Shocked at Dubois’s forthrightness, but thrilled by his words, Joe stood and fetched his boots.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to be so crude,” Dubois said, touching his shoulder. He pinched Joe’s ear. “My, my, you’re blushing, Joseph Vega.”
“All right, Dubois, you’re coming with me.”
Joe turned to see Crawford and another guard, the young Frenchman with the smooth cheeks, standing outside their cell. “Come on.’’
