CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

Jace’s POV

My hands didn’t tremble when I accept the little CD from Mom by sheer will alone. I did waver in my step though and my hand stilled in the air before I pushed my courage and took it from mom’s hands.

It seemed so insignificant. So little. So ordinary.

It felt so weird to think that it held the answers to my life and the face of the love of my life in its hologram back.

“Whe—” I cleared my throat, “When did she—?”

Mom smiled, she didn’t seem sad like before. Now she looked proud. Because of something Ash did. I smiled a little.

The walk to the dvd player seemed so far, like it took forever when in reality it was just a few feet away. I crouched low and pressed play. The title on the front got a smile out of me.

For Jace. Wait, this is gonna be awesome I promise. Not sad.

I didn’t bother going on to the couch to get comfortable. My legs turn to jelly the moment I truly realized that this was from Ash.
