"I may be used to this apocalyptic world, but I will never get used to the innocent suffering. Not everyone deserves to suffer and die," Kael said through gritted teeth. He pulled the whip, causing the guard to stumble towards him, and then summoned a sword, cutting off the guard's neck cleanly.
Kael shook his hand, and the blood on the sword fell at the feet of the dead mother. The kids stopped crying and stared at Kael blankly. He moved closer to them, and they started shaking violently. Kael released a pitiful sigh, and tears welled up in his eyes. "God is like that. He has never been fair and never will be. Here, have a drink."
He produced two glasses of milk and extended his hands to the kids. They looked at each other and gulped down their saliva before reaching out their shaky hands to take the glasses, but they didn't even have the energy to hold them. There wasn't anything left in their bodies except skin and bones.
Kael closed his eyes for a moment and moved his hands, holding the glasses close to their mouths.
The kids started drinking the milk without taking a single breath. They drank the milk in one gulp. Kael wanted to take them with him, but he was in enemy territory, and it wasn't good to take them with him, so he said goodbye before moving further into the mine to search for Sareena's family members.
The kids looked at their mother and remembered her words: "There will come a day when God will take pity on us and send a savior to protect your lives. Follow that savior till you die."
"Savior," the little girl murmured while holding her mother's corpse, tears sliding down her skinny face.
Her elder brother nodded his head. "Savior." He slowly stood up and gently pulled his younger sister to her feet. Both of them looked at their mother for the last time and followed Kael with their shaky legs.
Since there was a distance between them, Kael didn't notice the kids following him. A young lady passed through the wall, looked at his back and at the kids who were slowly following him, her lips curling up as tears welled up in her eyes. The tear drops that fell from her eyes disappeared into the air before they touched the ground.
Kael heard loud voices and the sound of whipping, so he moved in the direction the sounds were coming from.

"Hehe, I heard that this low-life bastard's wife was fucked to death by our boss."
"Yeah, I also heard that she cried this low-life bastard's name till her last breath."
