At the Azur Lane Academy, where the sun had set after he completed his tasks and engagements with many ship girls that day, Sakura Zeimachi decided to enter a new area that had been re-constructed by the Manjuu.

An Onsen, commonly referred to as an open-air hot spring bath, still retains its Oriental ambiance, originating from an Eastern country of Sakura Empire.

Inside the hot spring bath, Sakura Zeimachi immersed himself alone after a day filled with planned routine activities.

"There's one on that island, right? Yeah, a hot spring... Well, those girls and Hylia-san should be fine... I want to let her play like any kid of her age, but you tell me what can I do..."

To alleviate the burden and the thoughts that piled up, the man splashed water on his face using a basin. Gazing at the sky covered in a blanket of dark stars, a sigh filled with anxiety escaped from within him.

"At most, they'll take two days to regroup. During that time, Hylia-san can also learn from the legacy that Cera left for her... We'll proceed according to the plan, yes... The pet? Ah, you mean Fuwa, I've already talked to her."

Letting the burden of thoughts melt away in the warmth of the hot water, some of the anxiety subsided and found its release, bringing a little relief to his breath and soul.

Thus, he simply leaned his neck on the edge of the bath, covering his head and hair with a white towel available. Whatever the ship girls would do, Sakura Zeimachi wouldn't pay much attention to it.

This scene was then got noticed by one of the ship girls who came closer to him.

While wagging her tails.

The ship girl wearing only a single towel tightly wrapped around her body, playfully ran around the bath like a trained dog. Fortunately she didn't slip, and when she arrived, she curiously unraveled the towel that Sakura Zeimachi had purposely placed on top of his head.

"Oii, are you alive? Hey Shigure, there's someone weird in here."「Yuudachi」 

Her face was very close, to the point where she could feel Yuudachi's playful sniffs.

Furthermore her voice was too loud, audible even outside the hot spring bath, causing the friend she had summoned to quickly and angrily open the bath's door, entering with several other ship girls.

"You little! How many times I need to say no running in onsen you moron?!"「Shigure」 

"Hmph, how childish you are both of you. Running and shouting in a public place, you seriously need to take an example out from this Yukikaze the great over here!"「Yukikaze」 

"Nobody is asking Yuckykaze~"「Shigure」 

They were the luck rival pair, Shigure and Yukikaze.

The reason for the rivalry between them initially stemmed from luck factors. They constantly competed to demonstrate who was better, like rivals wanting to prove their superiority.

Thanks to their regime training having extended into the night, their squadron only found time for a break during the night.

In addition to Yukikaze and Shigure, who wished to use the onsen, several other ship girls later joined, wearing only a towel wrapped around their bodies.

As expected of ship girl figures, they could leave a lasting impression on many. When they immersed themselves in the onsen, there's no doubt they would become even more beautiful and looked younger than before.

Nevertheless the man paid no heed to any of it and focused on preparing his response to the ship girls' doubts. He got slightly lost in thought upon eavesdropping the ship girls' conversation.

And when he finished thinking, Sakura Zeimachi finally stopped his rail of thoughts upon receiving a small nib from the mad dog again.

"*Gnam* See? Even when I bite, he doesn't move. He's so quiet I thought he's dead."「Yuudachi」 

"Quit yapping weird here and there! This is why anyone keep calling you a maddog! Sigh, just who is this weird person anywa- wait, he? Are you sure you're right... in... mind..."「Shigure」 

Shigure who had distanced herself from Yukikaze, pulled Yuudachi to stop behaving like a dog. Unfortunately it was too late, as when she looked at the person's face, it was already covered in fresh bite marks that Yuudachi's recent nibbling.

"E-Eh?"「Shigure」 

It was at that moment that Shigure finally realized that the person continuously bitten by Yuudachi was their commander. The look of surprise on her face elicited a small laugh out of him.

"Ya, keeping the good work till night? Nice nail by the way." (Sakura Zeimachi)

After Hylia left the cave which was a turned out to be a hunting ground for the Skull Crawlers. Along with a ship girl named Gascogne, they continued searching for a safe place until nightfall.

