Chapter 12: Fire Blows Away

Autumn had loved the feeling of smiling again.

Adam knew her and helped her every step of the way.

They both walked back to his house. But when they saw the house it turned out to be up in flames.

"My house!!!" Adam yelled running to the front of the house panicking.

Autumn called 911. Soon fire trucks speeded to the house to put the fire out. Autumn looked around to see if Jason was around.

Autumn had felt upset and angry. She didn't see Jason anywhere and that had meant she had lost him, again. She was so upset that she had walked off without telling anyone. Without knowing where she was actually going. But no matter how far she went she could still hear Adam scream from the top of his lungs.

Autumn didn't know where she was walking, but all she did was look down at the sidewalk. She knew Adam would soon enough wonder were she was. But honestly she couldn't care less. Everytime she was smiling and happy. There would always be someone or/and something that made her feel depressed about this world. Someone always being upset because of something that wasn't her fault. Even if she was mad, someone would still be mad at her because her father had done something in the past.

Soon Autumn had looked up and saw that she had walked to the old mans shop. She didn't want to go in. But at that same time she did, so she can just get away from everything.

Three hours later Adam's car pulled up in the empty parking lot. Adam came inside and sat next to her. But didn't say anything. All she did was cry. She couldn't just sit still, knowing tears is the only way to let her true feelings out.

"I'm sorry Autumn. You were smiling and happy and now that's all taken away from you. Everything is taken away from you." Adam said softly, comforting her.

"You don't need to say sorry. Honestly I thought I was a person that could help people. But no matter what I do someone gets killed. Someone gets hurt. Why am I saying I can help people when I can't even help myself?" She said upset.

"Don't say that. Don't talk like that. There's always good in you. You just have to find it." He said.

"I can't. Why should I? What's the point of this 'saving people' act if I just can't." She said slowly standing up.

"What are you saying?" Adam asked still sitting.

"I'm saying. What if I join my father in his reign of terror?" She asked, not wanting an answer.

"Autumn don't go there please." He said with a sad face.

"Why not?! I've lost everything! You don't know what it feels like to have your heart ripped out of your own chest! It hurts because it feels like no one cares! Deep inside I have a dark emotion in me! I need to start showing everyone that they have something to be scared!" She shouted.

Adam stood up and held Autumns hands. "Look at your hands. Look at how the light is their. No one is going to understand you. No one is going to save you from your own feelings. You need to save yourself. Because in the black darkness will always be a light inside. You just can't see it yet. Calm down. I'm here for you." He said calmly.

Autumn pulled away from him. She felt to close and to broken. She looked at her hands.

"Adam, I have a darkness inside me that might never have a light. You know I felt something when I thought Jason was dead. I told myself that it was good that he was dead. So then I wouldn't have to worry about him getting hurt. So wouldn't worry about him anymore. My thoughts control me, not the other way around. That's why it's going to hurt doing this." She said crying.

"Doing what?" Adam asked.

"To say that you can't be near me anymore. I know you understand me. You that you said you would die if I died, and that was sweet. But this is my battle, not yours. It's only fair if I do this alone." She said, sounding upset

Adam sat back down with a surprised face. "I'm not going anywhere. This is a time when you shouldn't be alone. Plus where would I go? My house was just burned to the ground." He said starting to raise his voice.

"Fine. We can both camp out in here. There's food and water." She said sitting next to him.

"Listen, Life gets hard sometimes. But we both need to get through this. Then you'll, we'll finally be happy." Adam said smiling at her.

She didn't realize that Adam was the only person keeping her sane in this world of normal.

Ten minutes later they both heard something at the door.

Autumn opened the door and found a package.

"Who would send a package here?" She thought.

She grabbed the package and closed the door. Autumn showed Adam what was in her hand.

"Who would send a package here at the shop when everyone knows that the owner in dead?" He questioned.

"Adam please don't remind me. Let's just open it." She said sitting down.

The package had a letter attached to the top. Autumn unfolded it. It read.

"He's making me do this. Everyone is in danger. Let Adam know I'm sorry. Please don't find me though. Maybe one day you'll understand. Even if you don't I'm sorry. -Jason"

Autumn was surprised. She didn't know Jason was the cause of Adam's house burning in flames.

"May I please see the letter?" He asked.

"Sure. But why?" She asked handing him the paper.

"Because I've seen this before." He said looking closely at the paper.

"You've seen a letter saying that they've burned your house down?" Autumn said with a little laugh.

"Very funny. But no. Jason is giving us a sign. Mostly a code. You have to only look at the first letter of the first word in every sentence. It might have said that he doesn't want us to find him. But it really says H.E.L.P. M.E." Adam said pointing as he explained.

Then Autumn had finally understood.

Autumn opened the box that had came with the note. But once she saw what was in the box she couldn't help but through it on the floor.

"What was in the box?" Adam asked

"It was a pigs heart. The box was bloody inside." She said her face in shock. Breathing as if she was about to have a panic attack.

Adam got up from his seat and looked inside the box. Then he closed it back up like it was never touched, he put it on a shelf.

"I'm sorry you had to see that." He said calmly has he sat back down next to Autumn.

"How can you even look at what was in that box without freaking out?" She asked surprise, still trying to consume air.

"Autumn. I've seen worse." He said looking down at the floor holding her hand.

"What could be worse than a pigs heart in a bloody box?" She asked

"Watching someone kill themselves because they hated what they did and they didn't want to go to jail for it." He said.

"Oh. I didn't know someone actually did that." She said shocked

He looked at her deeply into her eye's "I know you didn't. Seeing those types of things happen and knowing you could've done something is hard to get through. But it's also part of a police's job to know when you've tried your best and when never to give up. "

"I understand." She said leaning her head on his shoulder.

Autumn knew Adam had been through a lot worse than she has. It was scary for her to even think about what he might've gone through. But Autumn was here for him now. Autumn knew she wasn't going to tell Adam fall into the darkness. Although he might've already been in the darkness all along and she just didn't know it.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked putting her head up.

"Sure." He said

"Why did you say my father won't hurt you? My father hurts anyone that I love." She said questioning him.

"Do you think I working with him?" He asked looking at her.

"Maybe. Just tell me why he's killed and tricked me with everyone else I care for but not you." She said looking at him with question.

"The reason why he hasn't killed me is because the wind kingdom had and still has something deep on him that could destroy his plans. I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want you to go crazy over it." He muttered.

Autumn was mostly shocked and baffled about the unspeakable wouldn't he had said.

"Do you know how much I've been through! This one thing could've and still can save millions of lives and your keeping it in hiding from them and especially me!" She jeered.

Adam had felt bad about what he had had done. But he didn't show his depression.

"Autumn it was for the best! You don't understand! If this type of thing got out to people you have no idea what they might do! I've lived on this cruel planet longer then you have! You don't know this world like I do!" He shouted.

Autumn surely didn't know what Adam had been through. And the feeling of Adam yelling at her had made her scared. But not of him, of the darkness he had inside him.

Autumn didn't know what to say but all she did was hug him. The only thing that would help him smile or at least let him let his emotions out another way.
