Getting Kicked Out

Instead of living up to that hope, I remained silent, much to her disappointment; after all, this was a question I did not have an answer to, no to be more exact, it was a question I did not want to be brought up or even think about it.

Deep down, I knew that this was a problem I would need to think about sooner or later.

'Is there any good left within me?' I thought, reminiscing the uncorrupted memories of my past, thinking to myself, 'Who my I really? Am I a good person or a bad person?'

"kekek, times up!" the voice of the Primordial Demon rang in the surrounding like a doomsday bell.

'So soon?' I thought with a panicked expression on my face. Wait, something doesn't add up, I realised as I counted the number of meals Samantha has eaten.

'…6, 7, 8, she has only eaten eight meals!' I realised and rebutted Primordial Demon. "Wait! Based on the number of meals the girl has eaten, it has only been approximately about the middle of the second day!"

"kekek, well, I don't care what time you use, but in my time, this is the 3rd day, and I am kicking you out", laughed Primordial Demon as his booming voice surrounded all around me like someone rang a bell tower while I was still inside it.

With us disorientated, I felt a hard kick on my back as I was sent flying out of the miasma and into the light after ten thousand years.

Seeing the sun for the first time in ten thousand years sort of made me afraid of it.

No, I was ashamed to even come out into the sun as I quickly used the hood on my robes to cover myself, shading and hiding me away from the sun.

Feeling the intense rays of light on my exposed skeleton, though there was no damage on them, it felt like they were burning as if the sun was trying to purge its nemesis away.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" a familiar feminine scream was heard above while I was giving the sun a feel for the longest time.

Turning my head in the direction of the voice, I see a familiar figure in the air coming straight down at me with lightning speed.

I immediately moved to the side, using my fast reflexes to avoid colliding with her. However, I misjudged the place of her landing, which resulted in her still slamming into me upon impact as I was flung back to the ground with her on top of me.

"Oof, despite your looks, you are heavier than I thought", I said, lying on the ground, feeling her body weighing on me.

Hearing my words, Samantha immediately got up and glared at me with an angry pout.

"Hmph!" and she walked away.

Seeing that she was annoyed by something- most likely me, I decided to leave her alone for a moment and surveyed the surrounding.

I looked around this charred black ground with unnatural terrain formation as if a long-standing battle had been going on in this place for thousands of years, ravaging the land and turning it into an unliveable habitat.

"where are we?" I muttered under my breath, shocked to see such a war-torn place before my eyes.

"War continent. It is only when you see for yourself would you truly understand the horrors that have been going on," replied Samantha in a solemn voice, back-facing me, clearly still unhappy with me for some reason.

"This is why I said that the damages you have inflicted aren't as bad as now…" muttered Samantha under her breath with a hint of sadness in her voice.

As I thought back of the damages I made and compared them with the damages I am now seeing, I realised that what I have done is indeed lesser but more widespread afterall although most of the damages were in the Holy Continent, there was some damage spread out to other places due to the original sin of greed.

When the radiant church's power was at its peak, few forces could match its might. Thus, many people wanted to curry favour with them and went ahead, allying themselves to the radiant church and launching attacks against me.

The consequence of that was me going to their territory and destroying them. If not, maybe more than half of the people would still be alive.

But if we were to look at the recovery of the land, this place was far worse, and not even ten thousand would be enough to see the slightest chance of the site recovering. Unlike the damage I had caused, which would only take a maximum of a thousand years to allow the land to flourish again.

"it's best that we keep moving and leave this place as soon as possible lest we get caught up in a fight," Samantha said in a severe tone as her body tensed up, looking as if it was ready to counterattack any hidden enemies.

"Alright then, but I am heading back into the Demon Continent," I said, unwilling to stay a second longer in this place.

With an amused expression on Samantha's face, she asked, "weren't you just kicked out of there what makes you think that the primordial demon will let you in? Besides, have you forgotten; you can only enter the demon continent once a year during the longest night?"

"That only applies to humans, I remember hearing before that those embraced by darkness are able to see the Demon Continent," I rebutted with hope in my eyes. A strange emotion for a lich to have. No, a strange emotion for any dark beast to have, after all, we are the ones giving despair to the people, what is there to hope for?

Seeing the insistent determination on my skull, Samantha relented and decided to guide me back to the Demon Continent and let me see for myself.

"Alright, then I will bring you there and let you try for yourself". She said before walking off into the distance.

Knowing that I am still not familiar with the new place, I hurriedly went and trailed behind Samantha as she leads the way.

After walking until the sun sets and no end in sight or any signs of life other than the occasional fresh, rotting and decayed corpses lying strewn all over the place. I couldn't help but hold back asking, "Are we lost?"

"No, it is just that with how damaged the land is, everywhere you look is about the same," Samantha said as she looked towards the setting sun before talking again, "we should rest for the night, it is not safe to travel at night".

She took out a thick woollen fabric with a slit in it from her space pouch before getting inside it and snoring.

"Well, I guess I am on guard duty then," I thought, seeing that I don't need sleep, and from what I have heard from Samantha about this place, it would be wise to have a sentry. If not, one might not even know how he died.

With that in mind, I cast a detection alarm spell before looking up at the brightening stars and rising moon while the sun fades off the screen.