It wasn't that easy for them to settle in one place due to the island's peculiarities, which didn't allow newcomers to find a relaxing spot easily.

Her shots were so overkill that it shattered the two monsters into pieces, making Hylia to be impressed by the firepower Gascogne had displayed.

Out of curiosity, Hylia intended to replicate what Gascogne had just done, but of course, nothing happened. Fell into a state ready for an air dive, before the monster could sink its fangs into Hylia, Gascogne decided to finish off their last target.

Standing with a cold and emotionless gaze, Gascogne extended her arm for Hylia to grasp. Gascogne's accuracy was quite impressive as the ricochets of her shots didn't come close to Hylia at all.

Hylia's interface screen reappeared capturing her attention yet again.

When Hylia turned her gaze back to the ship girl, she noticed that the aura emitted by Gascogne had changed compared to before. She had become somewhat easier to approach or so from what she could perceive.

"Analyzing armaments... Condition: satisfactory. Please inform me if you have more symptoms, young lady."「Gascogne」

"Don't worry! I can still hold out." (Hylia)

It seemed that Gascogne herself couldn't see the interface screen Hylia possessed. On the other hand, Hylia also couldn't see the system screen that Gascogne had.

"Hup! Let's to the go!" (Hylia)

With a raised fist, Hylia once again boosted their spirits.

That's how their usual activities had been since they first met until now.

Run, be chased, fight, and repeat it incessantly, but that's also where the advantage lay, the advantage they would gain through Hylia's experiences.

What was inside the bodies of those monsters were drop items called Mana Stones, stones that accumulated within the monsters due to the scattered Magical Residue on the island.

She had seen Hylia do this several times before and hadn't been interested. To her, these stones were not much different from regular rocks with a little beauty, so she didn't place much value on them.

Unlike her, Hylia considered those Mana Stones not much different from the Magic Stones commonly found in dungeons, thereby she still collected these drops despite being a little disgusted with monster corpses.

"Unable to determine the meaning of said activity. Why are you frequently collecting those stone?"「Gascogne」

"Alastoru said that by absorbing the energy within these mana stones, my strength will recover more quickly. Interested, Sis Coney? You're the one who defeated them all, so everything should be yours anyway." (Hylia)

Presenting three small blue stones, with her shining eyes Hylia presented the loot she had found.

Gascogne took one of the Mana Stones that Hylia presented as a token of appreciation. When the battle finished, the silence they had hoped for turned into shouts and roars.

"They hear us." (Hylia)

"Attention: preparation for escape has finished. Please grab my hand."「Gascogne」

Rather than staying still and continuing to talk, Gascogne, anticipating the approaching presences, grabbed Hylia's arm and activated her teleportation skill.

In the blink of an eye, they disappeared from their previous position.

There's no thunderous noise, sound, or shockwave created by the skill's use.

When they reached a safe position, Gascogne and Hylia continued to head south until they finally encountered a wall that stretched from end to end.

It was an old, towering wall, weathered by age but still standing there.

The wall seemed to have been erected as a barrier between the territory of the monsters they had passed through and whatever lay behind it.

"Its brittle, let's look for a way in." (Hylia)

Without hesitation, the two of them decided to pass through it by creating their own entrance.

The wind carrying the sea breeze made them feel nostalgic as they looked at the scenery where the waves touched the very sharp edges of the cliffs.

Gascogne realized that the land they had entered was surrounded by a water body that made it impossible for her rigging to set sail.

She's slightly disappointed.

"Map updated, marking this place as South Peninsula."「Gascogne」

As Gascogne added detailed mapping to her algorithm, Hylia who had gone ahead a bit due to her curiosity about her surroundings, noticed signs of past civilization as they ventured further into the peninsula.

By using some of her recovered power, Hylia created few fireballs to illuminate her surrounding area.

The settlements resembled a village or the dwellings of ancient tribes on a remote island. Dirty and damp with mud, with rocky pave made of coral stone. The settlement was certainly not a beautiful or typical housing complex.

