CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
This time, I had grandly decided that doors were overrated, so I peeked in through the window. "psst!" I said, and the duke spun around. Wrong way. "No, idiot! Are you deaf! Turn around!" I hissed, and the duke spun around again to jump at the hanging from the window. "This is the third floor!" The duke said, appalled. I smiled. "That's not any of your business. Anyway, I heard I have to take classes."
"Of course. For an uneducated commoner like you, it will be even harder-" the duke said, but I held out a piece of paper. "Can you add a clause to the contract? If i can pass the graduation test, Ill skip all the classes directly. If not, ill take the classes like a normal person." I said. The duke started laughing. Like a madman. "People have to study multiple years for that test! Do you really think you can pass it?" He said, laughing, and I checked my nails, uninterested. "Of course I can."
And this was because of the thing that had helped the original Cordelia. Unlike me, who had suffered throug the entire school system, Cordelia had been blissfully uneducated because she was an orphan (or something like one). When faced with the test, she spent hours looking in the library and eventually stumbled upon a journal with the answers to all the tests. Every. Single. One.
And, like a good saint, she burned it and decided to study on her own. Come on! You stupid goody two-shoes! Why'd you burn it?! The comments had been pretty mad too, but the difference this time was that I was going to bag the test, using the journal.
How despicable, Apostle. Bog said, and I rolled my eyes. "Well, it's there for a reason. It would be worse if no one used it." I said, taking out the book I had gotten from the library. "I can use my notes on it, right?" I said opening up the book to showcase scraggly but still readable writing. "Good luck. This test doesn't cover things found in the library." the duke scoffed, and i internally raised my arms in victory. The duke opened a drawer to take out a bunch of papers.
"Here. Get started." He said, smiling cryptically.
