Surprise

Layla was impatiently waiting for Lani to get ready so that they can leave for school.

"My singing goddess, you should cut off your long hair." Layla couldn't help but complain seeing her taking time to do her hair. As much as those waist-long black hair looks beautiful, they proved themselves trouble too. Well, Layla was kinda spared from this trouble as her hair only covers half of her back.

With another break-recording speed, Lani was ready to leave. "I'm ready, my singing disaster, we can leave at any time."

While these two girls were busy complaining and teasing each other, Opal was sitting quietly, waiting for them to finish or that's what they both thought. In reality, Opal was busy thinking about last night's events when she showed her newly bought things. It wasn't the first time she, the second miss of Jin family, showed off her things but this time it was a little different. Lani was delighted, her eyes were filled with excitement and envy but there was never any malicious thought or feeling.

Growing up, Opal has met many girls who couldn't help but have malicious gazes on her belongings. She has seen many who try not to show their true thoughts on their faces but couldn't also control their dark heart. She remembered once her friend tried to steal…

"Opal! Opal!" They called her, waking her from a stupor.

"Huh… yes"

"Where are you lost? Come on, let's go"

"Aye" She grabbed her bag and started chasing them.

…...

-Student Council Room-

"Have you got the answers yet?" Ryan asked who was seated in his chair.

"Opal refused. And, Caleb has yet to answer." He nodded in understanding.

"What will you do if he refuses too?" Lani asked.

"I'll compromise and approach someone else." Layla sighed. This suspense was a killer for her. She wanted to know the answer so that she could decide her next move as soon as possible.

*tringg… *tringg…

Ryan picked the ringing telephone. "Hello"

"Ryan, come to my office."

*toot*

After receiving the order, he stood up to leave for the principal's office. "Sir is calling for me."

They nodded. "Anything else." He shook his head. He only told him to come without any other instructions.

After he left, girls entered in a gossip mode "What do you think, why did he call?"

"Don't know. There's no event recently too" Layla shrugged while looking at the list pasted by Lani on the display board.

"You know what, Caleb and Opal too receive some love letters," Lani informed changing the topic.

She snorted before asking "Don't you receive any?"

Lani shook her head "Prez warned them. So there is almost no one to mess with." Her smile was bright.

Layla looked at her with an unbelievable expression. Opal touched her face "W-What!?"

"Nothing, I'm... I just remembered the number of letters Zou Haoran received. It was kinda scary as it reminded me of the time when I received them." She scoffed, gaining her demeanor.

While these girls were busy talking, Ryan was returning to the student council room. But he wasn't alone. Zou Haoran was also with him.

Yesterday, Zou Haoran told Caleb that he wanted to be part of the student council. In the morning, he went to Dr. Du and asked him to give the vacant position. He even said that if Mr. Du didn't do so then he will compete against the student council to prove his worth.

On reaching near the door of the room, Zou Haoran noticed a box attached to the wall on one side. "Complaint/Suggestion box" was written on it, making it easier to guess its purpose. When he entered, he saw a long table in the center filled with papers, and two chairs were placed there. There were two computers on both sides and a printer in a corner. The wall in front of him had a board on it. The board was covered with various sheets containing some information.

Then, his gaze fell on a girl who was also looking at him. Her legs were long. She was thin yet had enough flesh to make anyone gulp at her budding youth. Her face was unforgettable, easy to engrave in memory. When her eyelids fell, she was aesthetic. But her beautiful face wasn't her most charming feature but it was her eyes. Her gaze wasn't gentle but sharp which could make you kneel in front of her or make you chase her. She was a cynosure.

He himself had no idea as to why he was thinking so but his mind couldn't help it. He saw she was looking at him with confusion, irritation, and displeasure. He chuckled inwardly.

When he was checking her, Layla was also doing the same. And thinking through, she came up with a conclusion that "his face is a synonym of trouble."

"Vice-president Layla, from now on Zou Haoran is your secretary" Ryan informed them, dropping a bomb.

"WHAT!!?"

"Principal's order."

"But—"

"No buts" Ryan said sternly. 'Sometimes she's just too headstrong.' She closed her mouth with displeasure.

"If you doubt my abilities, I can challenge you guys. How about I start from the president?" Zou Haoran interrupted her mood. He was smiling proudly.

'Great! Now he wants to drag everyone with me.' Now. she can't even show her displeasure.

She took a deep breath and said with a smile, "Welcome to the student council. My name is Layla Chen, the vice-president." She had no plans to cause any trouble to anyone else.

"Pleasure to meet you" He replied, maintaining that irritating smile.

She wanted to scoff at his words. 'He didn't say anything good when I thanked him.' She pulled her mobile out, "Give me your contact details."

"Is it safe to do so?" He teased her. His meaning was simple: girls write me love letters and try to look for ways to confess to me. Are you sure you have no other motives?

He was definitely trying to pick a fight with her.

"I would like a report from my secretary on the topic 'ways to contact without mobile'" she said sternly.

Looks like the joke has gone in the wrong direction, "ahem, I was confirming if there's some issue."

"So… contact details or report." She said without backing down, showing her authority.

Haughty. That was the one word that came to his mind at that moment.

Meanwhile, Lani and Ryan were watching silently. They couldn't believe these two forgot their presence quite early. They were worried for the peace of the future, thinking how will these two get along when they'll have to work with each other.

"Here's my details." He gave her the number. She also added him to a chat group called "The student council." As the name suggests this was for the members.
