An urgent departure
The following day...
Moriko was preparing to head to Mariko's company when her other phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was an international number from Italy. Her heart raced as she answered the call, knowing that it was her mercenary group's superior on the line.
"Forest speaking," she said, trying to maintain her composure.
"Forest, we have an urgent mission," her superior's voice came through the phone. "It's a high-priority assignment, and we need you back in Italy tonight. We'll be sending the details of your flight in a while."
Moriko's heart sank. She was just in Japan for a week, a vacation to temporarily escape from her dangerous life and spend time with her twin. But the sudden call made it clear that she had to cut short her trip. "I understand," she replied. "Soon as the necessary arrangements are done, I'll get there right away."
