Chapter 10: Riley’s Second Day

In a dangerous forest was a rundown house that looks abandoned. In that house was a shabby-looking bedroom with twin beds. The sun hasn't fully risen yet and an adorable little girl and boy can be seen sleeping peacefully.

— Riley's POV —

A sound of an alarm resounded in my head causing me to stir awake. It was the alarm that I set up yesterday after we talk about our obligations and roles in the house.

Yesterday, Wylie and I agreed that I will take care of the hunting, and cooking while he will take care of repairing the house. Wylie said that he will start repairing the house today. The house is probably getting on the nerves of this neat freak.

I rub my eyes to keep myself awake. The soft morning glow seeps through the window of the house highlighting my features. It is already 7:00 and I need to prepare breakfast. I look towards Wylie whose still asleep. I already have the basic tools and equipment needed. I ask Wylie to make that yesterday. He also makes a gas stove that will light using mana.

While I was making a light breakfast. I felt someone's presence, I didn't need to look since it is probably Wylie. I heard him yawn, and when I look at him. He is rubbing his eyes while still in his pajama. Ohh, yeah, I forgot to mention it but Wylie made a pajama for us yesterday.

We ate breakfast in peace and talk about our plan for the day. True to his words, Wylie plan to repair and renovate the house while I will go hunting.

In a forest where dangerous monsters lurk was a little girl that looks fragile. The girl has a dark hair that looks like night that flows down freely into her back and clear blue eyes that have a mix of amethyst highlights that will hypnotize anyone who will look into it. The girl had a bored look on her adorable face as she take down one monster after another.

The girl slashes the orc in half in inhumane speed and strength. This is the same type of orc as yesterday but she manage to defeat it without breaking a sweat. In fact, She defeat it like it was an ant. It is due to her newly acquired skill.

A few hours earlier...

I am now inside the forest. Although I am not far from where our house is located, monsters and beasts attack me as they thought I was a defenseless human little girl. I manage to defeat all of them so far because of my increase in strength, my natural reflexive and agile body and fast reaction speed.

I encounter a black panther, Devil Red Rabbit, Elite Goblins, Ogre, Orcs, Silver Wolf, and Lightning Bird

"They are weak"

I can't help but mutter under my breath. The commendable opponent that I face so far is only that Lightning Bird but rather than commendable. I think it's better to say that it is a troublesome opponent.

Lightning Bird is a black and white bird, the size of a person, that can summon thunder and lightning with its wings and talons. It is said to have an insatiable appetite for blood. It is an aerial-type beast that has a lightning element. It is fast and quick. It can lunch itself into the ground like a rocket and regain flight and control in a matter of a second.

After the fight with the Lightning Bird, I rest for a bit and intentionally leak my mana and bloodlust out to intimidate the surrounding beast. I use my mana and bloodlust to drive away from the beast or monsters nearby so they won't disturb my rest.

In my fight with the lighting bird. I realize I am far too weak! I got a scratch from that bird which frustrates me but it is worth it because the meat is considered a luxury.

Here I am in the woods sitting in a lotus position and wondering if there is a use in mana aside from conjuring elemental magics. I remember my theory during the fight with an orc. I could try and use my mana to strengthen my physical abilities like how Qi strengthens them.

Mana and Qi are different but similar at the same time. They could produce extraordinary phenomena that could help mortals ascend a higher realm.

'Maybe I could try using mana as I use Qi'

With that thought in mind, Riley circulates her mana throughout her body. She wants to strengthen her defense. She keep circulating and refining her skin, muscles, and cells until she heard a notification.

[Kerianna acquired a Passive Skill: Iron Body]

'Ohh? What's this?'

Before she could she could check what is her new skill was all about. Another notification rang in her head.

[Kaedence acquired a Passive Skill: Mana Sense]

She brushes it off and focuses on her new skill.

'First Stage? It means I can still improve this?'

「Yes, Kerianna unlock a growing skill. A rare skill that can still modify and improve. Keep refining your organs, bones, cells, muscles, tissue, and skin using mana until you will have an invincible body」

'Ehh? Seriously?! Won't I be different from immortal?! I can still age though but I'm sure there is a potion that can help me with that but I won't drink it right now. I don't want to stay in a body of a 10-year-old'

I continue to keep refining my body for a few more minutes then continue my hunting. I stop my mana leakage and withdraw my bloodlust. The beast that acts on instinct throws itself at me.

