Legend of Argentora: The Girl Who Became the Silver Dragon’s Protege

After barely escaping her pursuers, a runaway slave ended up in the face of a massive dragon. The dragon effortlessly vanquished her chasers and made the rest run for their lives. The dragon introduced himself as Faruk the Silver Dragon. Faruk told her that he was sealed, and to recompense her intrusion to the dragon’s domain, she must form a contract with him in order to free the dragon. However, her life would likely forfeit afterwards. Left with no choice, the eight-year-old girl agreed. As their contract was made, the little girl surprisingly didn’t die and the seal that chained the dragon was shattered. An unexpected result, the Silver Dragon decided to take her as his protege, thus naming her Oria. The little girl was asked to provide a name for the dragon, too. She came up with an idea. Thus, both was named Oria Argentora and Faruk Argentora. One day, a strange wizard by the name of Sqidral Dux, surprised by the release of Faruk, decided to appraise the little Oria. Her stats were nothing but abysmally weak. Until he found out that her MP was 10.000 points, supremely far exceeding the human maximum limit! Cover art by @mokachaos My Discord: NAF12#4308

About Healing Magic

Oria found it interesting to learn about this 'healing magic'. She decided to join the class and picked a vacant stool and sit beside Tili Cozbi along with the other children. Looking at the annoying girl, Oria notices how Tili is very passionate about learning from her sister. She even had a book prepared along with the stationery.

Rosine then begins her special class.

"As promised, I will tell you about healing magic. Healing magic is an ability of the system to convert mana energy into recovery light that can heal wounds of organic entities. It is important to have at least a level one healing magic for a first aid emergency if potions aren't available at the time.

Unlike most magics, using healing magic does not require the skill [Magic Processing] as the magic itself is very simple and easy to use. You don't need to be a mage to learn it. You don't need to be priest to understand it. A knight, a ranger, even a samurai can use it. Not to forget that even freelancers like you guys can also learn to use them."

Almost immediately, Kon raises his hand.

"Priestess, question!"

Rosine kindly welcomes him to speak. "Okay. Go ahead, Kon."

"What if someone doesn't have mana energy since birth? They can't use healing magic, then."

Tili fiddles with her hair while thinking the same thing, "That's right… I also wonder about it."

"Hm. Good question," in her serene voice, she elaborates to their question, "Every living being supposedly have mana energy. If not, they won't be able to live properly, as the brain function is supported by mana itself. Examples of those which don't have any mana are monsters."

Shortly, Oria perceives something in her mind as she listened to her lecture.

"(Oh, yeah… when I fought in that dungeon, there were monsters with zero MP…)"

Tili looks at her in a curious stare. "What are you thinking about, Oria?"

"Eh? Oh, it's just that I realized what she said was right. I've fought with monsters before and most of them had zero MP…"

"W-Wha—!?"

The entire class turn their attention to Oria upon what she had disclosed.

"Eh?"

"Uwoooh! You've fought monsters before?" Kon steered his face a bit too close to Oria.

"I've slain monsters named Horn Rabbit before… though I managed to kill four of them so far," said Alex adding.

"Mm. That's admirable of you, Alex. I only killed two of them," Ayako calmly stated.

Tili sneers at their achievements, "Aww, you guys are the worst! I'm only the one who haven't fought them before! Hmph! But I bet you guys know nothing about magic as much as I do!"

Rosine is a bit surprised to hear that. "Oh, my. Oria, you've fought monsters before?"

"Yeah. It was tough fighting them. But I managed to hold against them, ehehe..."

"Thank Goddess you're alright. …And you've seen the amount of mana they had?"

"Uh-huh. Horn Rabbit has zero mana points, if I wasn't wrong…"

"Precisely. Horn Rabbit does only have zero mana points."

"Mana points, as in MP, ain't it?" Kon asked.

Rosine looks at him, affirming his question, "Yes. It is the same MP that we studied the other day."

Then, Kon turns at Oria, "But if you can see 'em, you must at least have Magic Appraisal Stone or Magic Detection skill to find out, right?"

Rosine nods again, "Why, yes, indeed. It is exactly as Kon said. Oria, if we may ask, how did you know Horn Rabbits have zero MP?"

"(Erk. I gotta dodge this one. As Faruk taught me: quick and simple!) I found out from a certain someone."

"Oh, s'that so?" Tili's face scrunched up.

"*siiigh* I thought you have some cool skills that can find out someone's MP. It might be cool if you can, though…" Kon said disappointedly.

"Come on, cheer up, Kon," Alex encouraged his buddy.

