Yun Bei Fen looked at his Master for help who rolled his eyes in return.
This was what happened if you only ever paid attention to one person in the sect! You can't even remember the head disciples of the other Elders. If this was the disciple of somebody else, I would look down on them!
Well, since this was his cute little disciple he naturally couldn't stand back and watch him humiliate himself. He stepped forward to remind the brat in front of them that he was still there too. "Yang Wu Huang, how nice of you to come over and offer Fen'er some advice."
"Ah, Elder Baili." Yang Wu Huang hurriedly cupped his fists. "This one came over to greet you and your disciple. I heard that junior martial brother Yun was in closed-door cultivation for a long time. He has probably attained the next level. If there is anything I can help with, please let me know."
"Sure, sure." Baili Chao wasn't impressed. Helping and what not. Hadn't this guy just flown over as a bee would to a pretty flower? He obviously just coveted his disciple's good looks!
Yang Wu Huang didn't seem to notice the Elder's bad attitude. He continued to smile and turned back to Yun Bei Fen. "Junior martial brother Yun might not know but I have formed my core not long ago. So in case you don't understand something, you can always ask me. There are probably a lot of things I can teach you."
"Thank you, senior martial brother Yang."
"Mn, no need to thank me. I'm glad that I'm able to help you."
Baili Chao frowned. Why was this guy still looking at his little disciple like that? Hmph. What a pervert! But no wonder. He had always known that that Elder Zuo wasn't anything good. Of course, such a Master would raise such a disciple. Unlike he and his Fen'er.
Yun Bei Fen was indeed quite well behaved right now. He nodded and continued to smile at Yang Wu Huang. His gaze was already roving about though. Was there no way to send this senior martial brother away? He wanted to see senior martial brother Mei again!
He didn't find a good way to make Yang Wu Huang leave but he didn't have to worry about the conversation with him any longer. Sect Master Zhang finally stepped into the room with two of the Elders of their sect.
With a flourish of his white robes, he stopped in front of the disciples while the Elders stepped back. His gaze touched upon all the disciples and stopped on Mei Chao Bing's and Yun Bei Fen's figures for a moment before returning to the center of the room.
Baili Chao narrowed his eyes. He had long known that something was up but this reminded him of the trouble that might be in his disciple's future once again. He'd have to go and talk to Sect Master Zhang before Yun Bei Fen went on that mission. He at least wanted to know what exactly was up.
Zhang Guan Yu cleared his throat and the disciples quieted down. "Your Masters and the Elders probably told you the gist of what this is about already. We were notified that there is increased activity in the border region between the human and the demon realm. That was always the place where most of the demonic sects gathered and it is the place where the headquarters of the Wu Yun Sect are hidden. Up until now, we weren't able to determine what exactly their plans are but they have currently started to invade our lands so it is inevitable that we must drive them back to where they came from."
The disciples looked up at him with a fire burning in their eyes. They obviously wanted to go and exterminate those demonic cultivators immediately. Only three of them reacted differently.
Mei Chao Bing continued to lean against the wall and nothing seemed to change in his expression as if this had nothing to do with him. In fact, it seemed as if he was blankly staring ahead and didn't listen at all. Only Sect Master Zhang could see that he was actually looking toward the area near the gate and that there was some displeasure in his gaze.
One didn't need to think too deeply to understand just who he was looking at. Yun Bei Fen tiptoed to get a clear look at him and his expression screamed the word worry. He just couldn't calm down. The Wu Yun Sect, wasn't that the terrible sect that Mei Chao Bing's Master had gone to? Then wouldn't that mean that he might need to face his Master if he took part in this mission?! How could the Sect Master do this to him?
Yun Bei Fen's worried expression was observed by Yang Wu Huang who still stood next to him. He examined Yun Bei Fen with a contemplative look on his face before he followed his gaze to where Mei Chao Bing stood. His eyes narrowed. That senior martial brother Mei … How come Yun Bei Fen paid that much attention to him? Wasn't he just the disciple of a traitor? Who knew if he wasn't providing the Wu Yun Sect with information about them himself? The Sect Master should have kicked him out long ago.
The gazes of the two men met and sparks seemed to fly. They had entered the Teng Yong Sect at almost the same time and had also been taken in by their Masters at about the same time. Whenever something happened in the Teng Yong Sect, whether it was a mission, a mock exam or a gathering to compete with the disciples of other sects, they would always pitch their everything against each other.
Yang Wu Huang requited Mei Chao Bing's gaze for a while. Finally, his lips curved up into a mocking smile. He turned back to Yun Bei Fen and gently took his hand. "Junior martial brother Yun, there's no need to worry. We'll surely be arranged in groups for this mission. I'll talk to my Master so we can be in the same group. I promise I'll protect you."
Yun Bei Fen blinked. Groups? Did this mean … He turned to look at Baili Chao, blinking at him intently.
His Master's brow twitched. This brat! Could he concentrate on what the Sect Master was saying for a change?! Well, in the end, he still nodded.
Yes, of course, he could be arranged into the same group as Mei Chao Bing …
Btw guys, I've started a slightly silly and cute prequel to RMN that will take a closer look at Yun Bei Fen's early years in the Teng Yong Sect. It's called "A Little Bunny Looking at the Moon" and you can find it on my website, Tapas, Wattpad, and Scribble Hub. (I probably won't be uploading this to webnovel because of several reasons that I can't detail here because of the 500 character limit QAQ)
