Last of The Fae

Unlike other muggle borns Thane always knew magic was real. He could feel it in the world around him and even more importantly, within himself. But isolated and alone Thane could only dream of one day going out into the world and discovering if there were others like him. But Thane would have never guessed that there was an entire hidden world where everyone was either a wizard or a witch. Thane also never would have guessed that he had a bigger role to play in the grand scheme of the world, one that would require him to grow and learn faster than any reasonable person would expect. --- If you want to read more of Last of the Fae consider subscribing my patreon where there is up to 16 advanced chapters for you to read. Inspecting the glass orb in his hands Thane glanced over the charms and runes bewitching the marble, 'A basic legilimency spell, not powerful enough to read the mind, but should be able to sense vague emotions. Along with a smoke summoning rune and color changing charm.'

Filing the magical blueprint in his mind Thane turned back to face the crowd who was still staring at him like he had grown a second head, "Sorry I was interested in its enchantments."

"Give it back Thane," Harry Potter insisted with a glare which Thane replied with a shrug, "Sure."

With a soft underhand toss Thane threw the marble back to Harry who caught the glass orb seemingly surprised that Thane hadn't kept it for himself, "Um…thanks."

Thane dipped his head in acknowledgement only to feel the auras from his fellow slytherins fluctuate wildly, but no more strongly than Draco's.

"What do you think you're doing? Mudblood!" Draco hissed as he turned to glare at Thane who stood unflinchingly under the heat of his gaze.

There was an involuntary gasp from some of the Gryffindor students and Thane could feel a range of emotions ripple through their auras, "That's the second time you've used that slur when addressing me Draco."

The snot nosed brat sneered at Thane, "Of course I did. It's an accurate description for what you are, a worthless stain on the wizarding world that should be hunted and killed for sport!"

In an instant Thane's spellblade snapped up as he leveled the tip directly at Draco as his emerald eyes hardened, becoming cold and calculating, "Did you just say you wanted to kill me Draco?"

For a brief second a wave of fear washed over Draco's aura before it was replaced by the usual pride and arrogance, "Is that supposed to scare me? Even if you somehow managed to get your filthy hands on a special wand it doesn't change the fact that the magic inside of you is just a mockery of what a pure blood can wield."

"Is that so?" Thane asked as his eyes narrowed, "Then let's put your theory to the test Draco. I wager that not only can I cast any spell you can, but better."

Like sharks sensing blood in the water, the surrounding crowd broke out into a frenzy of activity, with whispers and jeers flying through the air. Startled by Thane's sudden challenge Draco had a moment of doubt but seeing a crowd form around him and Thane Draco realized he couldn't back down.

With a flourish Draco reached into his robes and whipped out his hand, "Very well then since you're so eager, let me show you what a true sorcerer is capable of! Serpensortia!"

In a flash of light Thane watched as a snake shot out of the tip of Draco's wand landing on the ground a few feet in front of him. The crowd collectively flinched back while some shreeked in terror as the cobra raised its head into the air, flaring its hood and hissing before fixing its eyes on Thane with intent.

Then much to everyone's horror and or glee the cobra began to slither towards Thane, snaking its way through the glass as its black forked tongue flicked out to taste the air.

Everyone looked to Thane only to find him standing frozen in place as he watched the cobra draw closer. Grinning at Thane's unresponsiveness Draco had a sadistic gleam in his eyes, "Give up Thane, maybe if you beg for your life I'll stop it from sinking its fangs into your neck."

Still Thane said nothing focused solely on the snake as it got within spitting distance.

Just as the cobra reached Thane's feet Harry stepped forward, his mouth open as if to speak, when Thane knelt down and offered his hand to the serpent. Much to everyone's shock instead of biting the offending limb the cobra gently coiled around Thane's arm climbing up to rest its head on his shoulder.

Standing slowly Thane reached up and gently scratched the cobra on the top of its head causing its mouth to open in apparent joy.

"H-How are you doing that?" Draco asked in a shrill voice, echoing the crowd's stunned silence.

Glancing over at Draco Thane smirked, "Me answering that question would be like a crane telling a toad how to fly. Just accept that my abilities are beyond yours."

Draco's mouth snapped shut with an audible clack as he flushed red in the face, "How dare you try and make a fool of me! You're just trying to stall for time because you can cast the spell yourself!"

"I don't need to make a fool of yourself Draco, you do enough yourself." Thane replied with a predatory grin, "As for the spell, I will admit I haven't learned it. But I have read about it."

"Ha, so that must mean I win!" Draco exclaimed as his arrogance returned with a vengeance, "No mudblood could possibly-"

"I never said I couldn't cast it," Thane corrected as his previously idle aura stirred unfurling around him invisible but certainly palpable interrupting Draco and stealing the crowd's attention, "The book I read said the snake summoning spell is mainly used by snake charmers to amaze muggles. I didn't think a lame party trick was worth learning so I ignored it. But seeing your spell work I think I can make a few adjustments for a more practical use."

Draco's face fell once more as a serpentine smile spread across Thane's face and his emerald eyes shimmered. Holding out his spellblade Thane double checked the spellfame in his mind, smoothing out the final rough patches, "Serpensortia Imperium!"

There was a nearly blinding flash of light from the tip of Thane's focus followed by an ear splitting hiss that rang through the courtyard. As people's eyes adjusted from the sudden flash of light they gasped at the massive coil of emerald scales sitting on the ground in front of Thane.
