It was two days before the set day for the sacrifice of the virgins. Ogbadu knew he had to act fast or risk his plan failing.
“This plan is crazy,” Seidu, Ogbadu’s childhood friend, said. “Have you considered how your parents and siblings would feel, not to talk of us your friends?” he asked.
“Have you considered how the family and friends of the virgins, my beloved Inikpi’s included, will feel or how they would feel in that godforsaken hole?” Ogbadu thundered.
“Beware of risking the wrath of the gods,” Seidu warned.
“I have made up my mind, Seidu. If you will not help me, I am prepared to risk it alone,” Ogbadu replied.
Seidu was pensive in thought for a while.
“Okay then, you win but hope you won’t regret this?”
“My only regret would be staying here to watch my beloved Inikpi go on that journey alone,” he said with a tone of finality. Tears welled up in Seidu’s eyes.
“I shall miss you greatly,” he said and the two friends clutched each other in a tight embrace.