"Attention: Please don't step to far from Gascogne."「Gascogne」

On the other side, Gascogne who used her ability to pinpoint Hylia's location and track her, followed through the hole she had created in the wall. Maintaining caution as she materialized her spear weapon, ready to defend them both.

"Wahh!? Ahaha, sorry Sis Coney. But..." (Hylia)

It didn't take long for Gascogne to give Hylia's fireball a touch upon arriving behind her. When she arrived and found Hylia frozen in fear, Gascogne also became aware of the unpleasant sight before them.

"Is this, human bone and s-skeleton?"(Hylia)

"Based on the structure analysis, it's highly likely that these bones originate from humans. Further identification is required to improve the analysis report."「Gascogne」

There was a totem made of animal and possibly human skulls, and they also saw many scattered bones as they ventured further into the settlement area.

Initially, they only wanted to take a look and leave, especially after seeing the unpleasant sight. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side.

A sudden complication arose from the poison in Hylia's body, forcing both of them to stop their escape and spend the night there.

To be honest, Gascogne herself didn't want to make that place their base because her radar showed a multitude of hidden heat presences inside the house-like buildings, just like Hylia, who continued to sense the numerous auras in each house she passed.

But due to the limitations of her teleportation skill that couldn't be used continuously, and to protect the VIP, Gascogne decided to find a place with the least heat presence and lean Hylia against it.

When she arrived, Gascogne cut down various bone totems that bothered her. She didn't hesitate to destroy various pieces of furniture that disrupted the cleanliness of the area where Hylia lay.

This, of course, was not liked by the inhabitants there.

The ship girl heard some sounds originating from her back who then spreading around them. They seemed like roaches moving in a dark room, rustling in the corner, giving out a sense of alertness to anyone nearby.

The ship girl's suspicion was correct when she checked her radar again, there Gascogne saw multitude of heat presences that had moved from their former position and were now surrounding them.

Thanks to the cover of night and their dark skin, they might not be visible to the naked eye, but it was different for Gascogne who could clearly pinpoint their exact locations.

The situation was becoming slightly dire, and as Gascogne kept an eye on her radar, there's another presence she recognized at a relatively moderate distance.

Unlike many monsters she hadn't seen before, she had marked this figure ever since they set foot on this island towards their objective.

One of her comrades, someone with a high ego yet a determination to overcome her shortcomings. That's what Gascogne understood about this ship girl. Currently, this ship girl was steadily approaching at a considerable speed.

"Shaaaa! Kiikkk..."

So far, all the heat presences that Gascogne had marked were still not moving to attack, except for one point where she saw a little girl with dirty, curly black hair who moved forward with a strange demeanor.

There's no doubt, she's also a part of them.

She continued to advance, her white eyes starkly visible without a trace of darkness. Slowly she raised her finger and pointed directly at Hylia who was gasping for breath, all the while grinning, revealing her yellow teeth.

Gascogne came to the realization that they were targeting Hylia, and it wasn't with benevolent intentions.

From Gascogne's hands and legs, armaments emerged in the form of black-clad gauntlets and leg guards. They're vastly different from the stone, stick, and bone weapons wielded by the feral black child along with her tribe's member that keep shouting onto Gascogne.

When one of the settlement's inhabitants shouted while swinging their primitive weapon, Gascogne retaliated against the Islanders' attack.

They seemed eager to finish Gascogne off with their primitive bone weapons and sticks, but her armament wouldn't be easily destroyed by mere swings of sticks or arrows.

"Uhh... what is going on? Uhkk!? Gyaah? Get away!"(Hylia)

Hylia who realized the commotion found it difficult to keep her eyes closed as well.

Some Skull Islanders even attempted to capture and bind Hylia's body when she was momentarily distracted. Although her legs and arms were caught a few times, luckily, her strength remained superior to that of the Islanders.

Upon seeing a multitude of human figures surrounding them, Hylia quickly moved to Gascogne's side to inquire about what they should do. Promptly, she received an explanation of their current situation.

