Chapter 5: Reasons Why

Rakesh was so transfixed on his thoughts and processing the fact that he finally ran into another wolf, he barely noticed Josie had made her way back inside the cottage as Soren left. He followed her and closed the door, noticing how she automatically buried herself into one of her litany of books she had on her table. Rakesh sat on the couch and observed her, reading her mannerisms easily. He gave her a moment before he finally piped up.

“So, you’re out here by choice,” the wolf ventured cautiously, “but I take it that choice wasn’t made happily.”

Josie stopped her reading and rubbed her temples for a moment before grabbing the book and joining him.

“I’ve made it a point to help people while I’ve been out here,” she began sheepishly, “but there are people out there who would love nothing more than to see those of us who are…a little left of center eradicated just for being what we are.”
