Prologue Part Two

He was placed in prison while awaiting his execution date to be set. More specifically, he was placed on death row.

Despite the threat of death over his head, he was actually a bit relieved to not be thrown in with the other animals. He loved his solitude.

Some say that people need interactions with others, an instinctual habit among normal humans. He long ago discarded the thought that he was a normal human, therefore, choose not to interact with others.

It's not that he hated other people or anything, it was actually the teachings of his parents that shaped his views of people. His parents were horrible people, that weren't ready to have a son. But since they couldn't afford to have an abortion, attempts were made to have a miscarriage.

From drinking or smoking while pregnant, to allowing the father to punch her stomach, there was nothing that they didn't attempt.

Unfortunately for both the kid and the parents, nine months later, he was born. Of course, when any child is born at the hospital, they are required to have a name and documents.

But growing up, his parents, not once, called him by his name. The first time he actually heard his name was when he was getting interrogated by the police, right before his attorney intervened. Nevertheless, his parents, being the sick individuals they were, taught him their values.

They never worked a day in their lives, and chose to con people to get basically anything they wanted. When they were bored, they would find the time to talk to their son.

They taught him that people could be separated into different groups, and based on whatever group they fell into, could be used.

First came the power junkies. People who desperately wanted to be in charge and feel superior to those around them. They were the most gullible as they starved for attention, practically begging for it. There were no lines they wouldn't cross at the chance to gain power.

They could be taken advantage of by using the spotlight against them. The moment that their authority is questioned, they would have to prove themselves.

But they could just as easily be the most dangerous. The moment they saw an opportunity to turn against you to elevate their position, they would take it in a heartbeat.

Next there was the people who wanted to nothing other than a comfortable life. They had reasonably well upbringings. They were taught right from wrong like the rest, and knew that if they wanted something, they would have to work for it.

But they lived generally peaceful lives and were content with relaxing whenever they had the chance. They were a majority of the human beings you would encounter. The moment that you threatened their peace, you could take advantage of them with the promise of leaving them alone should they do a certain act.

Then there was the Negative Nancy's. At some point in life, some injustice was done to them, so from then on, they had a negative outlook towards others. They confided in groups, looking for pity from others, as they always played the victim in any situation. Since they were always clinging to the past, they were always unable to move on to the future.

They were quite easy to take advantage as you gave them what they wanted, pity. Pretending to care for any problem they had, you instantly became their best friend. The issue was that they were the most sociable out of any humans, so once you messed up with one, they would all know about you.

Then, there were the oddballs. Too few in numbers to be in a separate category themselves, but each oddball was different. Some were people pleasers, some didn't care about anything, some just went with the flow of life without having any goals. He actually fell into this category of people.

If he had to define himself, it would be nihilistic. He learned early on in life that there is only one thing assured to everyone, death. Nothing you did really mattered if one day it would all be yanked away from you in a single second. Several if you're not lucky.

One night, his parents said they were going on a trip. He was 15 then and was not an idiot. He knew something was up and mentally prepared for the worst.

They went on a long drive for hours at an end, until they came to a lone gas station in the desert. Exiting the car, his parents told him to go to the bathroom while they got snacks, because they wouldn't be stopping again. He knew they weren't lying, so he went to go to the bathroom and found it somehow in worse conditions than their house.

After managing to find a clean way to use the bathroom, he was shocked to find the car gone. After walking around the gas station to confirm its disappearance, for a moment he naively thought they simply left momentarily for some reason and were coming back.

As the minutes turned to hours, he began to think differently. Coming up to the dirt road, he picked a direction, and started walking.

He continued under the hot sun for three hours until, in the distance, a van approached. Happy that he would find some way to get back to town, he hailed the van, which stopped for him.

The moment it stopped, hands reached out and grabbed him into the van and a gun was pressed to his head. Fearing for his life, he remained quiet, scared to do anything as they bound his hands and legs.

He was placed in the back of the van with other kids who were crying silently, and he immediately understood his situation. Of course, the first people he would encounter would be human traffickers. Throughout his life, even though all the abuse his parents subjugated to him, he'd never felt more depressed than at that moment.
