chapter 30 Past Events

As soon as they were away from prying eyes, old man Wu immediately changed his expression into a playful one.

"Hahaha...all those listening would have definitely believed that we were at loggerheads with each other."

Xiao Luo had an unnatural expression on his face. He wanted to affirm old man Wu's words but his expression told another story.

The old man had pulled a surprise performance on him. He had been thinking that the old man was really angry before he came to understand his true intentions.

"Well your acting was so good that even I almost believed you. If only you weren't so exaggerated in demanding an explanation which is definitely not your style; I would have really duked it out with you. You could have at least warned me."

Old man Wu's temper was explosive to the extreme. Once angered he would chase you around like a maddened bull with a red face.

"Hahaha...whatever, I achieved the desired result and we are not fighting at the moment. So that can count as success."

These old men were both leaders of major sects of the Immortal faction. They weren't as easy to goad into attacking each other so easily. They had both easily deduced on their own that the rumor was most likely the handiwork of some common enemy to make them fight amongst themselves.

There was only one enemy that fit the bill perfectly and that was the Devil World. As both the sects followed the immortal cultivation techniques, they could be counted as an extension of the Immortal World on Earth and their relationship was very good especially because Xiao Luo and Wu Wei belonged to the same generation of cultivators and were particularly friendly with each other.

They were already on the same page yet to throw the Demon World off, they had to act antagonistically towards each other on the outside.

Both of them were aware of the recent movements of the Demon World and had been investigating them secretly but they wanted to show that they didn't have enough energy and time to spare in order to hamper their activities.

The rivalry between the Demon World and the Immortal World had been millennia old. The difference between the Demon World and the Immortal World was not a racial difference because there were several holy beasts among the Immortal World while there were several humans in the Demon World.

The main difference was the cultivation technique being practiced by the individual.

Even the cultivation stages for both the techniques were the same.

Immortal cultivation techniques slowly increased a cultivator's strength by absorbing the qi from heaven and earth until it reached the pinnacle. It was very stable and allowed the practitioners to be in perfect control of themselves at every moment.

Demonic cultivators needed to draw the same qi from others through indiscriminate massacres and immoral acts. Moreover the qi absorbed this way was highly impure and difficult to absorb. Forcibly consuming that qi resulted in faster progression between the stages but this kind of cultivation was extremely volatile and slightest deviation from the right path could cause the practitioners to fall into depravity and become bloodthirsty and mindless killing machines. It was the very reason that Devil World practitioners were shunned by the rest of the world, especially the Immortal World.

During the ancient times many battles were fought between the Immortal and Devil practitioners and that enmity had sustained through the ages.

The most prominent of those battles was the battle that made the Earth part of the Immortal World and forced the forces of the Devil World to retreat back to their world, never to step foot on Earth ever again.

The unsealing of Yin was the greatest desire of the demonic cultivators and had been passed down to the next generations as the only way to break the status quo and for enabling the demonic cultivators to invade Earth in full force all over again.

As they were busy speculating among themselves the next move of the Devil World, they heard some signs of a scuffle or an argument taking place in the distance. Both of them still had their funny bone, so they went together to spectate from a distance.

They soon reached the vantage point as it was a little further from Old man Wu's residence. The voices that they had heard previously had been transmitted over the long distance so they were considerably higher on the decibel scale.

World-serpent could be seen at the head of the horde negotiating with the person that was being chased.

"You better think carefully. You can still return and work directly under the higher ups. You won't even have to go through me to reach them. How do you like the sound of that?"

"My answer is still 'No'."

"Don't be so stubborn and neglect a heaven-sent opportunity. Believe me you will come to regret it. Well you won't be alive to regret anything soon anyways." World-serpent sneered at him and indicated for its followers to pick up the pace.

The horde soon caught up to him and started launching all their most fatal attacks. Their target retaliated and launched attacks with all his remaining qi and the attacks were indiscriminate. Many demonic spiders and toads perished upon the single swing of his sabre. His golden sabre seemed to contain the force of the whole universe. After this last move the person was out of moves.

Upon reaching the old man Wu erupted more furiously than any volcanic eruption. His aura went berserk and even Xiao Luo was thrown backwards by the sheer force of his aura. Seeing that the old man Wu was about to charge over in his anger, Xiao Luo held him back by releasing his own aura as well.

After Wu Wei calmed down, Xiao Luo breathed heavily and let go of him before turning his attention back towards the battle scene again.

He saw that there was a horde of demons who were chasing after someone with murderous killing intent. This person was breathing heavily and was covered in numerous injuries from head to toe. He was bloody all over and was heavily panting which indicated that the chase had been ongoing for a long period of time.

He felt that the person running away from the demonic horde had seemed somewhat familiar. As soon as that thought appeared in his mind, Xiao Luo knew who that person was. It was Wu Ming, old man Wu's only son.

"Old man Wu, isn't that your…"

"That bastard has nothing to do with me. My son has long since died."

Wu Wei was infuriated to the very extreme. If Xiao Luo had not stopped him earlier, he might even have killed Wu Ming in his fit of fury.

Now that Xia Luo knew what Wu Wei had been about to do, he thanked all the heavens there were, so that he had been able to stop him from doing the unthinkable.

"Wu Wei, think it through. No matter what mistakes he has committed, he is still your son. You can't let him die at the hands of these wretches especially when he is coming to you for help. Seeing the route that Wu Ming is taking, I am a hundred percent sure that he is coming to you for help. Being a father, no matter how distant, you are duty bound to help your son."

Xiao Luo had said this all in a single breath in order to convince Wu Wei as soon as possible in order to save Wu Ming timely.

Listening to Xiao Luo and seeing his son's plight, Wu Wei's heart softened and he moved towards Wu Ming at breakneck speed.

Wu Wei landed right between the demonic horde and Wu Ming. The horde consisted of venomous spiders, human faced spiders, blood centipedes, sandworms, venomous toads and flame lizards, all of whom had been renowned masters of the demon world.