I continue hunting with my new skill. I even purposely give a Shadow Panther an opening to test my new skill. I know it's dumb but can you blame me? I can't help my curiosity

As I was walk around, I came across a huge beast resting in a swamp. It is a half-bird and half-snake. Yes, it is a serpent-type monster called the Basilisk.

I was going to leave it alone but it notice my presence. It spits a venomous acid towards my direction causing the tree that I used as a shield to melt like nothing.

The basilisk is said to be the king of serpents, and its name means "little king". It is said to have the power to kill a person with a single glare, making it one of the most feared and deadly creatures of the mythological world. They are said to be extremely hostile towards humans, and their venom is so toxic that it can kill a man from a meter's distance. In one story, the venom of the basilisk traveled up the spear of the warrior who stabbed it and killed not only the rider but his horse as well!

I prepare my escape but the gaze of the Basilisk on me made me tremble a little.

'Ugh, Am I that weak that this Basilisk made me tremble? I can even kill a Dragon in my past life without difficulty but this...ugh, focus on your opponent!!'

If it was an ordinary person, they would have been lay dead on the ground by now with just one look from this Basilisk. If it was B-Rank below adventurer, they would freeze in fear and if it was an A-Rank then they should be able to put a fight but not defeat it. The Basilisk monsters needed a group of A-Rank Adventure to defeat them. Even if it is S-Rank then they need at least a pair of S-Rank adventurers.

Anyway, Riley channels her mana into her feet and leg muscles to increase her speed and agility. Before the acid could reach Riley. She had already put quite a distance between herself and the Basilisks.

[Kerianna acquired an Active Skill: Physical Enhancement]

"Show" Riley immediately mutter when she saw she got a new skill

[Physical Enhancement- It is an Active Skill that allows the user to Enhance their Speed, Strength, Dexterity, and Defense threefold than the original user's stats. This skill cause 10 mana per minute]

Riley smirked when she read the contents of her new skill. Riley might have already increased her defense but she isn't stupid enough to depend on that skill when their opponent is a Basilisk whose acid can melt through rocks and trees.

Her dangerous instincts are alarming her and telling her to not let that acid come into contact with her skin.

She manifested her sword and coat it with Dark Magic. Her sword was suddenly coated with a black miasma and it looks like a fire was dancing dangerously with the sword's silver blade. Note that Destruction and the Dark Magic are different. Destruction is more of an evolved form of Dark Magic. It is a hundred times more dangerous than Dark Magic. To put it simply, Riley's Destruction Magic and Wylie's Creation Magic is an element that belongs only to them. It can be categorized as an element and skill at the same time. When Riley use Destruction, its color range from black, violet, and red but if Riley uses Dark Magic, its color is only pure black.

With the use of her lightning element and her new skill. Riley manage to create a feat where her afterimage could be seen in 3 seconds before it completely disappeared. Her speed is so fast that the Basilisks couldn't react at all.

Riley immediately slashes through the Basilisks' legs to disable its mobility. With her strength enhance threefold, her momentum, and her blade's sharpness. Riley cut through the Basilisk's thick and hard scales and penetrate to the Basilisk's legs smoothly.

Roaaarrrrr ——Screeeecchhh

It let out an ear-piercing roar followed by an annoying screeching. I instinctively cover my ears, and when I turn around. I saw a green liquid spat through the Basilisks' mouth that melt anything it touch. I dodge it and again, put a distance.

I continued to dodge the acid by the immobile Basilisks while waiting for the right timing. When I found an opening. I immediately went for it and with my coated sword, boosted speed and strength. I easily decapitated the Basilisks. The Basilisks huge body falls and causes a slight tremor when it came to contact with hard ground.

"Phew"

I release a sigh of relief as I confirm Basilisk's death. I immediately store its body in storage since its skin, claw, scales, etc. can be used to make armor or weapons.

Riley didn't know it yet but the Basilisk is an S-Rank Monster that would need an army to subjugate. Yes, it may be an exaggeration but that's how strong a Basilisks is. It is not called a little king for no reason.

Riley was about to go home with 15x Orcs, 10x Black Panther, 4x Lightning Bird, 29x Red Devil Rabbit, 17x Silver Wolf, 16x Ogre, and 1x Basilisks Dragon, and more in her storage when she heard the familiar Quest Notifications.

Riley smile at the Completed Quest in satisfaction and made her way into their house while hopping one tree after another. When Riley arrive at her destination, her jaw dropped at the transformation of their rundown house.
