Gon and the guy named Guido stood in the ring. The match started with Guido using spinning tops infused with Nen. Gon activated his (Ren) when the other guy threw the tops into the ring. Jett was only shaking his head on the benches; he had told Gon before that in a Nen battle, the moment you meet your opponent, you have to activate your Nen. Gon is still too trusting of people; Jett thought the only way for Gon to learn not to trust people so much was to lose someone close to him. Jett certainly wasn't going to be that person.
Gon was in the ring, and although his face was passive, his heart beat faster as he stood there. He had battled on the Hunter exam, but they weren't anything like now. His understanding of Nen was much higher than before; he was excited to fight. He wanted to know how a Nen battle differed from a standard battle.
The tops dance around the square ring, trying to hit Gon as he dodges. As one top danced around another, hitting each other, a top went past Gon, hitting another top on his back, sending the hidden top at Gon's back. To everyone around, it looked like the top would hit Gon. Still, just as it was about to hit him, the image of Jett appeared behind him and said to him, "You let your guard down again," Gon, with great athleticism, jumped up, creating an ark as he dodged backward, avoiding the top at the last minute.
"That's what I'm talking about Gon," Jett said in the stands, Killua had a smile on his face as he watched Gon. Gon also glanced at the stands and saw Jett smiling at him. It made his heart quicken a bit faster, but with that glance, he remembered something Jett had told him.
"Gon, you're an Enhancer. Aside from creating your own Hatzu, you don't need to think about some complicated plan; all you have to do is gather your Nen to the limit and punch/Kick as I taught you," Gon thought with a decisive look in his eyes. He Jumped back into a corner of the ring.
"Idiot!" Killua said next to Jett.
"He cornered himself," Wing said, sitting next to Killua.
"Is he going to be okay!?" Zushi exclaims.
Just as everyone thought that Gon was done for, Gon took a karate form. His Nen exploded, gathering on both his hands and feet. As the tops came closer Gon just waited, as if in a trance Gon punched and kicked all the tops shattering them all into splinters. Sure, Gon was having difficulty moving around because of all the tops, but he also hadn't used the flash step. The tops also moved fast, and Gon had a hard time keeping track of them, but speed didn't matter anymore when all the tops were coming at you from one direction.
Having dealt with all the tops and before Guido could create more, Gon finally used his flash step, appearing right in front of surprised Guido. In a panic, before Gon could punch him, Guido started to spin rapidly. As Gon punched him, the inertia of the spin sent Gon's fist to the side; Guido then hit him, sending Gon flying across the ring. Gon steadied himself in mid-flight by touching the ring and doing back flips. Without stopping, Gon jumps into the air. As if doing a roundhouse kick in the air, Gon was about to hit Guido, who was still spinning.
"Ha-ha boy your moves are too big, you have no experience in a fight," Guido said mocking Gon. Guido dodged to the side, avoiding Gon's leg. Guido was expecting Gon to land and then attack him again. Gon's leg landed on the ring, what Guido was expecting to happen didn't, what happened was the ring exploded chunks of it lifting into the air taking Guido along. Gon jumped into the air, stepping on a flying part of the ring that took him above Guido.
"Ten thousand Brick fist!" Gon shouted, punching Guido in the stomach. Guido spun, already having lost its momentum. It was one of the moves Jett had been teaching Gon. It sent all the Nen on the fist, creating a shock wave through the body, the force sending people flying. The fishman karate was a great martial art for Gon, who was an Enhancer. Tsunade's fighting was also good for Gon, so Jett taught him Tsunade's techniques.
As if staged, the piece of rock Guido had been standing on landed back on the ring, fitting perfectly into the part it had broken off from, only for the ring to get even more destroyed seconds later. Gon landed on the destroyed ring with one leg softly touching, hardly making a sound. The audience was quiet; no sound could be heard until they all exploded with cheers.
"Whaaa!"
"Ladies and gentlemen, this had to be one of the most incredible fights you have ever witnessed!" the commentator shouted over the crowd.
"The winner by knockout, Gon!" shouted the referee.
Jett, Killua, and Zushi congratulated Gon on his win. The next day would be Jett and Killua's fights. Jett was standing next to the guy with only one arm the following day. His name was Sadaso; Jett couldn't feel any threat from him. It wasn't that he underestimated him, but compared to other people he had met so far, the danger he sensed from him was far less.
Sadaso used Nen to compensate for his missing hand; he used it to attack using (IN), but Jett quickly solved that by using (Gyo). Jett was using Sadaso to practice his Nen while he grasped all the basic Nen techniques. He needed to work on all the advanced techniques. He also wanted to practice a new technique he tried to come up with after he learned to use the flash step.
The concept behind the flash step was to use incredible speed to appear on another spot. The force of that speed would dissipate into the ground without harming the user. Jett thought of using it this way: Instead of distributing the force of the speed back into the ground, what if he applied that force to attack someone by redirecting it into their body? He was planning to call this technique the Kinetic Step.
The reason was the vibrations of the energy as it left the body. But the name was only a thought. After having experimented with a few things, Jett didn't linger with the fight, and Flash stepped in front of Sadaso, punched him, and knocked him out. Killua's fight was faster. His opponent was using electrified whips to attack. True to a good train assassin, Killua was resistant to electrocution. After faking that he would electrocute the guy with his whips, the wheelchair guy fainted.
The part of Gon's fight differed from the original story, although the later storyline went the same way, with only a few things different. In the original story, Sadaso used Zushi to try fighting Gon, this time they try to use him to make them lose on purpose. It didn't go as Sadaso planned, this time the one who found Sadaso was Jett. Unlike Killua, an assassin, Jett did not let Sadaso and the wheelchair guy go. He had a license to kill, literally. Jett didn't take lightly to other people threatening people he cared about. Even if they weren't harmful, after cutting off their heads and leaving their corpse in a dark alley, Jett took Zushi and went searching for Wing.
A few weeks passed, and Jett was training with Gon and Killua. At some point, Zushi had also joined in. Jett didn't mind. Wing had also come along and instructed them on using Nen. All three of them already knew what he was teaching them. Wing did try to find out how Jett knew of Nen, but Jett didn't answer.
The next day, they found out that Hisoka was fighting. Wing suggested watching the match to Gon if he was planning on challenging Hisoka. Jett also thought it was a good idea. Gon had a different idea. He didn't want to know about Hisoka until he fought him. Jett punched Gon after hearing this. It made him mad. It was a stupid thing to say and do.
Jett forcefully drags Gon to watch Hisoka's match, not even caring when Gon gives him that look that would have convinced most people. Jett wasn't some idiot who let emotions dictate his actions. Gon had been ready to argue, but before he could say anything, Jett said they should fight. If Gon won he could do whatever he wanted, if Jett won they would go and watch the match.
Gon had accepted those conditions, and when the match started between them, he thought he could win. Jett showed him differently. As soon as they started, Jett used Zetsu to disappear while at the same time using a flash step so Gon would lose track of him. Jett's plan worked. He appeared in front of Gon and punched Gon on the chin, winning the match.
Just like they promised they would watch Hisoka's match, Gon was upset but kept his promises. Gon learn a lot from watching Hisoka fight.
