Chapter 1: Meeting the old man
I died.
Do I remember how? No.
Do I remember what happened? No.
All I know is, when I opened my eyes again, I could see a line. An endless line, which stretched on forever. I could see white spirits in the line. Occasionally I would see a golden spirit, or a pitch-black spirit, probably extremely good or evil people.
I stayed in the line for what seemed like days, but I wasn't tired. I wasn't physically tired, neither was I mentally tired.
In the line, I was thinking about my mum, and how sad she would be. I was also thinking about my dad who was currently in the hospital, and I was worried about how scared he will be if I didn't visit him.
I eventually reached a line of tables. There were hundreds of tables rowed up.
I then saw something. When spirits reach what I will call for now the 'judges,' the judges will just write down something and expect the spirit to walk away.
'Maybe they communicate spiritually to the spirits,' I thought.
As I floated to my turn, the same happened. The judge looked at me, wrote something, and expected me to float away, but I didn't.
After seeing that I didn't float away, the judge looked more closely at me.
"Move spirit," he said.
"To where?" I was honestly confused.
Now the judge seemed shocked. Scratch that, he seemed more intrigued than shocked, and after a while, his face changed to pure happiness.
'I HIT THE JACKPOT, THE LAST TIME AN ANOMALY SHOWED UP, THAT PERSON GOT A MILLION YEARS WORTH OF PAY AS A BONUS!' Thought the judge.
"Just stand still, don't move," said the judge, confusing me further.
He then pressed a button, which I couldn't see, but on the button, the label was 'ANOMALY.'
Suddenly, a tube came out of the ceiling and sucked me into it.
"WHAT THE HELL," I shouted as I got sucked through and went through what felt like a roller-coaster.
Without me knowing, the judge who sent me through the tube was jumping with joy shouting, " YES I CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR MY TWO WIVES!"
As I went through the tube for about a minute, I finally fell on the ground in front of an old man.
The man just stared at me, then said, " Well the last time I have seen an 'anomaly' was a few years ago."
"Um, hello sir, where am I?" I asked peacefully. After all, I could connect the dots, being killed by a truck, being different from the other souls, and being called an 'anomaly,' I was going to be meeting a God which I cannot offend, and get reincarnated.
"You are in the afterlife, young man. Normally, like the billions of other souls which come here daily, you will have your memories erased the second you die, and your soul will be recycled, so you will be re-born. For those who are corrupt, they will be sent to hell and for those who are righteous they will be sent to heaven." The old man explained.
"What do you mean normally sir?" I questioned, fully expecting the answer.
"Well you are a special case, we call people like you 'anomalys' people who retain their memories, and people who need support to be forced into the cycle of reincarnation." The old man continued. "People like you will have their karmic value reset, get either gifts or restrictions based on your karma, and then be sent to the word of your choice."
I just blinked at the old man. Wow, this is so much like the novels I keep reading.
I didn't reply to the old man. Not because I didn't have the answers. I have been dreaming about this day, I also have had fantasies about it, in which I would go to my dream world and whatnot, so I kinda know what powers I want already.
"Sir, if I may ask, are my parents doing well?" I asked hopefully.
"Yes, they are young man. At the start, your mother was unable to get over your death. Your father was no better, but eventually, your father got out of the hospital and with your mother started to live a happy life. And before you ask, your friends are doing well. Truth be told, you were supposed to lead your team to victory this year, even though the girl you liked would have rejected you." He said while smiling.
But I had another question, mainly due to me being curious, " Sir, who was the one who killed me."
The old man's face turned Solemn. He explained, " We do not speak their name. We call them 'The Raging Universal Cream Killers' TRUCK for short. They only kill the cream of the crop, people who stand out to help the multiverse."
Wow, respect for the truck god.
"Anyways, it is time for you to go to another world. Normally you would be able to pick the world you would want to go to and then make your own powers according to that fictional verse. However, the T.R.U.C.K. have put in a request for everything regarding you to be random."
My face soon turned into shock and a lot of thoughts went through my mind. Any fictional verse and any random power? Wait a minute, doesn't that mean I can get sent into something like Bleach with demon slaying abilities? That would be useless!
Before I could say anything however, the old man in front of me said," I cannot change anything regarding this. It is out of my hands."
I sighed, since it was already specified, there wasn't really a point in fighting this choice.
Then the old man simply snapped his fingers once, as 2 gigantic wheels appeared in front of him.
One with different types of anime, manga and even light novels I have read.
Wait, isn't that Dragon-Marked War god? How the hell are they going to recreate that ?
"Excuse me sir, but how would you go about re-creating worlds like Dragon-Marked War god? Aren't there beings of the Eternal realm, supposedly beyond the God realm in that?"
The old man smiled at my question as he replied," Just because someone has a title of God, or Eternal being doesn't make it completely true. A God is supposed to be someone who is all knowing, and either fortunately or unfortunately, I can safely say that no being in existence can claim to know everything. There is even a theory among us workers, that if someone is all knowing, they don't really know what they don't know now do they?
My point being, the Eternal realm beings in the world are still below us in terms of power. All these fictional worlds are worlds we oversee and thus outmatch by a large margin."
I nodded, the explanation made sense.
"Well without further adieu, let the spinning start!" The god said excitedly as the wheels started to spin extremely fast.
Eventually, after going past a lot of familiar names, the wheel with the verse I would go to stopped first, stopping at 'Sword God in a world of magic.'
"Wait, but that novel isn't even completed yet! There is so much left to discover with the Abominations, the only thing known is that they exist with the child of calamity and that the main-character and…"
"I know the plot, I do not need a recap of it." The old man said, making me stop from my rant.
Then, as I calmed down a little, I asked in a desperate tone," I have read the other novel of the author, Lightning is the only way, before. I can predict where the plot of this novel will go. I can't live a peaceful life, since that is an illusion. Remaining stagnant in power means dying to those who are stronger.
Living like a monk will never let me grow, or be happy. FUCK, this is a lose lose."
The old man only looked at me with a deadpan expression as he said," There is still hope for you. It depends on what you get in your wheel of power."
That's right! This power wheel is my last hope.
As the wheel kept spinning, I saw it go past stuff like 'Perfect time manipulation,' and 'Dragon slaying magic.'
Eventually it stopped at…Monarchs Indifference?
"Ah Monarchs' Indifference. As you should already know, this is a skillsfuture Ren uses to manipulate the main character Ren in the Author's POV novel.
Don't worry, there will not be a future where you manipulate the timeline or something like that. Anyways this will be just like the skill described. You will be like an unfeeling monarch, who executes orders and finishes the tasks set from the start.
You could even say this is a lazy man's path to power. You get stronger all the way with your split personality and then eventually whenever you want to, you reap the benefits.
The only thing you have to do to start your skill, is set the task and think, Monarchs Indifference. Be Careful to not set something that is too hard to accomplish. Something like, kill this entire family. The task will not be completed until you, under the skills influence, hunt every single person down. So make sure to input commands properly."
Listening to the explanation, I couldn't help but nod. Isn't this really good?
One common thing about this author is that he mainly focuses on mindset and willpower more than anything else. Talent can be caught up through experience, but the will to stay alone for thousands of years to perfect 1 sword move, or the will to kill millions of innocents for power. That is not something that can be given, it's something that's forged.
Well, till my cheat.
Did I not just bypass everything important?
