An Opportunity

The next day

Dan stood in front of a ten-story tall office building with blue glass windows all over it. It looked quite good and it had to as it was one of the most important buildings in the whole of Zyron city.

This building actually had no name. People just called it The Mall. This building housed various shops which sold things that were procured by real metahumans from the wild. They bought it off the metahumans in bulk and sold it to the public after some processing.

The mall was like a better version of the market that Dan had visited yesterday.

Dan could feel his heart throb as he entered the building. This was where the true metahumans did their business. So there was a good chance that any random person inside the mall could be a metahuman.

Dan arrived inside to see two rows of shops just like in the market but here the floor wasn't a road but a shiny marble floor. The shops had glass windows and Dan could see people inside talking and browsing through the items in the shops. The first floor only had normal daily necessities which was why there were quite a lot of people.

Dan walked straight towards the stairs leading to the second floor. He had no business here.

Dan found a shop dealing with herbs on the second floor and entered inside, pushing the glass door. The inside was like every other shop with shelves full of pictures of herbs and their prices.

He walked up to the shelves and let his eyes roam around. He found the herb he was looking for which was the strength herb. It was priced at around 1200 Zemos.

Dan let out a small smile and thought, "Even if they bought it for 1000 a piece, I'll still make around 8000."

Dan walked up to the counter where a beautiful woman sat, doing something on the computer in front of her.

"How can I help you? "The woman asked professionally and smiled at Dan.

Dan smiled back and said, "I would like to sell some herbs. "

"Oh. What herb? "

"Strength herb. " Dan replied and took out a small bag from his pocket.

The woman let out a surprised gasp and then covered her mouth with her palm. "I'm so sorry. Please give me the herbs so that I can verify them with the expert appraiser in the back room. "

Dan nodded and handed her the bag, weirded out by her reaction. But he didn't think much of it. Dan knew these kinds of women. They were too much drama.

Dan stood there, tapping his fingers on the counter, waiting for the woman to get back.

And a couple of minutes later, she was back. But this time with a serious look on her face."The manager would like to meet you. "

She said and gestured for him to follow her. Dan was surprised and stood there as he watched her enter the backroom.

"What the fuck? " Dan muttered. But followed the woman. "Why would the manager want to meet me? Or were the strength herbs not up to the standards here? "

Many thoughts ran through Dan's head as he entered the backroom. Dan peeked inside to see a room with a large table on the far wall and a couch with a small table in the middle of the room.

And on that couch, a middle-aged man sat while sipping on something in a small cup. The woman sat in front of the man.

Both of them turned to Dan as soon as he entered and the man smiled. "Come on. Sit, my friend. " He said as he pointed at the space beside the woman from the counter.

Dan walked up to them and plopped himself on the couch. "So. Why did you call me here? " Dan asked getting straight to the point. He was just here to sell some herbs. There was no reason to call him here.

"Very straightforward and confident. A promising young man. " The middle-aged man babbled on which Dan wasn't interested in. "Well. I'll get straight to the point too then. Can you tell me where you got these herbs? " He asked pointing at the herbs on the small table in front of them.

Dan was even more surprised and actually a bit confused now." Why? " He asked.

The man again let out a small smile and said, "You see. The strength herb has been getting rare as they have almost been plucked clean around the city and all the herbs that the metahumans bring are just the normal Tej herbs. So their demand has been increasing but there is no supply. And you bringing in 8 strength herbs made me wonder where you got these or did you filter them by yourself. "

"Strength herb is getting rarer? " Dan thought. As he digested the news, a plan formed in his mind. Maybe, he shouldn't even go on a trip in the wild and risk his life. Maybe and just maybe, he could earn some good money inside the city.
