Chapter 13: Dead End

It was hard to ignore the fact that her father was making Jason do things he didn't want to do. But she had wondered. Was it really her fathers doing, or is he brainwashed with all the lies her father had told him. Either way she knew her father was up to something and that Jason was going to be apart of his plan.

Adam had slept on the couch so he could blow off steam. Autumn had an idea of opening the box that Adam had put on the shelf. She didn't know why but sleeping had become a bit hard for her and she couldn't stop thinking of what was in the box.

She grabbed the box from the shelf and opened it quietly. All she could see was the heart and the blood on the walls of the box. She went outside and couldn't help but throw up in the chrimmed grass.

She walked back inside and felt her stomach in pain. The feeling was to impossible to ignore.

For the whole night she just stayed up groaning quietly from her painful stomach. The box with the heart had fallen on the ground and rolled out of the box.

Adam had finally woken up finding Autumn on the floor drowning in tears and looked like she was into much pain to move.

"Autumn what happened?!" He asked kneeling on the floor next to her.

She pointed to the box seeing that it was on the floor, open. She didn't, couldn't see him move. But he had closed the box after trying hard to put the bloody heart back in and put it on the highest shelf so she couldn't reach for it.

Once he did Autumn had felt no more pain. She was able to stand on her two feet without feeling like falling onto her knees.

"I'm sorry Autumn." He said with a depressed face.

"Why are you sorry? I'm the one who opened the box when it was clear that I wasn't supposed to." She said confused.

"Yes. But I didn't tell you that the heart has its own evil power. It can easily kill just you. I don't understand why though." He said

It made sense. Her father had told Jason to kill the pig because he knew that it could slowly kill only her.

Adam had turned on the television and looked around the box to look for any clues.

"Autumn I found a note on the bottom of the box." He said pulling it off.

Before unfolding the note they both heard something on the news that caught their attention.

"Hello. Today we are witnessing the house of Officer Adams go up in flames. People say they saw a child come out of the house unharmed by the fire. Firemen are still trying to put it out and the investigation still remains to be unsolved. No one knows where Officer Adams is and still worries where he might be. The person who created this event is still at large. No one know when and where he or she will strike next. Better to be on high alert if anyone sees anything strange. Please still remained calm. Everything is being handled smoothly. This is reporter John Clark signing off."

Adam turns off the television, disappointed at himself for turning it on.

"I didn't know so much was going on." Autumn said still looking at the television as if it was on.

"Will yes. When something big like this happens reporters get threasty for it. They ask everyone way to many questions hoping to get something good to share. It bothers me." He said as he tried to unfold the note.

Adam read the note out loud so Autumn was able to hear.

"Hello my daughter. Inside the box is a pigs heart. This heart will not only kill you slowly but will drain your special abilities. Your lucky Adam knows what my plan was or you would be dead wouldn't you."

"My father is cold hearted." Autumn said with a depressed look on her face.

"Yes I agree." Adam said sitting next to her.

Autumn got up from her seat. "I'm done sitting. Lets go to the station and tell them your ok. Then let's continue these cases. Soon if we don't start doing something the world will fall with us on it."

Autumn walked outside and started walking to the station. Adam had caught up to her after ten minutes of walking.

"You know we can take the car right?" He asked.

"Yes but right now all I want to do is save the world." She said without looking at him.

They both walked to the police station hoping the chief had time to talk.

They walked in seeing all the faces of the officers surprised. Soon there was a crowd of officers crowding Adam saying that the chief was expecting him. Autumn quickly walked to the chief's room hoping Adam would soon follow.

Adam soon walked in the chief's office and they both sat in the chairs that were in front of the chief's desk. Autumn had seen the case of the old man and Jason all spread out on his desk as if he were working on it all night.

The chief looked at them with a serious face. "I seriously hope you two have some kind of evidence for both cases."

Autumn looked at Adam . He looked calm but she knew he wasn't.

"Yes I do. This boy Jason had shown up to Adam's house as we were there. As we left Jason to sleep we had taken a walk. When we got back, the house was in flames and Jason was gone." She said in a serious tone.

The chief took a few minutes to understand what was said.

"How do you know he didn't die in the fire?" He asked.

"Don't people usually scream for help when caught in the middle of a burning flame? If is kid had screamed. the reporter, we all saw on the new would have said that people heard it." She said hoping he would understand her point.

