Chapter 152 - The undead dungeon (2)

It had been about five minutes since we entered the Arclight dungeon. During this time, we continued to move forward without a specific direction. According to what Aurora-sama explained to us, starting from the moment we completed the tutorial, each dungeon would be of a specific type, containing only one type of monster. In the case of the Arclight dungeon, these monsters were the undead.

"I know this dungeon is supposed to be full of undead, but it seems like even the place itself is dead"

Aoi commented as we walked, her eyes wandering from side to side as she observed the surroundings. As she mentioned, the place seemed completely devoid of life. In fact, it was hard to imagine that anything living could survive here. After a while, we arrived at a location that resembled a cemetery, with tombstones scattered across the ground.

The sky remained persistently cloudy, and there was a feeling that rain could start falling at any moment. However, since we entered this dungeon, not a single drop of rain had fallen. Moreover, despite the artificial atmosphere the place conveyed, it also had a quality that made it seem natural.

As these thoughts raced through my mind, Glasy, who was by my side, suddenly raised her head and fixed her gaze on a specific point in the cemetery. Her eyes were directed at one particular tombstone, notably larger compared to the others.

It was larger and seemed to be adorned with some kind of ore. Furthermore, a name was engraved on the tombstone. While we pondered this, something unexpected began to happen. The ground started shaking suddenly, leaving both me and the girls anxious as we looked around, trying to figure out what was happening.

After a few seconds, the tremor stopped as if it had never occurred. However, right after that, the tombstone I had been observing seconds ago started emitting a red glow. When the glow dissipated, an arm emerged from the ground, or at least what was left of it.

Although the arm was protected by armor, it was still possible to see that it was composed only of bones, with no flesh or skin. Soon after, another arm emerged, indicating that whatever was underneath was preparing to emerge completely.

"Girls, get ready"

Hearing my words, they all assumed combat positions and prepared their magic. In a matter of seconds, a huge skeleton wearing armor emerged from the tombstone. On the skeleton's back, there was a gigantic sword. Glasy, by my side, growled incessantly as she watched the newly emerged skeletal knight.

With a gesture, the skeletal knight emitted a loud whistle that sounded almost like a cry of horror. The sound caught us by surprise, and instinctively, we covered our ears to try to muffle it.

As the sound dissipated, we turned our attention back to the skeletal knight, trying to understand its action. However, we didn't have to wait long, as we soon heard the sound of something moving rapidly in our direction. In a matter of seconds, a skeleton horse with green flames emerged from the mist, galloping toward the skeletal knight.

As the horse approached the skeletal knight, the latter quickly mounted the horse and drew its immense sword from its back.

"Cool trick"

I stated with a smile on my face, closely watching the skeleton knight.

"But you're not the only one with tricks"

I said, whistling as Glasy, who was by my side, grew enough to match the skeleton horse's height. Mounting Glasy, I drew my sword from storage and turned my gaze to the skeleton knight.

No matter which angle I looked from, we had the numerical advantage, as well as more powerful magic, since this skeleton knight seemed to be of the physical type. However, something still didn't seem right about this place. If that knight came out of the tomb, does that mean the other tombs weren't also filled with skeletons?.

(Usually, this is when enemy reinforcements show up)

Though this thought seemed like a joke, I couldn't have been more correct. Seconds after thinking that, the skeleton knight pulled a black orb from its armor and shattered it. Immediately, tremors began to shake the entire ground, followed by arms emerging from the graves.

In a matter of seconds, the entire cemetery was surrounded by hordes of skeletons, their eyes glowing a vibrant red as they stared at us.

"Makoto, what should we do? There are so many"

Saemi asked anxiously, while Aoi, Fujiwara, and Ana also wore worried expressions.

"Shade"

Without uttering a word, I summoned Shade, who appeared immediately by my side shrouded in black mist.

"What do you desire, my king?"

Shade inquired upon materializing.

"Shade, keep Saemi, Ana, Fujiwara, and Aoi safe. Don't let any skeletons get close to them"

I ordered Shade.

"As you wish, my king"

Shade replied, keeping its head bowed. After that, we were all set. Saemi, Ana, Aoi, and Fujiwara would cast long-range spells, while Shade was tasked with assisting them and supporting me, as I could no longer use magic without her.

Seeing that we had one more on our side, the skeleton knight raised its sword and pointed it directly at us. Although no noise or signaling was emitted, the skeletons seemed to understand what they should do and started running toward us.

"Glasy, LET'S GO!"

Without wasting any time, I shouted Glasy's name, and she began running toward the stationary skeleton knight on her skeleton horse. Occasionally, some skeletons approached us, but Glasy always evaded when possible, and when it wasn't possible, shadow-made whips restrained the skeletons, immobilizing them.

Quickly, Glasy and I managed to traverse the sea of skeletons and approach our main enemy. Glancing briefly behind me, I noticed that Saemi, Ana, Fujiwara, and Aoi were dealing well with the skeletons attempting to get close to me. If any skeleton managed to get near them, it was quickly subdued and defeated by Shade. This meant I could fully focus on the enemy in front of me.