Oria simply smiles at them. Meanwhile, in her mind, "(I CAN find out your name, HP, and MP, too. It's called APPRAISAL. Too bad Faruk disapproved usage of it right now…)"

The silver-haired girl remembers a crucial message from her master before she went to Fred Village with Dux:

"Listen, Oria. While you're at Fred Village, you are NOT allowed to speak of your unusual traits, like your MP. Do NOT say any word of your skills, too! Especially your [E-404] skill. If you ever talk about it, someone in the village may use an Appraisal Stone or Magic Appraisal Stone on you, and chaos will surely follow! You understand?"

Back to present, Oria reminds herself of one particular thing.

"(I better not say anything stupid for Faruk's sake. …And to avoid his fussing voice.)"

The class slowly steers into a different direction. Retaking the reins, Priestess Rosine claps her hand and almost instantly, everyone returns silent and looks at her.

"(W-Whoa! That's one influential clap…)"

"Now, now, everyone. We are getting sidetracked. But to elaborate your curiosity, I will say this: monsters are accursed creatures, disliked by the Goddess, therefore the reason why they don't have any mana or MP. But in some cases, there ARE monsters that have MP…"

The atmosphere turned silent. Everyone keeps their ears open, eager to hear what she'll said next. For a moment, Rosine emits a smirk before finally continuing her cliffhanging words.

"…But that is all for now. It is high time we return to learn healing magic."

"Aww…"

Everyone except Oria is badly disappointed.

"(That's just straight mean… Priestess…)"

Even so, they are still eager to study about the main topic of their class that day. As time passes about an hour, Rosine instills knowledge upon the fledglings of Fred Village about the basics of healing magic and how to practice it properly.

"…As I said, healing magic can only be performed onto living beings. Humans, animals, beastmen, trees, and even monsters, all can be healed with this useful magic. I've told Mr. Marcus to chop down five of those tiny trees for you to train using healing magic. Now, allow me to demonstrate how to chant."

Priestess Rosine crouches to one of those fallen trees and began performing a healing magic onto it. She picks up the main branch that sized about her arm and positions them in a stand. Soon, she begins chanting.

"The Goddess's power nourishes life, bestow upon one who lost their power, the power to rise again. Healing!"

Light shined on her palm. Soon, the innards of the cut down tree reconnect like thousands of threads into the stump of the chopped tree. Afterwards, the tiny tree reforms itself as if it has never been cut before. Finally, a crown of flowers bloomed on top of it.

"Whoa…!"

"That's amazing, Priestess!"

"Teehee. Now, it is time for all of you to try. You have learned about magic processing before, right? It is now that you'll practice them properly."

With that, the class then practices on how to use the magic. And as said earlier, Oria was only observing and not joining in their practice. Because of the simpleness of the magic, even children can learn how to use them quickly without problem, provided they have learned magic processing.

"I did it, Sis!" Tili is the first to succeed. She proudly showed it to her sister. "The tree is standing again!"

"That's wonderful, Tili. Keep it up!"

"Heehee, thanks!"

"Oh! There we go! The tree's all up and livin' a breeze, again, hehe," Kon smirked in his success.

"Thank Goddess, I managed to do it," Alex humbly said.

"It's not difficult, just as you said, Miss Rosine," Ayako added.

Meanwhile, Oria in her observation notices one thing from all of them.

"(They chanted to use healing magic…)"

Oria then walks around and looks at their result up close. Tili notices Oria and brags to her about her achievement.

"Hey, hey, Oria! Look at this! My tree is alive again, teehee!"

"H-Huh, that's cool. But…" Oria turned her attention to the tree that Rosine had healed. "…it doesn't bloom rozferul flowers like Priestess Rosine's.)"

"Eh? Umm… well, Sister is great! Her magic is so great that even flower blooms upon her magic activation!"

"(That can't be, right…?)"

Rosine finally discloses to all, "If you are wondering where's the flower as in my performance, that is because I am a priestess. A priestess has access to higher level healing magic, and because of that, I can heal the tree and grow its flowers."

"Oh, so, that's why! Hehe, guess I don't 'ave the chance to learn higher level, eh? After all, I wanna be a ranger like my dad."

"I agree with you, Kon," Alex tapped his buddy's shoulder.

"How elegant…!" Tili's amazed.

"(Higher level, huh? I wonder how high Miss Rosine's level is right now. But Faruk didn't allow usage of appraisal right now… so, I guess I should hold myself…)" but then, Oria remembers how Faruk uses some sort of a breathing ability that recovers her injuries in a second.

As everyone is busy practicing again, she then decided to ask her while omitting all about Faruk.

