She arrived at the training ground and the instant the emperor sighted her, a smirk formed on his slightly wrinkled face, causing Yennfer to feel some sort of disgust within her.
She ignored him and shifted his gaze to Luthiel, who was standing beside the crown prince as usual.
"Unchain her." The emperor's brother, Adolf, ordered and the guard behind Yennefer obediently unlocked the chains that chained her wrists.
Adolf stood up from his bronze-colored chair and walked towards a royal warrior who had a sword in his hand.
He snatched it from him and threw it at Yennefer, expecting her to catch it, but Yennefer, however, stood still and watched as the sword fell to the ground.
"Why didn't you catch it?" He asked, and Yennfer arched her brow at him.
"You expected me to catch it?" She answered his question with a question, and he nodded his head at her.
"Isn't that obvious?" He looked at her as though looking at a fool, and Yennefer couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle.
"Well, I am sorry I disappointed you. But you know, you could have handed that sword to me like a proper human being."
She said, completely disgusted in her heart at how badly these people treat women.
So badly! And without a doubt, she knows that the idiot is looking down on her.
Humph! She scoffed in her heart, and Adolf looked at her with a look of amusement emerging on his face.
"Well then, my lady. Apologies for my rudeness. " He smiled and walked towards her.
He picked up the sword and gave it to her with a grin on his face.
Yennefer scowled at him and snatched the sword from him.
She walked over and raised her eyebrows at him.
"So... who am I fighting?" She asked, and before Adolf could say a word, the emperor's voice resounded.
"Damon! You will be fighting Damon! "
He announced, and the Damon in question, who had just walked into the training ground with his sister, halted in surprise and shock.
"Me?" He asked, and the emperor nodded his head.
"Yes, you. It will be an honor to see your fighting skills, as I can already see the potential in you."
He replied, and Damon shifted his gaze to Yennefer. "And who is she?"
He asked, and the emperor chuckled softly.
"This is Yennefer Bellegard, the famous Gavaria Assassin. Yes, I managed to capture her after six years of constant trying."
He explained with a haughty expression on his face, and Damon, who honestly felt that to be weak, glanced at him with mockery in his eyes.
It took six years to capture a twenty-year-old girl.
He chuckled within himself and scrutinized Yennefer from head to toe.
Well, if he's, to be honest, she must really be a handful as he had heard so much about her, and not just that, he heard that she was a practitioner of magic as well. To put it another way, a sorceress.
She is quite feisty and wild, as he imagined.
A slight smile appeared on his face, and he turned to look at the emperor.
"Your majesty, I will have to say no to your proposition. I don't fight women. it's against my principles."
He explained, and the emperor arched his brow at him.
"What do you mean by 'you don't fight women?" He inquired, and Damon chuckled softly.
"Well you see, your majesty, in my country, Danavia, we men are meant to protect women and treasure them instead of putting them off in battle or fighting them."
"My parents taught me not to do that as well, so... it's against my principle and what I was taught, no matter how strong the woman is."
He explained, and the emperor, including Yennfer, Adolf, Williams, and Luthiel, gazed at him with their brows arched in speechlessness.
"Oh... I see. So let me get this straight, you guys look down on women. Is that it?"
Adolf asked, and Damon shook his head.
"No, no, that's not what I mean. What I mean is that we treasure women, so-"
"Well then, battle with her. She's not from your empire, is she?"
The emperor smiled and knowing that they wouldn't let this go, Damon fluttered his eyes and proceeded to grab a sword from one of the guards standing near him, but out of nowhere, Ayana walked out and snatched the sword before he could.
"My brother is right. In our country, women are treasured, so I am sorry to say, your highness, it's sick of you to try to force him to break his principles just for some fun."
"However, since you really want to be entertained, I will battle her on my brother's steed. Then it will be fair. I mean, I am a woman, so there is no problem at all."
She explained with a smile on her face, and Adolf narrowed his eyes at her.
He let out an annoyed breath and walked back to the chair on the emperor's left-hand side to sit down.
"Well then, begin."
