Chapter 36

“Amore, you must feed to be at your full strength,” Rowan’s mother, Eva insisted. There were a few servants behind her, each of them bent at the waist, offering their wrists voluntarily.

“I’m not hungry. Leave me be,” Rowan replied, trying to focus on the list of tasks given to him. Mainly it consisted of answering blessings from the villagers and maintaining the boundary between the Romano family and Vivace family.

The Vivace’s were chomping at the bit for any opportunity to jump to power. Rowan knew it was important to keep up appearances, but it was difficult. It had been several days since Astrid was sent back to Portland.

He would have told her his secrets eventually, but not like that.

Claude vanished after Rowan found him trying to feed off of Astrid. Just the memory made him angry. Rowan was banging on the door, and he could hear Claude inside. He didn’t knock down the door until he heard Astrid scream.
