The Beginning of the End

The Current King of Lusindia is King Holland. He was a mighty king who has defended the kingdom against those who tried claim our land. He was the man admired by the men of this kingdom and even the neighboring countries. However there is another king who equals his might. His name is King Khalid of the desert kingdom of Bert. One time, the kingdom of Bert tried to conquer Lusindia. For years a battle waged on between the two countries. Until the damage become too big and the armies began to feel too tired that both kingdom had an agreement.

In order to stop the war, Princess Helen, the sister of king Holland got married to King Khalid while Princess Hajar, the Cousin of King Khalid was wedded to King Holland and was named Queen of Lusindia. The war was subdued and both kingdom have return to it's peaceful state. After a year, Queen Hajar got pregnant with a prince. The following year the first prince of Lusindia was born. He was named Prince Selim. But soon after he was born, the queen dies and so the prince grew up motherless. but the king remarried and after only a year, a new Queen was crowned. Her name was Queen Messan, she was lady from the house of Thoren, One of the Seven Duke of the kingdom. Following the coronation, a son was born and it was Prince Alfred II.

The two prince grew up together with prince Selim only two years older than prince Alfred. But the pressure of the palace was something else that after time and time of trials, the brothers grew apart. Soon the first prince, prince Selim was announced by the king as The Crown Prince. From there the tension began to grew even more intense and the princes grew even further. Then a piece was added and that made everything turn more hostile, that piece was my engagement with Prince Alfred.

My engagement to the second prince made everything worst. You see, the kingdom is ruled by the king but following the king's power are the Dukes and Duchesses. There are Seven houses of Dukes in our Kingdom, and I was the daughter of one of those dukes. I belong to the house of Herst, the most powerful of the seven and second only to the king. Because of my title as the daughter of Duke Gendry and Duchess Emilya, the power balance was disturbed. Prince Selim is only entitled with "Crown Prince" but The second prince, should he have married me, he'll have the power of the house of Herst. Who was backed by Four houses out of the seven Dukes. If we'd have marry, the supporters of the second prince will have the right to rally to the kingdom and entitle the prince as the crown prince. The king will be left to decide again.

The supporters of the crown prince did not like the progress of the second prince and so the tension grew even more. Far from the image of the Kingdom on the outside, the kingdom was splitting apart on the inside. It grew bigger and bigger until my family was attacked by unknown people who entered our house with cruelty and violence.

It was in the middle of the night, on the month Ithnis, when unknown group of people entered our place. They burned the house and killed my parents. I was able to run out of the house just in time and save my life. I watched my own house burn while my parents are still inside. Soon i was chased by the people who started everything and that's how i ended up at that forest. It took me a week to reach the forest on the outskirt Kars. During the run i'd eat bugs that i came across to, I'd drink puddles from the ground when i find no river to get water from and I'd sleep under the trees where cold would seep in on my skin. I thought i wouldn't survive.

The murder of my parents wasn't made public. But with everything that has happened i know for certain who wanted us gone. I came across a letter three days before that dreadful day. In that letter, it warned us about an eminent threat. It says:

"You're family will be used as a getaway plan. If you don't act now, great treason will befall on your name. Be wary of the prince, he shall be your greatest enemy".

It was written on a piece of parchment that was secretly folded inside a book that was gifted to me. The name of the sender wasn't written on the paper so i ignored it thinking that was only a prank. I realize it was real when it was too late.

Then a thought popped up in my head, there is only one person who'd want us gone. There's only one prince that sees us as his enemy and that's prince Selim. At first it was only a speculation but then following our family's affair, the second prince followed. Prince Alfred was on his way to the city of Thirmis when someone attacked his carriage. The prince went missing and was rumoured to have died. In just a matter of time the people recognized by the first prince's side as his enemies, all of them was taken care of. I was lucky to have escaped but thinking about it now, am i really? I lost my parents, the people i cherish the most in the world, in the hands of a man i only met once. Would you call that lucky?

I've heard no news about what happened to our house. Surely someone from my house is taking care of things right now. As for my fiance, I have no news of him either. I am far away from the capitol so any information is hard to acquire. I wanted to approach the Duke of Kars but that duke and the dukes after him has remained neutral from the power struggle in the kingdom ever since it was founded. That was the main reason why it was called the Free City of Kars. That was reason why no news has reached this city. They try to keep out any influence from the outside.

I am only staying here in this city for a few days. Hopefully, soon i will return to the Capitol. Right now I am weak so i have to find a way to strengthen myself.
