Secrets (2)

As Saber took a step forward, he felt the hair on his skin began to rise. It wasn't only his, the princess also felt the air around them was getting pulled forward.

"We're in a different space, aren't we?" Saber asked Alice for confirmation, which she nodded her head as a response.

When they turned their head around, the entrance they came in began to blur. This deeply confirmed Saber's suspicion that they were in a distorted space outside the world.

The mana and air around them were dense. If it weren't for them being an expert at using mana, they would have no choice but to turn back as the place felt suffocating.

"We should probably not waste more time, Sir Romeo..."

Saber nodded his head, pushing the princess' wheelchair forward as they moved.

"Kuurr..."

It took them a few seconds to adjust to their new surroundings. And when that happened, Saber decided to start a conversation.

"Your Highness, I've been wanting to ask you this question."

he spoke up, sounding curious.

"...What is it?"

"Does the others know the real origin of your mother?"

The princess flinched and glanced at him upon hearing his question. Her clutch on her wheelchair tightened as she bit her lower lips before finally opening her mouth.

"How did you know about her?"

"...She told me."

Saber straight up made a lie.

The princess looked forward as she thought about what he said. She sighed deeply in relief before responding, "I see... As for your question, not all. Only trusted few like my maid and the maid that guided you here. There are others, but they're not in this kingdom as of the moment."

Soon enough, they finally reached the end after five minutes of walking.

White wall, white table and white chair. Everything inside the room was white. It was clean; no specs of dust were visible, as if it was carefully maintained by some unknown entity.

The secret room they've entered wasn't fairly big. However, it exclude an eery feeling to the two.

Creek~!

The wheelchair creaked as Saber pushed forward. They both took their time to scrutinize their surroundings, even to the point they touched the walls to figure out what it was made from.

"Concrete...? No. It's too colorless and transparent."

Quartz, perhaps?

Saber pondered to himself. On the white table before them, two books were sealed off inside a locked glass container. Beside it, two keys were placed on the table. One of them looked rusted, while the other looked transparent like a glass.

The princess reached out to open one of them, then raised her head to look at Saber. He took the transparent key and opened opened the other one to take the book.

He glanced at the book he was holding before handling it to the princess.

"Sir Romeo... let's head out."

He nodded his head.

...

..

.

After they got out of the secret room, Saber laid down on the king's bed, while Alice observed him quietly. She noticed his body relaxing, his belly rising as he breathe.

"...What is it?"

When he noticed the princess' gaze, Saber raised his head slightly to glance at her direction.

Their eyes locked each other. Alice was silent for a while before she finally decided to speak up, "...Sir Romeo?" She called out for him.

"Romeo is fine."

"... Romeo, can you really heal my legs?" Her tone sounded awkward, combined with hopefulness in her gaze. Although she thought that the possibility of him lying was still there, she still wanted to take the chance.

Finally, Saber raised his head to look at her. "Correction, 'Heal' is not the right word to call it. More like make them work," He lazily gestured his hands as he spoke.

Confused by what he said, Alice couldn't help but tilt her head and ask, "What do you mean?"

Saber sat up and stretched his arms up as he spoke, "When I found out about you being a half blood, I thought that 'I had to change some plans'. Honestly, there was no way to treat your legs to begin with."

The princess voice began to crack upon his revelation. She bit her lower lips, turned her gaze away but still kept her ears and listened to him.

"...then?"

Saber went quiet

for a couple of moment, standing up as he approached her. This made Alice feel more worried, her face turning pale as her jaw opened slightly.

"You're planning to cut them off...?"

Saber flicked her head.

"Don't get the wrong idea, idiot! I'm not going to replace your legs with prosthetics." He says to her, chuckling at the princess reaction.

Alice covered her forehead with both hands, pouting her lips cutely as she glared at him.

Though, it was noticable that the glare wasn't that sharp.

"What are you planning then?" She asked curiously, her anxiety slowly vanishing thanks to the flick.

"You have a huge amount of mana inside you, yeah?"

"Mmm! And...?"

Saber went behind her and stroked her head.

"You'll find out soon... eventually."

Though confused, Alice tilted her head up as Saber pushed her wheelchair. She saw the gentle smile plastered on his face, her eyes interlocking with his again.

...Ba-dump!

Alice opened her mouth slightly as if wanting to say something, but stopped herself.

Saber noticed this and leaned down to her level, his ear an inch away from her face.

"...It's nothing."

The princess spoke with a voice similar to a whisper. She refocused her gaze forward, her expression returning from it's usual aloof.

As they went out of the room, her maid, Jenna, noticed them.

She approached their direction, planning to greet the princess.

But...

"...Your Highness?"

Although her expression was cold, Jenna noticed the slight gentleness on Alice's eyes.

Her ears were red too.

"...What happened to between you two?"
