I realized I had called out to the girl,

who came to a sudden halt.

She didn't say anything,

nor did she lift her head.

"Are you lost?

I asked her.

Silence.

"Where are your parents?"

I asked again.

She lifts her head,

turning her head slightly.

Our eyes met.
