"?!" "Yes, but that doesn't mean that I don't love you! You know this right?" "I hope so!" Remus yelled and ran to his bed. He closed the curtains and laid down.

"Hey! What was that?!" Sirius asked in a shock! Remus didn't answer. "Remus, I'm talking to you!" He said and walked towards Remus' bed and opened the curtains. "Leave me the fuck alone!" Remus yelled at the top of his lungs and quickly closed the curtains, laid back again and started crying quietly.
