When I finally pulled back, dizzy and gasping, the words just started pouring out of my mouth. "I'm so sorry I misjudged you. Before I asked, I decided who and what you were, and that was really stupid and selfish. I'm sorry I caused you so much pain when I sent you."

Danica pushes a lock of hair out of my eyes. "You've already apologized and I've already forgiven you. There's no need to bring it up again."

I shake my head but the words keep coming. "Why do you freeze sometimes? Just when I kissed you and a few times before, you looked like you were willing not to move much. Do you still think it would scare me because—"

"I'm worried about that, yes. But that's not what I did, Willah."

I met her dark brown eyes, which I had just noticed had a gray ring around the iris. It's not as harsh as when everything about it changed, just a gray border instead of black. "Then what?" I'm asking.
