Legend of Limits

Jace attempts to flee from his former allies with James's journal in a hazy sequence of events, dialogue, and past occurances that the reader must attempt to piece together to figure out what's going on behind the scenes. As Jace attempts to uncover the truth behind his friends' betrayal, Jace will have to tangle with his former allies, current friends, and ruthless enemies as he makes his way across the continent with Quartz trying to kill him at almost all times and James's grimoire in hand. The version of Legend of Limits with the most chapters and the least grammatical errors is available on RoyalRoad.

Belated Entry

Harris

Wait, when did Jace continue writin' again?

Just after Twilight met with whoever this person you haven't said the name of is, or so it would seem.

Harris

I didn't say her name 'cause I don't know her name, you gonna cry about it?

...

Harris

So we went to the branch and met with the other purple person, and those two got in an argument and fought. The branch got destroyed. You can start readin' through what Jace wrote now, right?

...In your mind, how does what you just said count as an explanation?

Harris

I said what happened, didn't I? That's all that was asked of me, so I'm goin' to get goin' now, alright?

Alex

No, you will not be leaving until you have t h o r o u g h l y explained what happened.

Harris

...

...

...

...Fine, but don't go tellin' me you regret listenin' later.

Although our trip to the guild was relatively uneventful compared to everythin' else that's been discussed so far, what happened at the guild itself was a different story. Only a few seconds after Twi crossed the threshold, enterin' the branch, she locked eyes with the other purple person and they started fightin'.

She shouted somethin' along the lines of 'traitor, how come you're fine when everyone else is *vulgar word of emphasis usually used to refer to a state of active procreation* dead?' ...But a lot more loud and angry-like than how I said it, of course.

Oh, and after that Twi kinda just… uh… absorbed her?

Twi absorbed her? Is that some sort of encoded message with a hidden meaning, or—

Harris

Nah, Twi just kinda waved at the other purple person and the purple person got all deformed and such before bein' sucked into Twi's hand.

Once the person was gone, Twi whispered somethin' I didn't quite understand: "A fake… of course she was a fake. There's no way those blasphemous snakes wouldn't leave any traps. … … …You fooled me once, but there will be no twice."

That's all I know, so get on with it and start readin' Jace's stuff already.

Would he perish if he pretended to be polite for a single sentence? At this point I have become so petty as to write down my thoughts so that I can delay the reading of Jace's journal for long enough to irritate Harris. Wait for it… waaaait for iiiiiit… ah, how marvelous! Well done team me, we got a scowl! That made me feel at least a little better, hehe…

Jace

Ever since Twilight killed that girl at the guild, we've been on the move. How many days has it been since my last entry? How long has it been since I've last seen a calendar? I used to be far more organized.

I sleep without a schedule. I don't sleep often.

Why am I doing this?

I eat without a schedule. I don't eat often.

Why am I traveling with a money-grubbing adventurer and a wretched witch?

Why am I even writing this?

(Written)

To be concise, the next few pages of Jace's journal can be summed up as containing similarly short and dispirited comments and questions as those above.

If anyone reading this would like to see each and every one of Jace's entries, please refer to the censored transcript of his journal which is to be produced and added to the general archives shortly after these documents are organized and added to the general archives.

Jace

I regret it. What I did was purely on impulse…

…isn't really a valid excuse, is it?

I'll never confess this to a priest, but I feel I need to write it here so I may go on.

I killed fourteen members of the clergy. I have stained my blades with the holy blood of paladins, crusaders, chaplins, vicars, rectors, clerics, and other now unidentifiable clergymen. I do not wish to dwell on this, and thus I will not provide any further depiction of what I did. Even so, no one needs to know, and I wish I didn't.

I can't help but notice how late I've been waking and falling asleep as of late. Maybe it's the stress?

On the bright side, it seems that the Church is no longer on our tail. Lucky us! I'm sure today's going to be as good as any other.