"I see. That's some great work. Great job. Adam, how about you catch up on what's going on. Maybe take some notes. This young lady is doing a better job at it than you are." He said turning his eye to Adam's direction.

"Sir. I've been working hard at this just like she has. I gather evidence and solve crimes. Au....Leatha and I are in this together." He said glancing at Autumn than the chief.

Autumn knew he had almost mistaken her name. She had forgotten that everyone but Adam and Jason knew her as Leatha.

"I understand. Leatha. Do you know what your going to go now?" Chief asked in wonder.

"Yes. I have three sisters that can help. I know where one of my sisters are. I can use the money I took to get there." She said looking the chief in the eyes.

"Ok. But Adam can not come with you. His job is here. He will keep working on the two cases. You've done a great job. But Adam is needed here. Where are you going?" The chief asked.

"I'm going to New Jersey." She said seriously.

"Ok. I will alert the police station in New Jersey. Are you sure your three sisters can help?" He asked.

"Yes. My sisters can help. I know they can." She said in confidence.

"Ok. Adam, you need to get back to your desk. You have a lot of work ahead of you." The chief said looking at Adam deeply in the eye's.

"Yes sir. But if you let me. I'd like to speak to Leatha." He said softly.

"Make it quiet. She has a journey ahead of her." Chief said crossing his arms.

Adam tapped on Autumn shoulder. She knew she was suppose to follow him, but she couldn't. She didn't want to say goodbye. She would miss him to much.

"Adam. I'm sorry. But I have to act fast. I need to get to the train. I have to do this. But thank you for your help the past few weeks. You've been helpful." She said trying not to look at him.

"I understand. But are you going to come back?" He asked.

"I'll never leave my home town. This is where my life is. I'll come back. I could never leave Pennsylvania, I'm not done here, not yet." She said honestly.

Adam smiled, knowing that was the honest truth. "Ok."

Adam hand her pieces of paper, which she knew were the letters and notes from her father and one from Jason. Autumn put it in her pocket.

"Goodbye Adam." She said standing.

"Goodbye Leatha." He said.

Autumn walked out of the chief's office and than the front doors, knowing she was going further and further away from Adam, and closer to her mission. But she knew this was the only way she could do this, Alone. She knew she was going to face things she didn't want to. But now she couldn't turn back.

Autumn was ready to take on her quest. She lived in Pennsylvania her for most of her life and was now going to say goodbye to it. At least for now. She had a quest to find her sister's and find herself, to find what her future is. This is the only way to complete those missions. To complete her whole life and get back what she had lost. But first she had to do something that she knew was hard to do. She had to say goodbye to the parents that were there to raise her.

She was standing in front of the house. Telling herself many times to go inside. But if she had she wouldn't leave. But soon enough her parents had came outside on their own, shocked and surprise to see the face of their lost child.

All they had done was walk down the porch steps and walk over to her. Autumn had stood still the whole time, scared of what they might say to her. They both stood twelve inches away from each other. Both her parents had hugged her and she couldn't help but hug them back. After hugging each other for awhile they all let go of each other and waited for someone to speak. But lucky someone had broken the silence.

"Leatha. My sweet child. I miss you so much." Her mother said with more than one tear down her cheek and to her chin.

"Mom. If you think I'm coming back. I can't. My life isn't normal anymore. I have to live through this life. I will miss you so much and all of my friends from my school and everything else. But this is something I can't say no to. I have to do this. Nothing you can do or say to change it all." Autumn said upset at what her life has become.

"We understand. When your mother told you the truth, we knew your life would change. But only for the best, not the worst. We're both proud to say that we are glad to see you again. Thank you for finally meeting and seeing us." Her father said smiling.

"I'm sorry mom and dad. I will miss you." Autumn said with a tear down her face, smiling.

Before they could say another word she had walked off, not wanting to see the sadness in their eye's.

Autumn got on the train after waiting hours for one to come out the dark tonals. She was on her way to New Jersey and now ready more than ever. She knew this was going to be a big step for her, and that she was only 15. But this is her fight,, and no one else's. She had to do this alone. But she knew she wasn't alone forever, because her three sisters were going to be on the same path as her. She was the one to bring all of her sister's together as one.
