His identity

Rita Anderson is a young lady who discovered that her parents made an arrangement with their friends to marry her to their friends' son. Something which is totally unacceptable by her. To Rita, she will not ruin her happiness for mere politics played by her parents and their friends because she's already in love with someone of a lower class, and she has made up her mind to stand on her ground and defend her love.

Chapter 50

Rita knew she had to tell somebody about what she heard but she didn't quite know who to tell. The issue was a very sensitive one and there was no telling what would happen if the information fell into the wrong hands.

As she thought about it, Camille's name popped in her mind. If there was one person she could trust, it was her. She was also sure of getting good advice from her on how best to handle the case.

Rita picked up her phone, deciding to call the woman whom she could proudly call her friend.

"Hi Camille", Rita said, smiling into the phone.

"Oh, hello dear. How have you been?", she asked.

"I've been good. Please, I need to see you. Are you still in your friend's house", Rita said.

"Oh no, I got back to my house yesterday. Is anything the problem dear?",she asked.

"I'm afraid yes, I need to talk to you about something", Rita said.

"Oh my gosh! Is it Rodrigo?", she croaked.

"No... No, it's not Rodrigo", Rita said.

She couldn't live with it if Camille thought Rodrigo was dead, it would make her sad, knowing there was nothing she could do to bring him back.

"Okay, whatever it is dear I'm all ears", she said.

"I was hoping to see you... I mean, to discuss one on one", Rita said.

"No problem dear, you're free. Please, come over. I've also missed your home made spaghetti", Camille chuckled.

"I promise, when I'm done telling you everything, I'll make some for you", Rita smiled.

"Thank you. I'll be expecting you dear", Camille said before cutting the call.

Rita placed her phone on the table, throwing on some clothes. She took her bag from the rack she hanged it and was prepared to leave when her phone gave a shrill sound, indicating she had a call.

Rita picked up the phone, swiping the screen open. The caller ID showed that it was Theresa calling. Rita gulped, feeling guilty.

"Hello", she sighed.

"Did you really think you wouldn't tell me about your visit to the police station?", Theresa began.

"I know, I'm a bad friend. I got caught up with everything that happened yesterday, I'm sorry", Rita said.

"Rita, I'm your best friend and I think I deserve to know everything that's been going on. That's what friends do", Theresa said.

"I'm sorry... I promise I'll make it up to you, I promise", Rita said.

Theresa remained quiet for a long time. Rita could tell that she was thinking about her words, she hated feeling this way, hated the guilt that overshadowed her. Theresa is her best friend but yet, she still found it hard to tell her everything that's going on.

"Will you be coming to Mateo's birthday party tomorrow?", she asked.

"To be honest, I'm not quite sure. Theresa, you wouldn't really understand everything that's happening right now. I have a lot on my hands that need my whole attention. But I promise, I'll try to be there. Even though I don't stay for the whole event, I'll try to make an appearance", Rita said.

She needed to assure her that she would be coming. It wouldn't do her good if she just told her straight off that she would miss the party. Theresa would never forgive her for that and that was something she desperately wanted to avoid.

"Okay, just be careful. I love you no matter what happens, your happiness is all that matters and you shouldn't trade it for anything else okay", Theresa said.

"Okay, thank you Theresa. I swear, I'll make it up to you", Rita promised.

"I know and now, you owe me", she chuckled.

"Hug Mateo for me. I also owe him tons of gifts too", Rita laughed.

She made her way downstairs, clutching the phone to her ear. She could hear the young child making funny noises in the background and she smiled at the innocence he radiated.

"He's been looking everywhere for you. I had to tell him you went to prepare the plane before he finally stopped nagging", Theresa laughed.

"I really owe him a plane ride, infact the both of you", Rita smiled, climbing into the SUV.

"You bet. Okay, let me leave you now. I'll see you soon, stay safe love", Theresa said.

"And you too dear", Rita smiled before cutting the call.

"Where to ma'am?", Ramirez asked.

"To Camille's house", Rita said.

Ramirez nodded before driving onto the main road. Rita sighed, looking out of the window. Even though some part of her life were okay, there were still many parts that needed light.

"Sorry to cut into your thoughts ma'am but we've been able to trace the strange message you got on your phone", Ramirez said.

"Really? That was fast", Rita said.

She was quite surprised at this. She expected it to take days if not months before they could get anything.

"Yes, we had to treat it as urgent", he said.

"I really appreciate all your efforts. So, what did you find?", Rita said.

She was itching for information, anything at all that could help her unravel the mystery that seemed to be her life.

"The message was sent from a burner phone that we traced from a pick'n'go shop downtown. The person who sold the phone her no idea who the buyer is", he said.

"So that means, the identity of this person is still not known?", Rita asked.

"I'm afraid yes but we're working on finding out who this person is", he said.

"Thank you for all your help, it's really appreciated", Rita said.

She didn't know what she'd have done if these guys weren't in her life. They've saved her more times than she could count and the only reason she was alive was because of their dedication to their job.

"Just doing my job ma'am", he chuckled.

"So... Anything on Rodrigo yet?", she said.

"I'm afraid no ma'am, not yet".

"I really hope he's found", Rita said, a lone tear sliding down her cheeks.

"He'll always find us. That's a promise I know would come true", he said.
