Chapter 5: World and Magic

Magic has countless definitions but one thing for sure is that magic can create a phenomenon that can either harm or protect you. In venturing into the world of magic, the mana/magical power will always be there throughout your adventure in magic.

Always remember that Mana is the fuel to create magic. No mana, No magic.

If you want to learn magic, one must understand the concept of mana/magical power. Mana is everywhere, it flows inside you like a river of blood. It is in the air and the objects like an atom and molecules. Mana has no define shape and color but one thing is forsure and that is mana is the root and foundation to create magic.

But...what is Magic?

It is the power of influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces. Magic had been achieved by great mystics from ancient times; whether miracles were brought forth by 'Gods', demonic power of 'Devils or else original theories on the supernatural phenomenon, they were all things that could be reproduced through formulas. All phenomena have fixed laws, which can be measured, calculated, and their manifestation derived through 'magic'

The world our protagonist reincarnated to was a world of swords and magic. It is the planet called Nerissa in the galaxy of Campeius with countless monsters and races that ranges from weak to strong. Races that have animal features and races that are considered as lore and just a fantasy in the planet Earth in their 8th Reincarnation.

In the world of Nerissa, there is a beast and a monster that is common in the Virtual Reality in the RPG's games on the planet Earth. There is Slime, Goblin, Orcs, Ogre, Wolf, etc.

As you all may or may not guess. The monsters have what they call a 'core'. The core of the monster is the most important part of the monster as it was used as the substitute for electricity and the core is also used to make magic tools. Anyone is not wrong if they proclaim that technology revolves around the core in the planet Nerissa. You can sell the core at the adventures guild, merchant, or commercial guild. This world doesn't know the concept of electricity and thus remains an undeveloped world and looks like a medieval Europe because of their limited knowledge, they can only create limited technology. For Example, they have what they call an Airship but they don't have an oven or stove.

In a library on the second floor were two little kids with serene expressions as they read the complex books, there are towering books beside them and some were scattered on the floor.

"I got the basics idea down" Riley mutter to herself. She put down the book she was reading and was about to ask Wylie to try out their magic

— Riley's POV —

[ Kerianna acquired a Skill: Knowledge Absorption ]

Hmm? Me? New skill? Let's see what it does.

[ Knowledge Absorption - A passive skill that allows you to comprehend and understand anything in just one read/skim ]

I was just reading a book like I usually do in my past time but I already got a new skill?! Well, I'm not gonna complain if it can help me survive in this world.

"Wy, let's try out our skills and magic!!"

"Sure, Let's!"

The twins went downstairs and goes outside. Now, that they are outside. They notice that their house was placed in the elevated land at the edge of the escarpment. It looks like a cliff but it is not too high. They estimated that it was about 9-10 meters. There are wooden stairs that lead to the rundown wooden house. If you go to the edge of what looks like a cliff, you will get a view of nature, it was a forest.

It was abundant with nature with trees that varied sizes, some were small and thick while others is tall and thin. Mushrooms, wild plants, grass, and herbs grow. Moss and vines clutch at the old tree and rock. The beast and monsters' howl and growl can be faintly heard as they mix with the hymn of the bird.

As they go to the back of the house, the open field greenery grass came into view. The untrimmed grass was about 4-5 inches long and it swayed gently as the breeze blows.

"The grass is long, we need to trim it if we want to make this place our training ground," Riley said to Wylie

"Then, leave it to me. I have a skill that can help" Wylie said

Riley didn't say anything and back off a little so that Wylie can do the work.

"[ Wind Blade ]" Wylie said while holding out his hand and move it in a horizontal slashing motion. Two Wind Blades came out of his hand and trim all the grass in front of him with just one slashing motion. Normally, it would take them about 5 minutes to clear the field even with magic due to how large it is but this feat is made possible because of the [Winds Grace] but they didn't know that yet and thought that it was normal.

[ Kaedence acquired Wind Skill: Wind Blade ]

A robotic voice resounded at the head of the twins and at the same time, a plate appeared in their vision that said [ Kaedence acquired Wind Skill: Wind Blade ] just like when Riley acquired the skill Knowledge Absorption. It stayed there for 10 seconds before it completely dismiss.

"Is gaining a skill really this easy? It's a walk in a park!" Riley cant help but retort when she saw that Wylie gained another skill

"I can't argue with that"

"But, if that is the case then that means the beings in this world are strong!! Maybe stronger than I was in my 12th life! Especially, if they cultivated their skills since they come to this world!" Riley voice her opinions and deductions that is far from the truth. They don't know that it is just them who have abnormal progress in gaining skills.

Wylie thought about what Riley said and nodded at the possibility. Therefore, both of them silently agreed to become stronger and cultivate their existing skills and train their bodies to break through limits.

On that day, Riley and Wylie practice for one hour before Wylie decided to make a temporary weapon using creation magic. Riley and Wylie were refining and learning how to circulate their mana and they were also trying some spells that they read in the book. While doing so... their stomachs grumbled again causing them to gain another skill.

''What is this skill?!'' The twins thought simultaneously

[ Hunger Endurance - This ability allows the user to go on without feeling hunger for 3 days without food or water ]

''Isn't this far too convenient?" the twin mutter in unison.

It is funny that ever since they become twins, they become even more in sync than they originally were.

Nevertheless, they still continued what they originally planned, even if they don't feel the hunger that doesn't mean that it is okay to end your day without eating anything.

If they don't eat anything, their bodies will not get enough nutrients and may result in getting sick or their bodies will become weak.
