Chapter 1

Jinx

I couldn't help but smile as the cool wind blew through my hair as I ran between the buildings of a small town called Nafere. Why am I running, you might ask.

Well, the reason is simple: I stole something.

And it wasn't even something of much importance to the people, but still, stealing is not looked upon kindly in my world.

Shouts echo from behind me as I hit a dead end. This is quite an unfortunate circumstance, for them, that is.

I turn to face them head on and wait as the shouts become louder and louder. Twelve men halt in front of me with torches in their hands.

"Hand over the object, witch!" the man in front spat at me. This of course infuriated me.

"I am not a witch, I am a Mage!" I state angrily.

"I fail to see the difference." he sneerd at me. I smile, maybe I should show him the difference. I conjure a ball of magic in my right hand and let it hover there, enjoying the look of fear on their faces. Of course I would never use it on them, I promise I made my parents many moons ago, but I have become quite creative in how I use it. I thrust the ball of orange whisps into the ground and watch as it flows forward towards the men before me who back up slightly. Then from the ground a wall of fire formed making the men scream in shock and fright.

With them distracted, I run to the wall at an angle, shoot a ball of blue to my left, giving me enough momentum to climb over the wall on my left. I hoist myself up and stand on the rooftop watching the men stare back at me with looks of disgust and anger and a little but if fear.

I smile and take out the gold rock in my pocket, the rock I stole. I toss it in the air and catch it, just to rub it in their faces that they could not stop
