Seed of Doubt
After a few moments, the hologram flickered to life, and there he was - Gilbert, as handsome as ever. But Beatrice's excitement turned to confusion as she heard another woman's voice in the background.
Beatrice's heart sank as she heard the woman's voice again, and she couldn't shake off her suspicion. "Who is that?" she asked, trying to sound casual but failing to mask the disappointment in her voice.
Gilbert's smile faltered for a moment before he replied, "Oh, that must be one of the maids. What is it, Beatrice, that makes you call me at this time of the hour?"
Beatrice relaxed a little, relieved that it wasn't another woman. But still, she couldn't help feeling suspicious. "Are you sure it's your maid?" she pressed on, eyeing Gilbert carefully.
There was something about that voice that screamed that she was someone more than just a maid. Beatrice couldn't help to felt that way, maybe it was just her gut feeling.
