I look lazily out the train window, watching...nothing go by. It's railed to an underground interconnected system of tunnels, so as I look about, I see nothing but soil and engraved pathways.
Enhsi had bullshitted his way into a first-class seat, so I'll probably be alone for the rest of the foreseeable future-
"This seat taken?"
I flinch. A crucial plot point is about to occur, isn't it...
I shake off my discomfort, not looking away from the window. "Nah." The seat shifts as the man (I'm assuming) sits down to my left. Despite how uncomfortable this is, I've already agreed to let him sit down, so I can't exactly scream at him to leave...
"Where're you headed?"
That's a good fucking question. I don't know anything about where I'm headed other than that it's somewhere in the west- AND FUCK I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT MY FRIENDS WERE GONE AS WELL!! I just gotta lie my way through this.
"Oh...you know..."
The man pauses.
Fuck-
"Well, I suppose a path isn't that easily defined."
The fuck is that even supposed to mean? Whatever. I got out of the question. I do my best to regain my composure and ignore the man, straightening myself back toward the window. As I look out, however, I see a figure. A reflection, rather. Positioned to my left, leaning casually against his seat was a...woman?
She has long, blonde hair, about six feet tall. A cigarette hangs loosely from her mouth, smoke pluming from the tip. On her face is a pair of aviator sunglasses, plastered on top of a bored expression. She has an altogether biker motif. I stifle a squeal. In hindsight, her voice HAD been more of a deep womanly voice than an average male one.
I violently cough.
I need to compose myself-
"Say now,"
I sit straight up. "Y-yes?"
There's a pause. "Well look toward me. God damn..."
Reluctantly, I shift myself in her direction- and she's staring right back. I gulp, a bead of sweat running down my forehead.
She furrows her brow. "You nervous or something?"
"N-no..."
She removes her cigarette, putting it out on the tray in front of her. "Alright. Before I ask anything, don't even TRY to lie, alright?"
This unsettles me. Deeply. I don't find it wise to just go along with this though.
"Who are you...?"
"Irrelevant."
FUCK. I don't know what to say at this point. I scramble to collect my wits. She begins glowering as I fail to respond. "We can do this without any harm coming to you. Just listen to me, alright?"
I'm out of options. A fight right now would mean the death of countless civilians, as well as Enshi. That's out of the question. I take an unsteady breath.
"Fine."
A smile pricks at the edges of her mouth. "Good. Now, I'm going to need you to stay silent as I tell you this."
I nod.
"Firstly, I'm going to kill everyone else on this train but the conductor."
My heart skips a beat.
The hell?!
"Next, he's going to take us somewhere. And from there, I need you to do exactly as I say."
I stare in a dumbfounded silence. "I-I..."
Her eyes flare a bright orange. "Sorry, but you're not exactly in a position to protest right now."
My hand grazes the hilt of Jigoku's katana. I have a chance. Right here. If I'm fast enough.
"Sorry lady," I reconfigure my face, now staring coldly. "I don't think I can allow you to do that."
With a zip of energy, I swing the blade horizontally, hoping to lob her in half. Almost gracefully, she dodges backward out of the way. Civilians begin to scream in terror, congealing at the exit door, hoping to escape to another car.
The woman begins to spark with explosive bursts of flame, hands in her pockets. Electricity crackles about as I lock my eyes on hers- I can hear an aggravated cry from the next car over.
"OKORAMO I SWEAR TO GOD-"
The door flies off its hinges, spinning flimsily across the room until it hits the back door with a sharp crash. A hand grasps the doorframe, followed by a heavy, punk rock boot, and soon, Enshi's full infuriated form is standing enraged in the doorway.
His head snaps in my direction. "FUCK YOU!!"
"Dude this isn't my fault-"
"Would you both just shut the FUCK up?!" The woman yells. Enshii narrows his gaze, locking onto the woman. "You causing trouble, bitch?"
She glares...and then she's gone.
With a sudden surge of heat, an explosion rings out to my right. Quickly, I turn to see Enshi floored on his back, the woman perched crouching atop him, a smoking hand placed upon his face.
He's not moving.
She rises, wiping off her hand, casually walking forward. I hold my ground...barely. The fuck is her deal?!
The front.
Swaying to the left, I duck out of the way- and almost instantly, I'm blown forward by a blast of heat and force.
I roll to the side, landing shakily on my feet. Shit, she's fast.
A deep metallic groan echoes through the car as it begins to sway unsteadily, I struggle to stay on equal footing. My face drops. You don't mean to say...
I whip my head back, and I'm met with the worst-case scenario. A gaping hole is blown into the floor of the car.
I'm fucked.
I hand wraps around my face, slamming me into the wall to my left. A muffled scream escapes my mouth- before a subsequent ear-splitting explosion. This hand was Enshi's. He stands decrepit in front of me, pinning me to the wall. On the opposite side of the car, it seems as if the entire foreseeable wall had been blown off. Enshi releases his grip. "Don't let your guard down. THAT was headed straight for your skull." I take a long moment to digest that.
"Yeah."
Ahead.
With a cunning slash, I meet the woman's explosive palm with the metallic edge of my blade. The metal was still holding up...somehow.
I twist the blade to the side, and she cries out in pain as her wrist bones crack in response. With a surge of strength, I shove her away, sending her tumbling to the ground. I level my sword at my side.
This still isn't a manageable fight...
My train of thought is cut off by an angsty teenage sigh. I turn toward Enshi, who looks back at me with determination. I stare inquisitively. "What?"
"You're the best hope we have, Okoramo. As much as I hate to say it."
My face contorts to one of confusion. "Best hope of what?"
He shakes his head.
"Of defeating the demon king."
The scrape of boots against flooring can be heard behind me. The fuck is he trying to do?! She's right there!
He places his hand on my heart. "We can't lose you now, pervert. Now go. Ascend."
And with a flash of blinding light, the world around me begins to fade to nothing.
