“Why were you spying on us?” Cato demanded again. The confidence creeping back into his voice. “What do you want with me?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” Eithne replied, her fingers prancing across Cato’s chest. He moved her hand away. He wouldn’t drop his guard here. “You’re no ordinary Roman. Boudicca sees it as well.”

Cato could tell she was probing him, waiting to see how he would react. She hadn’t heard much then, he thought to himself. Just enough to make him think she did. She frowned.

“You’re no fun,” Eithne actually sounded disappointed. “Many relish the thought of being with me like this.”

“Many in this camp don’t seem t be of that opinion,” Cato retorted.

“Ooh,” Eithne mocked sensitivity, overshadowed with another flash of that sly smile. “You have a quick wit as well. Then I guess we go on to business.”
