It was dark when I stepped outside — dark, warm, and humid. Anthony's office was a small building near the main house, which was a bit of a hike from my quarters. I could've driven here, but I enjoyed walking, and after sitting still for two hours, I was eager to stretch my legs and clear my mind.
I hadn't taken up to a dozen steps when I heard a woman calling my name. I turned to see Layla's sister, Katherine hurrying across the wide lawn. She was holding what looked like a wrapped-up flask against her chest.
"Lucas, wait!" She sounded out of breath so I stopped, curious to find out what she wanted. After the stunt we had to pull on Daniel last year, she's been a little distant. I figured it was because she's been just as busy as I was. Moreover, she went away for a while after everything settled down, but now she was back, seeing as Layla and Luca needed her.
