Prologue

Tokonosu University~

The sun was starting to peek, slowly lighting the world with its warmth. Sakura trees lined beside the paths, giving off a fantastical view. Students were just starting to wake up to start their morning activities.

At this time, a lone young man can be seen jogging while admiring the beautiful sight. His long light auburn hair framing his handsome face swayed along the wind. His clothes were simple; sneakers, joggers, a white tee, and a hoodie on top.

"To think it would happen to me..." He sighed, feeling surreal.

That feeling of awe remained after what happened last night. What should have been a normal night for Shun became something else. It happened instantly without notice, he suddenly remembered his previous life.

But the experience doesn't stop there, while he was still reeling in the feeling of suddenly remembering his previous life, he got a so-called cheat. It was a simple one, it let him enter a virtual world based on a game he loved in his previous life.

"Though isn't it unnecessary to give me that cheat?" He mutters as he jogged. "Sure, I enjoy playing it but the other functions seem unnecessary to me. It's not like I can just sell gold bars carelessly for money, I will surely get in trouble. Or worse, the gold market will collapse if I do so."

Thinking about it, Shun sighed helplessly. His cheat has other functions other than being able to play. He could take out in-game items into the real world though he has a weight limit.

"No, actually I can get free food so I guess it's okay," He shrugged. He didn't dwell on the subject for longer and continued his morning jog before going back to the dormitory.

.....

The next day~

*Beep!* *Beep!*

"5 more minutes..." Shun murmured with half-closed eyes as he tapped on his alarm clock with trained precision. After that, he continued sleeping.

"Oh shit! I'm gonna be late!"

Shun who woke up late after ignoring his alarm clock was now hurrying to change his clothes. After getting changed, he got his bag and ran out of the room.

'9:25' He noted after glancing at his watch. 'It's doable!'

While running, he suddenly noticed something off. The dorm matron would have scolded him after seeing him running in the hallway but she was nowhere to be found. The other staff too, were nowhere to be found.

The whole dorm was strangely quiet with no one in sight. At this time, he would have seen many people walking around.

'Is there an event I didn't know?'

Shun stopped running and walked while surveying the place. After going down to the first floor, he noticed some dorm rooms had their doors left open but still quiet. When he peeked inside one of the rooms, he saw no one inside.

The feeling that something was wrong got stronger. He carefully walked around and as he neared the entrance, the feeling intensified. Then he saw it, the carnage happening outside the dorm.

Students, no, those things were eating on bodies. Blood was splattered all over the ground and innards as well. The scene was straight out of a horror thriller zombie movie.

"Shi–" He was about to curse out loud but immediately covered his mouth. He then took a deep breath to calm himself whilst slowly walking away from the entrance. Luckily, the glass door was closed off.

"First, reincarnation with a cheat, and now zombie apocalypse...?" Shun felt it was too coincidental. "Am I getting trolled by some higher entity?"

However, he quickly shook off those unnecessary thoughts. For now, his goal would be survival.

"There should be some food at the dorm pantry," He quickly got on the move. The pantry was where the staff would get food they cooked for their everyday meal. It would be replenished every first week of the month. It just got replenished a few days ago so there should be many food there.

He got the key to the pantry behind the front desk and then headed to the pantry. It was located near the stairs going to the second floor. Arriving at the pantry, he opened it quickly and got non-perishable food. He stuffed them into his bag after removing unnecessary stuff from it like books and such. Although he can certainly get food through his cheat, why would he pass a nearby food supply?

"This should last for a while," He stared at his half-full bag. He didn't fill it as he still needs something else. "Next is the first aid kit in my room. The weapons...alright, that should do it."

He stood up and locked the pantry again before stuffing the key in his pocket. Just in case he returns here, he can get the rest later on.

"Haa...if only my inventory works both ways," He lamented. His inventory only works one way. He can pull something from it in the real world but can't put anything inside. Though in the game it still works perfectly fine.

He didn't stay for long and went back to his room on the second floor. He then grabbed a case under his bed and opened it. Inside was his recurve bow, multiple arrows, and a standard Ka-Bar army knife in a sheath.

"It was such a pain to go through multiple processes but it seemed worth it now." He sighed with emotion. He remembered the tedious things he needed to do to buy these legally with Japan's strict laws in place. Luckily, with the power of money, all was resolved.

Why does he have a bow, you may ask? It was for a hobby and occasional hunting. He even bought extra arrows since he had too little of them at the start.

"Time to escape from this place..."

He steeled himself as he glanced outside the window and saw the carnage below. He reaffirmed his resolve, he would surely survive this apocalypse and thrive through any means.

AN: And that's for the prologue. Before we move on, I must address some key points.

Is this a harem? Initially when I started to plan for this – No. Then I changed my mind after deliberation. However, I'm leaning on a small harem rather than a large one since I can manage it more easily.

Is he going to be powerful? Yes, at the start though, it will be within human limits.

Is his cheat overpowered? Yes and No, I won't reveal much but in an apocalyptic world, it will be extremely helpful. But keep in mind, it also has restrictions and it can also become a double edged weapon with one wrong move.

What about the world? It's main world is of course, High School of the Dead. But its not alone, it will be a mixed of three zombie series I discovered. And expect the unexpected later on as we move on with the plot.

What about updates? There will be no fixed updates since I am a university student. However, I will try to update as much as I can.

Please leave comments. One thing authors in this platform encounter is the problem of low comments per chater. Whether you like the chapter or not, please comment on it. It helps us keep motivated and it gives a sense of accomplishment. Honestly, the number of comments in a fanfic can affect an author's motivation to continue or drop a project they're working on. Also don't just comment – Thank you for the chapter. Although it seems like appreciation, it feels lackluster. Instead, point out our mistakes and tell your opinion so we can improve.

What to expect? Expect close similarities to canon with some slight changes since he didn't get transported directly so minimal butterfly effect. The start will mostly be a way to introduce concepts and characters before the true start so like a long prologue.

Also, this is a test project and I will upload up to 10 chapters first and see if it is worth continuing. Otherwise, I'll discard this and work on other projects or focus on university.

That's all, thank you and sorry for the rant.