"Umm, Priestess Rosine, I want to ask…"

"Sure, go ahead, Oria."

"I heard there was a breath that can heal injuries in an instant. Is that a magic or …is it something else?"

Rosine serenely explains to her, "That is indeed a healing magic, known as Holy Breath. Only a few can perform that godlike magic. But that magic is a simple ability that any dragon lord and Guardia can perform."

"(Dragon lord… huh, Faruk is a dragon lord. He was a Guardia, though. So, that breath he used to heal me was a healing magic, a powerful one, in fact.)"

As everyone is focused on refining their magic, Rosine turns at Oria and in a serious expression, she says to her.

"Oria, I highly recommend you learn about basic healing magic."

"Eh?" Oria is a bit surprised.

"You've fought monsters before, right? I believe you might even have slain some of them. With that, you do know very well how dangerous they are, don't you?"

"Eep… y-yeah… I got hurt a few times, too. But Fa—I mean, Master Dux always healed me."

"Master Dux…? Oh, that Arcane Mage," Rosine just remembered. "Sure, but if you are injured, you can't rely on his help forever. You need to learn healing magic to recover yourself from wounds. That way, you're not going to be a burden to him, right?"

"H-Huh…!" Oria found her words to be very true. Precisely as she said, Oria doesn't want to trouble Faruk and Dux anymore. She doesn't want to be a burden to them.

"Y-Yeah…" she said lowly.

Rosine smiles as she saw the determination in her eyes. "Good girl. The next time we meet, I'd like to teach you healing magic."

"R-Really?"

"I swear in the name of Altria the Almighty Goddess. Though, it's surprising why an Arcane Mage like Master Dux didn't teach you one already."

"Ehehe… I, I guess he has his own reasons…" Oria pauses for a second. She looks at the young priestess in a happy face, "Thank you, Priestess."

"Teehee. You're welcome, Oria."

Another fifteen minutes pass by. An old woman's voice is heard from the front of the blacksmith. That woman then comes to the backyard where Oria is studying along with the other children. The little girl then recognizes the old lady.

"Huh? Granny Poly! Welcome!" the child rushes towards her.

That grandmother of Katze brings a considerable number of items by her arms. Her tote bag increased by three and all of them are full. Despite her aged self, she is absurdly able to carry all of them without losing a breath.

"Keh-heh-heh! Heya, Oria. Didn't expect you to study with Rosine."

"Good day, Mrs. Poly," Rosine greeted her.

"Uwaah… G-Granny, that looks heavy! Let me help!"

"Nyeh. That's nice of you. But fret not, little one. I'm too young to lose to this light weight!"

"(Y-You're nowhere near young, Granny… but she's right, though. She can easily carry them all. It's like she has hidden muscles all over her body. Even so…) I want to help you!"

"Ahhh, that's really kind of you. Well, then, sweetie, take this bag for me, a'ight?"

"Hm! Okay!" Oria proceeds to take one of the tote bags on her arms. It is full of fruits and vegetables. For a simple child, it'll be heavy. But for Oria, whose level is at level 5 in status, she can carry them without a problem.

"Rosine, I thank you for taking care of her while I'm away. It seems that my shopping went a bit… troublesome."

"I understand. No need to thank me, Mrs. Poly. It is my duty to see that her psychological growth is maintained and stays stable. After all, she is enthusiastic to study, which I really like."

"Keh-heh-heh. I've guessed that deep in her heart, she's an energetic child. It seems once again, I'm right on the spot, eh?"

"Sharp as ever, Mrs. Poly."

"Hah-hah. You flatter me. Well, then, we'll be taking our leave. Oria, we're going home, okay?"

"Home…?" Oria immediately gazed to Rosine's face in a troubled look. The priestess can instantly read what she's thinking. Oria is still wanting to stay and observe more from her new friends.

The young woman approaches her. Gently stroking her hair, she calmly explains to her. "Oria, there's nothing to be worried of. We train every day every morning and afternoon. Right now, you must help Mrs. Poly back home. Tomorrow, I'll be waiting for you with the others, okay, sweetie?"

Her words feel warm and peaceful. In a slow response, Oria says, "I… okay…"

"Good girl."

"Hey, Rosine, don't say like that will ya? I'm not that old yet."

"Mrs. Poly, you really need to look at the mirror, sometimes."

After a short conversation, Oria and Granny Poly heads off to the latter's home. On the way, while carrying her goods, Oria thoughts about Faruk.

"(If Faruk is around, I think he'll just use his magic to carry all of these at once. I wonder where he is right now…)"