"They're the one who grouped on us? Then... are we supposed to kill them?"(Hylia)

There was a sense of shock in her voice.

The girl had never once committed murder against living beings like humans or other humanoid races. Her usual actions involved eradicating monsters, and even those monsters they disappeared when inside the dungeon.

The closest encounter she had was when she fought Siren pawns, but even the Sirens couldn't be considered similar to humans as they exploded upon defeat. That's why she was hesitant to use her Thorned Staff, let alone Alastor's abilities to eliminate them.

"Report: Based on the instructions provided by Master, engaging in activities that involve "killing" human subjects will be interpreted as disqualification. Therefore, Gascogne will incapacitate them without causing harm."「Gascogne」

"Alright, then I'll restrain them." (Hylia)

Relighting the fire to keep them at bay, Hylia understood what she needed to do. However, she couldn't help but ponder Sakura Zeimachi's intentions behind such orders.

Forbidden to kill humanoid-like monsters and the threat of disqualification.

Hylia promised herself that she would seek clarification from the man.

"Notification: Gascogne is slightly concerned about your condition. Let Gascogne handle this."「Gascogne」

"It's okay. Though my right leg is difficult to move, I still have the other one. I won't burden you, Sis Coney." (Hylia)

Gascogne still had her doubts, but she eventually let it be. Similarly, although Hylia is curious about why Sakura Zeimachi had given such an order, she decided to let it go for now.

They continued to work together, using punches, kicks, staff strikes, and the heat of fire to push the Islanders back, preventing them from getting too close.

Sometimes using what was around them to their advantage was also an option, like using rocks for cover against the arrows and darts the Skull Islanders were hurling. 

And despite holding back their strength, it was quite easy for them to subdue the native Islanders. They could render them unconscious or, in the worst cases, inflict a few broken bones.

Although they managed to break a bone or two, there're still over two hundred bones left within their body so it's going to be alright. Additionally, while they inflicted some injuries, those wounds were not too severe.

The real concern was the poison spreading in Hylia's wound.

Time kept passing as the battle between Gascogne, Hylia, VS the Skull Islanders unfolded.

It was undeniable that Gascogne and Hylia had the upper hand, making it clear they would emerge victorious. However, the sheer number of Skull Islander natives was daunting.

It's worrisome to see Hylia's condition as the battle comes to an end, observing her leg turning increasingly blue and difficult to move.

This observation aligned with the assumption made by a ship girl mentioned earlier in Gascogne's conversation. She had just arrived and was looking down from her vantage point on the dividing wall of the peninsula's territory.

"Oh really? Having fun without me?"「Deutschland」 

Deutschland, who had reached the top of the stone wall, looked very pleased with the abundance of enemies available to showcase her abilities.

"Kahahaha! What a perfect timing!"「Deutschland」 

She was already too impatient to remain a spectator from above, so Deutschland decided to leap from the hundreds of meters tall wall and then wreak havoc upon all those beneath her feet.

Whether it was being a good listener to their complaints or a motivational advisor who could always solve the ship girls' problems, he couldn't sleep all night consumed by these thoughts.

"Hmm? ... Oh so Deutschland is next. Well not bad, the rest should follow not long after... About her details? Show it to me then." (Sakura Zeimachi)

A screen interface similar to what the ship girls had appeared. He initially didn't understand what the issue was with the ship girl's stats. However, since Als asked him to check, he decided to take a look, just in case.

The man stretched his body as he walked through the door, which made a unique sound when it opened. Never had he expected there's someone that had been caught red-handed, peeping from the other side of the door.

A sharp gaze was directed at the ship girl, leaving her speechless and unsure of what to say. The longer Taihou received this intense gaze, the more panicked and worried she became.

It was indeed a typical playful act that Sakura Zeimachi often did to others.

"Joking dayo, I'm not angry... but well its just a little bit." (Sakura Zeimachi)

Feeling that his warning was sufficient, the man then playfully ruffled Taihou's hair before giving her a reassuring pat on the shoulder and bidding her farewell. He couldn't bring himself to punish the girl this time.
