31 Engi: Technomancy

Technomany is the path of magic that mechanics follow. Technomancers do not have the innate talent for using magic, but they have the skill to harness magic for technological items. Much like an enchanter but with technology.

1 out of 1/1000 orcs have the innate talent to be a technomancer aka mechanic. But most do not have the potential to reach any degree of mastery. Out of 1000 orcs that have the talent to be a technomancer only 100 have the potential to become a master. Out of those 100 only 10 have the potential to be a grandmaster. Anything further than that depends highly on luck.

The 900 technomancers that do not have the potential to become masters are usually stuck in ships foing routine maintenance work, never having a chance to advance unless they have a chance encounter that will push them over the edge.

Erabel sighed as she spoke "This is not a bad fate however, Even the lowest talent technomancer is a highly prized orc, and are treated with the greatest respect. I am one of these types of technomancers. My life is bound to a ship. But this is not the case for you. I can not tell for sure, at least not without a test, but you have the potential to be at least a master if not a grandmaster technomancer. This is why the orcs were willing to trade for you."

"You're worth only goes up when you factor in that you have metal as your innate element. All orcs have an innate element, though for the vast majority of us it simply raises our resistances. Only one out of ten thousand orcs have the ability to actually do magic. So whether you can do magic or not is not something I am qualified to test. But what makes you special is your metal element. Of the four minor elements, names Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, orcs are aligned with fire. If an orc has a minor element affinity it will be fire. as for the major elements, Space, Time, Light or darkness we tend to awaken space or Darkness. The unique elements of wood or metal we awaken metal."

"The unique elements are far more rare than the major and minor elements, but that does not mean they do not exist in the orcs. And most of the orcs who awaken a major element or a unique element are capable of magic. More than likely you will be able to as well. This does not mean you will have a high affinity though."

Esabel paused speaking again for a moment as she looked at Engi. "I tell you this because we are about to arrive at the testing facility. You need to know what awaits you. I will not have much chance to speak to you again after this..."

"You have learned everything I can teach you, after all I am not a master at technomancy. I am an ordinary mechanic, and you have already learned everything I have to teach you. In the next few days just focus on your training in the gym, I know that you have been spending more of your time there recently. You have even forsaken your first Schematic. It is not the choice I would have made, but I understand your reasoning. We orcs value strength and as a half orc you have even more to prove. Being a capable marksman as well as a mechanic will help you overcome the stigma of being a half orc as well as being male."

She nods as she spoke, her words turning from soft to firm the more she carried on. "For the next five days I do not want to see you again. I expect you to return on your last day a capable marksman. I do not expect you to be as good at that as you are at technomancy, but as long as you do not embarrass yourself I will be happy."
