Outrun the lies

*The Next Morning*

𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐚'𝐬 𝐏𝐎𝐕

It was a cold and sunny morning. I could feel the warm yellow rays of sunshine once again, wafting through the wooden glassed window of the shed.

I could feel my eyes flutter open as it was too bright to look at the beautiful beaming light. I slowly lifted myself to awaken and noticed that everyone was still asleep, I felt a shiver go down my spine as i felt a cold breeze into the room, Wrapped myself with a blanket, Grabbed my phone, and decided to go through it. there was a group picture of our friend group and it had Nina in it.

I deliberately put one hand on my forehead, as i felt gloomy and unhappy after losing my closest friend.

I remembered that today was the day we were going to explore the forest and i knew i wasn't ready.

For some reason, i had a strange feeling as if it would be a bad idea but i know we have to take a risk to find our best friend. It was 8 pm and it was almost time to go to school, I woke up my friends and got ready for the day.

We don't normally have breakfast but today we decided to stop by a cafe called Cinnzeo Cafe before school starts since it's pretty known around this neighborhood. Most of my friends were silent during the car ride to the cafe but i wasn't stunned because we knew what today was.

We happened to reach out destination and entered the cafe in silence.

Olivia - psst Mila, whispers Olivia.

I reply back 'yes Liv?'.

Olivia - So i guess today's the day huh?.

Mila - yes, did Valentin bring the supplies or whatever u call it?.

Olivia - mhm, at least i think i do but i'm quite nervous especially with what happened yesterday. Would if we find something you know...

Mila- mhm. Hey? did u notice how strange Jake was acting towards me yesterday?, i gotta admit it was quite creepy.

Olivia- Ok ok but you don't think Jake knows what happened to Nina right? Could he be involved? i mean i noticed that when everyone was gathering around the bloody poster with a picture of her on it, he wasn't there...

Mila- We shouldn't tell Igor because he's pretty close with him especially Valentin. I know Valentin is being a smarty rn but we still shouldn't trust him fully... If you know what I mean?

Olivia - Yeah...We should probably start heading out, we don't want to be late or get a detention.

Mila's POV

I glanced over at her as she was walking away, I grabbed my drink and began to head out too. I grabbed my phone and felt a cold figure approach me, I didn't look up until I heard a voice that I recognized. Unfortunately, it was Jake and I had the same strange feeling that I did this morning. I start to think to myself, would if he is involved? I mean he just shows up out of nowhere, like a ghost.

He had this intimidating look on his face and that creeped me out even more. I felt my fingers tuck into my palm with anger as I darted at him.

Jake - Well, well, if it isn't Mila Brown, what are you doing here in Cinnzeo Cafe?

Mila - I could say the same about you, I was just about to go to school, shouldn't you be heading there too?

Jake - ... Yeah I guess

* I felt a shiver go down my spine once again, I knew he was trouble *

Mila - well I guess I should be going now * I look back with frightened eyes*

Jake - " She loved mysteries so much, so she became one", no wonder she went missing.

* I stopped as I heard what he said *

Mila- Nina loved mysteries but never asked to become one, you sick person and I thought Igor was worse than you.

Jake -" You didn't even know me when you knew me."

Mila - whatever I'm going to class * I quickly ran inside the school to try and find my friends. As I got there, I saw Olivia Run up to me as if there was no tomorrow*

Olivia - Mila what happened? What took you so long? We got worried.

Mila - Jake happened.

Olivia - what did he say? Don't let his words get to you ok?

Mila- h-he...

Valentine - Mila, Liv Come quick!

* I felt Val come closer to us *

Mila - what happened Val?

Valentine - Igor found something in the Janitor's closet. It's a note.

* the three of us were supposed to head to class but we walked into a Janitor's closet instead.

More of POV

I walked in front of Igor to try and see what the note said*

"You can't Runaway or outrun the lies"

" She loved mysteries, so she became one "

"She's gone, She will never be found "

" Sometimes when one person is missing, the world seems depopulated"

None of us understood what any of that meant but one Quote that caught my eye was the one that Jake mentioned to me.

Could he be involved or am I overthinking?

Could it be an animal that got to her or something that we don't know of?

Could liv be right about all of this?

* We all looked at one another and I decided to confess It to the others about what happened this morning at the Cafe *

Mila - Jake mentioned the second line tone this morning and that's what creeped me out even more. Were they the only ones that know that she loved reading mysteries and solving problems? I mean she was the brave one after all.

Olivia- I knew that there was something fishy about that boy. it's like he's watching our every move, When we leave practice early we need to run to the car and leave.

Igor- Guys Guys relax, Jake isn't involved he's a jokester.

Mila- Igor be quiet, Has anyone seen Adrien since school started?

Olivia- yes I dropped him off in class, he's fine and we'll be able to see him at practice. for now, let's get ready for It.

Mila- Ok let's go

Valentin - is that how the plans gonna go? Just asking?

Igor- think so? I mean we ain't got nothing better.

*We all get to the changing rooms for practice. We left our supplies in the car so it should be fine, for now, we just have to get out and pretend as nothing happened. I could tell we were all in despair but we just couldn't show it to anyone because it would give it away.
